As kindly pointed out by Jaduqimon, here's an alternative to the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 (comparison table below) that again intends to be a more affordable and budget friendly tab. This one is available in configurations with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, but I think going for 8GB/256GB is the best choice. While this doesn't stack with TCB cashback you can save more with the AliExpress Store Credit cashback

Featuring ZUI 16 (Android 14), 11" 90Hz 2560x1600 IPS display with up to 500nits brightness, 6GB or 8GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB UFS 2.2 storage (microSD card support), MediaTek Dimensity 6300 octa-core CPU (slightly higher clocked Helio G100), 7040mAh battery with 20W PD fast charging, Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD, quad-speakers with Dolby Atmos, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, WiFi 2.4GHz/5Ghz, Bluetooth 5.4 and GPS.

Like the Redmi Pad 2 this is good for media streaming thanks to Widevine L1 DRM, light gaming and general usage. This has the advantage of GPS but a smaller battery compared to Redmi. It's also running the CN ROM ZUI which requires Google Services to be enabled (instructions below) and a few things will remain in Chinese after switching to English.

  • Add Bundle: Standard Discount and Color: 8GB 256GB Grey to the cart

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

I just threw this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16647128/redir on the most recent post I could find about this tablet, and then you go and do a new one!

Overall I think it's not quite the tablet I wanted for my uses (mostly Nomad Sculpt with an active useful stylus, really - this is a bit gimped. I have similar functionality with a generic stylus and my Xiaomi pad 5 Pro). But a great media and web tab.

    • Oops, I have the pad Pro 12.7.

  • +1

Bad deal considering the Xiaoxin Pad Pro is also this price

    • Is or was?

But yes Pad Pro for that insane price earlier was a good deal for something bigger and more powerful.

    • Or close enough, about 300 yesterday.

Damn not even UFS 3.1 in 2025? Won't matter to some, but just seems a bit of an odd decision. Cost can't be that much more.
Is this common on cheaper phones too?

    • Yeah my new moto devices don't have UFS 3.1 which was on my Poco F3,mi11i.

      definitely notice slowdowns occasionally

  • Are the ROM on this replaceable…like good ol XDA dev stuff back in the day?

    • +1

MediaTek, which makes the SoC in these, isn't friendly to the dev community and doesn't upload kernel sources etc necessary for custom rom development, iirc.

Thanks. No wonder I couldn't find exact listing of this device in the XDA forums.

Looks like the Tab S9 FE is the way to go.

        • The real reason it's not on xda is that this device is less than a month old. S9 FE was released October 2023.

MediaTek put the release of the kernel on the individual manufacturers, while Qualcomm release it directly. Poco in the past has done it when put under pressure.

Can this be used a secondary monitor?

  • How would this go as a youtube watching pad I need something cheap with a decent sized screen to replace a dying ipad for some grandparents. All they use it for is youtube so I figure its stupid to buy another ipad a cheap android would be fine for that. Is there anything better and cheaper?

    • Better and cheaper!

In the use case you've described, I'd define better as being able to run local apps. I don't expect one of these AliExpress sourced tablets can do that without you setting it up with global firmware, so it depends how you value your time!

  • welcome deal. Displaying AU$210.56

    • That's for the 6Gb/128Gb version, unfortunately.

  • Aussie reviewing it here. It's a good tablet, nothing better at this price range imho. https://youtu.be/nz3xSP6CEA0

    • Review was for the 'Pro' version

      • Oh I see my mistake, thanks. Will show how easy it is to turn on Google Services, Play Store, and interface at least.

  • After the Tab S10+ stuffup last week, bought this with 8gb + 128gb. Thanks.

Lol Samsung fanbois really out and about downvoting this comment on an AliExpress tablet

Honestly it's good to see samsung prices sorta been a bit more cheaper than their usual overpriced stuff..

        Competition is good guys!

  • Nearly cancelled my $150 usd pad pro order because i have the 8gb/128gb as opposed to 256gb recommended by clear in this post.

  • I have been trying to get a proper pen for this device, there are so many options at Ali express, can somebody recommend which one is compatible and reasonably good ?

    • I have the pad Pro, which works with the "Lenovo pad pen plus". It's Bluetooth, usb-c charging (not wireless), and single button. Magnetic attach to two specific places and orientations - on the back parallel near one long edge, on one long edge itself). That single button doesn't seem to be usable by any app other than the bundled Lenovo notes apps, or as some OS shortcuts (eg: can configure the OS to have it send a media player "skip track" event to your media player. But can't set up Nomad Sculpt to switch between add and remove mode for 3d sculpting in the Nomad Sculpt settings….. I wonder if I can set Nomad Sculpt to use "skip track" as an event….?)
