  • Not as low as this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/501895
    But still a good price

    • +1

If it's any consolation, there's 4% cash back on Cameras category. And you can buy Amazon GCs for another 2% cash back on Shopback app. Net $1150 ish including delivery.

Is lower now with new reduction to $1049.

Honestly, youre probably better going for the z50 deal than investing in mft at this point. Although that said, I think ff systems are simply worth pursuiting more than apsc or mft.

    • Don't know about that necessarily. The lens selection for apsc Z Mount is what, 3 first party zooms and a couple cheap primes from 7artisans and the like? Ofc you can use ff glass but then you're further increasing size and weight for no benefit.

My experience as a former f Mount apsc user is that Nikon doesn't care about filling out the apsc lens selection beyond kit and travel zooms, probably to try to tempt you to upgrade.

I don't use M43 but it seems to have one of the best lens selections of all the systems, and at half the size and weight. That might be worth the penalty in image quality to some.

I do agree that ff mirrorless is tempting though, I've been eyeing off the z5 + 24-70 f4 for a while now…

That opinion needs to be qualified with the end use of a camera system. MFT has some genuine benefits for everyone who shoots for fun and even for professional use. It doesn't compete with any of the headline points all FF cameras have, but doesn’t mean it isn’t a terrific platform to use.

The G9 in particular is a fantastic body. I use it in conjunction with my Z6 II for both personal and paid work. As a camera body the Z6 II has nothing over the G9. The sensor performance is is obviously not as good, but is also nowhere near as bad as the naysayers make it sound.

      • I'm curious about your mixed use. But in general I'd say investing into mft only makes sense if you're shooting video, for stills the size of the body and lenses isn't really a concern now that apsc is basically the same size and full frame isn't as massive.

Good price, a very capable camera for both photos and 4k videos, one of the best MFT cameras on the market at the moment. I like their Pixel Shift High-Res Mode (80Mp) which is great for taking landscape shots.
I do own and actively use both FF and MFT systems. Horses for courses.

  • TBH when Sony FF is now around the 2K mark, (A7ii / A7C), seems a hard to justify throwing 1.2K into a MFT body.

    • +4

I kind of agree, although you might think differently if you held a G9 in your hands. I think it’s too expensive for MFT, but it’s still an incredible camera. A grip that really fills your hands. Vert nice build quality. One of the biggest viewfinders, if not the biggest, on a mirrorless camera. Video specs that nearly match the GH5, including 10-bit internal recording. Incredible stabilisation in video and stills. High-res shots straight out of the camera. Up to 60 RAW shots per second using the electronic shutter.

      • +1

Yes it is features packed, in addition: post focus mode, twin storage slots, 4K and 6K photos extraction from videos…

    • +2

The G9 is more than the sum of its parts. As a camera body only there are hardly any better handling cameras out there, and that’s including all the latest FF stuff from the other Japanese makers.

  • Anyone know a good one for shooting video? My friend crapped on the z50 deal

    • +1

This G9 is the best video one in this price bracket. Plenty of reviews for it.

  • I have an EM1, is it better to upgrade to this or EM1 mark 2? they are similar in price. It will be used for taking kids' photos.
The lens I got at the moments are

    Olympus 12-40 F2.8 Pro
    Olympus 75 F1.8

    • Personally I'd take G9, they are both more or less as good as each other, depending on what features are important to you. Here's a detailed comparison https://www.dpreview.com/articles/4945973337/panasonic-lumix…

      • I agree they are really close. EM1.2 feels a lot better in my hands, I thought the G9 was too bulky - but its a preferciancal thing and many people perfer the chunkier G9 feel

A further price drop on this deal, the G9 is now $1049.
