Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus Wi-Fi 256GB - Silver $1189.15 + $8 Delivery at Good Guys

Original Coupon Deal

There have been plenty of great deals posted for the regular Samsung Tab S7 but nothing for the S7 Plus since the Samsung Education store clearance which may never be repeated.

I was able to purchase gift cards today at 7.5% off for another $89.25 savings, but 5% gift cards are generally pretty easy to find at most of the usual places. Cashrewards also paying 8% but who knows if they will pay , especially using gift cards.

  • Unless you need a last min deduction / have price protection wouldn’t it better just to wait for s8 series?

    • +1

Its always better to wait for the next model if your are prepared to wait and prepared to pay higher prices.

I am happy to have a new toy to play with now for a decent price.

    • When is s8 series coming out? Any good features rumoured?

      • +2

No mate. No good features planned. It’s just s7 in a new box.

      • 14.6" of oled goodness.

Your eyes will water at that screen… and at the price

    • This is a great price and I don't want to diminish the effort it finding it but I'm inclined to agree with Jimothy. By all reports they're not far away.

Samsung high end tablets seem to be crushed on almost every criteria when compared to the 2021 iPads except for having an AMOLED screen on the plus version. Plus, they're not Apple. So all they can really compete on is price and I hope they can do that.

You can get cheaper prices for grey imports but for $100 more I'd probably go with this if I was buying today.

        I know all that.

This is the best price for this tablet which is why I posted it.

        • I also understand which I why I said I would probably go with your deal if I was buying this today.

It is a good price and I did not intend to take away from your efforts, so I don't think my comment warranted negging. I just offered my thoughts as someone who has been looking at the tablet a lot recently.

Samsung high end tablets seem to be crushed on almost every criteria.

Would you care to elaborate on the above? Here's my take:

The S7+ has amazing hardware (Apple does too), the S7+ screen is not only OLED but is also sharper than the Apple equivalent, thanks to the higher pixel density. And what defines a tablet but the quality of the screen you are looking at?

The S7+ has a pen that's not just included ($200 extra for Apple's) but is integrated with the tablet and in the optional case. Speaking of the case, it has a removable keyboard - Apple doesn't. While fewer apps are optimised for the large screen, it's much better for productivity and multitasking, than the iPad, and as a laptop replacement. It even has a front-facing camera on the side, like a laptop.

The only thing of note the new iPad Pro has is the M1 chip that makes absolutely no difference in real life use, as Apple is choking it by the iPadOS software in fear that it could cannibalise MacBook sales (and rightly so). That just about makes the iPad Pro an oversized iPhone.

        Plus, they're not Apple.

I see that as an advantage. And, for the record, I use an iPhone and wear an Apple Watch and the only Samsung device I own is an S7.

        • Yes, I also regard 'not Apple' as a big plus and own zero Apple products BUT in the iPad realm 'there isn’t just clear blue water between the new iPad Pro 2021 and every other tablet. There’s an entire ocean.'

          https://www.techradar.com/au/news/new-ipad-pro-2021-vs-samsu…

And that's just looking at the hardware specs of an improved S8, let alone the current S7 range. That analysis doesn't mention the fact that virtually all apps are designed for compatibility with iPad OS while many are not particularly compatible with Android.

For the same price, surely very few people would choose a base S7 or even S8 over an the iPad pro 2021. That's why Samsung have to compete on price.

You're spot on that Samsung do stomp all over Apple when it comes to accessory prices. Think Apple has a $500 keyboard!?!?! Outrageous. But I'm not really an accessory person.

          • @B3: So, besides better app compatibility (which I addressed) and the hype that you seem to have bought into, what are all the ways in which the iPad Pro trumps the S7+?

Techradar is one of the least reputable review sites out there (unfortunately, there are fewer reputable ones than ever, with everyone chasing the advertising dollars) and this review is extremely lazy even by their lax standards. So, by their own admission, they haven't actually tested an iPad Pro and are comparing it "on paper" to a non-existent product with not even so much as a press release. This context makes the below statement even more ridiculous:

Where the Galaxy Tab is an alternative to an ordinary laptop, the 2021 iPad Pro looks to be a good alternative to Apple’s best laptop.

This just doesn't have any factual basis or intellectual rigor behind it.

A lot of hands on reviewers (and Apple fans) who have actually tried the new Pro, unlike the armchair Techradar reviewer, would strongly disagree:

And I didn't even mention the fact that the Galaxy Tab has both FaceID and a fingerprint scanner.

I'm also not an accessories person but I did buy the detachable keyboard book cover for my S7 for $185 delivered last week. At this price, why wouldn't I?

            • +1

@elektron: We could argue all week but this will be my last comment. For the record I own 2 Samsung tablets and zero Apple ones.

Google 'ipad pro 2021 vs samsung galaxy s7+'. I looked at the top 3 results and they all say the same thing.

              https://www.xda-developers.com/ipad-pro-2021-vs-galaxy-tab-s…

'If you want to save money, the Galaxy Tab S7 or the larger Galaxy Tab S7+ is almost certainly the better value, but the iPad Pro has better app support and a higher potential to do real creative work.'

              https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-tab-s7-vs-ipad-pro-202…

'After careful consideration, Samsung’s tablets offer better value, but the iPad Pro (2021) offers a better overall experience'

              https://mynexttablet.com/apple-ipad-pro-2021-vs-galaxy-tab-s…

'But if you do not keep the price point as the base of the verdict, the iPad Pro 2021 is an absolute winner with its more advanced features and specs. Also, iPads offer a better tablet experience than Android.'

That last 'tablet experience' point is repeated again and again by Samsung owners complaining about apps in Android.

'Android Tabs are ignored by App devs and hence unoptimised.'

'Main issue is the software really. Even with better screen S7+ is really on a lost position here because there simply no Pro Apps on Android. Even when you're launching Dex so you're getting much more suitable interface for 12.4 inch screen, most of third-party apps would launch in a 5-6 inch phone scale which is stupid to be honest.'

'Software: it's all true, Android is not optimized for Tablet use. To the point that a group of the apps I want to use only open on portrait mode and fully maximied: Patreon, Tumblr, Duolingo, etc.'

'Only apps by Samsung and Google would run as seamlessly as you would expect. Every other app will have issues with clean UI and functions suited for a tablet.'

Hardware specs are behind the iPad and further hampered by a widespread lack of software support. If you can confine yourself to suitable apps then I'm sure the experience is perfectly fine, just not as good as Apple.

Even the AMOLED screen advantage will become a disadvantage over time. Samsung tablets fall quite quickly in value over time, in part due to the relatively short software support duration, and that decline will be especially acute for OLED screen devices. Check out any 'should i buy a second hand oled' discussion and see what people say. iPads on the other hand hold their value amazingly well.

              • @B3: surprised to see XDA (my impression is they are Android-biased) giving better overall "scores" for the iPad.
