    The Ethos seems good:

    HD6850 grahpic & Blueray writer havent been seen under $1k laptops

    but on the other hand:

    Standard HD Screen & 3.8KG weight are a bit disappointing.

    Anyway, very good value overall

    Have you noticed that, contrary to all my expectations, based on Moore's Law, the imminent introduction of Ivy Bridge, and the continuing strength of the Aussie dollar, the price of Sandy Bridge computers have gone up in the last couple of months?

      I dont think Moore's Law applies to performance cpus anymore. For raw computing power (without considering the graphic core) Ivy only has a 3%-5% advantage over Sandy. Moreover, AMD is basically out of the high-end market at the moment. Sandy's halo wont fade until Ivy's price drops to a competitive range at some point in the future.

      $407.29 is the price without GST i guess.

      for that ram thing, you can easily get an 4G ram(yes 4G not 2G) around $20 marks and unscrew the ram cover then put it in. can be done in 5 mins. i would pay a reasonable price for this "free 2g bonus", but for $100 EXTRA, hell no.

      and reason i negged it because of this pricing misconduct and hilarious price matching excuse,whenas $100 off is the promotion ran by their website for a limited time and i do appreciate the fact that they may try to pass some saving to us, but i see no action taken so far by Rep to deliver such message IMHO. besides i would assume reasonable person would reach conclusion that price match should be applied to original price listed on the website tho. you are more than welcome to neg me if you feel it in another way.

        cheapest on static ice with 2GB RAM is $429 after cash back but you have to pay $478 first.

        ture 2gb is not 100 extra but what ram are they using for the upgrade so i cant say yes i know it a 5 min job but they still charge you for it.

        yeah same model they should price match but i dont see a price match policy guarantee a price match.

    You save nothing from this deal. They increased the price first then give you the discount. For AS5750, I was $399 after cashback 3 weeks ago.
    No Bargains.

      I have to say we did lift up the price for one or two models to minimum the lost, but to be honest our price on static ice still quite competitive.

    this post just highlights what happens when a retailer who has low prices wants to get some free publicity on Ozb, since his prices are(were??) some of the lowest, he can raise the prices a little every now and then and still be 'kind of' competitive!
    ps @olc, you should have raised your prices THEN waited for this "$100 off" promo! or better yet, forget your hokey ram upgrades, laptop prices go down in price not up, so give us your best LOWEST prices!

    I notice Acer gets criticised quite often here for reliability. Is there any non-anecdotal, empirical evidence to back that up?

    I vaguely remember reading Choice on notebook reliabilty. They were all much of a muchness and Acer was mid table: maybe a bit better than mid table.

    If it's the best price available what difference does the marketing strategy matter? The ethics of sellers, re marketing, does not concern me.

    Is there a better price than $399 (548-100-49) for a 4GB RAM 5750-2332G32Mn, or $379 for a 2GB RAM ($20 for you to buy the RAM and install it yourself.)?
