      •

agreed with you on this! The one I posted last year were a lot cheaper than this year!

fyi, Philips Hue Play Sync Box - Its coming from Amazon US, might not be an AU plug. :)

waiting for hue play box to be on sale, currently at 342.82.

    •

Yup it was as low as 327 in the past

    •

Excuse my ignorance but what does this do?

      • +1 vote

You pass your HDMI signals through it and it then syncs with your surround lights to sorta mirror the colours on the screen for an immersive feel.

        Or something like that.

  •

So cheap, I bought a Hue Play last months for 189$ , lol

    •

Buy one from this deal and return this item received as if it was last order if possible. (you can say you taking time to return the item back)

      •

I bought at Kogan, can't return if nothing wrong with it :(((

  •

If honestly speaking i am waiting for LIFX specials

    •

LIFX and Nanoleaf sales 20% at JB HIFI

    •

I'm so disappointed with the lifx light strip's performance from last year's prime deal, it is the only smart device that at times gets disconnected from wifi, at times after being connected alexa/ homeassistant is not able to reach it and the change wifi process is just ridiculous. and so hard finding a physical button for it, using the philips hue button with a huge delay atm. I have 1 still in box that I never used because of it :(

sad to hear,(i missed out on the last year one because of my stupidity) but i can tell that my old hue lightstrip plus (gen 1 non bluetooth one) is working like a champ always) But the stock 3m tape is CRAP, need to re tape/glue it with a quality one

        • +1 vote

like dont get me wrong, when lifx works the colors are amazing and the features are really cool but just the reliability is not as much as I was hoping for. Agreed about hue, it rarely gives issues once its setup, never used their lightstrip though.

          • +1 vote

@relentlessM8: also if you didnt knew I had been able to control both Hue and Lifx at the same time with my HUE DIMMER SWITCH using APPLE HOME KIT (for lifx) and Hue app(for Hue lights). Both works simultaneously, but the thing is for lifx initially have to press the buttons twice (like some sort of homekit connection with hue and lifx talking delay due to wifi i am guessing).
But yes i do agree LIFX is way brighter especially on their 1200 Lumen A60 Bulb

            •

@DisabledUser229346: I'm using home assistant for the integration, I've set it to operate lifx on long press of the dimmer switch (since single press is for the hue bulbs) but I get a lag because of the hue hub to homeassistant refresh interval, will try n tinker to change that later. but thanks for the tip! appreciate it.

              •

@relentlessM8: I have both hue lights (around 70+) and lifx and haven't had issues with lifx strips.
The hue is also flawless (with 3 hubs) but haven't had any issues with the 2x lifx strips I bought using last year's prime deal.
Could your issues be a bad wifi connection given lifx is wifi only?

      •

same here. lifx was very promising but very unreliable. hheck even my $20 aldi downlights have never skipped a beat while lifx, if you ask it for more than a color change an hour it goes offline

  •

Nothing special this year. My wallet is thankful

    •

yea i feel like i wasted my prime trial for this

    •

Last year Catch had a killer sale via KG electronics soon after the prime day, on hue product of white ambiance starter kits (non bluetooth)

  •

I just picked up the Arlec grid connect 5m strip light with music sync from Bunnings $65 (standard price). Haven't set up yet but wanted something for 65" tv. I've got a few of their smart plugs, all works with tuya (connect smart home).

Is there something I am missing by not spending $300+ on the Philips Hue? There are Chinese equivalents for $19 in Amazon but the quality could be rubbish and can catch on fire.

    Cheers

    •

Depending on which hue lightstrip you are talking about you may be missing out the gradient feature.

The only other true competitor to hue sync box coupled with hue gradient light strip is goovee Dreamcolor with Camera which is also expensive but not as expensive as hue

      Have a watch of

      •

ok thanks - I don't need the best nor want to spend a heap so think these smart home connect / arlec devices are probably good enough (got a few globes from HN too). The Bunnings strip has music sync which i think would be alright. Cheers!

  •

FWIW these deals are as good as last year (at least the lightstrip and the Hue Play Extension are). They were this price for BF 2020.

    •

The only thing was last year there was add an echo and you can have 20% off other smart home devices. Ended up getting heaps for 20% off the prime day price I think

      •

Yeah I think you're right about that. Which was great for anyone tied in to the Amazon ecosystem or just starting out.

        •

I bought one and saved a quite a bit getting outdoor lights and the hue plays.

Ended up giving the echo dot as a secret Santa present haha as I'm purely google home

          •

@jasontworld: I'm all-in with Google Home also, so I wasn't able to cash in on the discount. Was still a good deal without the Amazon kit either way.

  •

Anyone knows why it’s hard to find Philips coloured downlights on any retailer or where can I find them?

    https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/p/hue-white-and-color-ambi...

    •

There was a stock shortage for months on the GU10's. Not sure about the other downlights though.

      •

What are the differences (besides the electrical plug) between these two:

        GU10s vs Garnea Downlights

The GU10s can be used for downlights ye?

        • +1 vote

Garnea hard wired plug and a lot brighter
Gu10 are in a gu10 socket and a lot weaker
I have both and use the garneas in the roof cavity and the gu10 in housings for concrete slab ceiling

  • +1 vote

It looks like it is cheaper to buy the Play base kit (1 light for $84.55) + extension ($65.55) (—> together for $150.10) than the 2 pack base kit ($159)

    •

Yea true, or honestly wait for a better deal later on somewhere around $125

  •

The normal Philips smart bulbs (colour) are now the same price as LIFX. Que?

  •

Light strips are the only thing worth it IMO with Amex or egift card methods of purchasing.
