Shipping and handling costs will be applied, which is typically between $15 to $20

  • I just ordered a pair (Astro Boy :P) and my shipping and handling was $12.63 including the mandatory insurance they put on the post. I think $12.63 is pretty cheap for prescription glasses.

  • iIs the prescribed lens included?

    • Yes! I do not understand their business model at all.

Once you realize you can get high quality glasses for 20% of what they cost in a shop, they must get some repeat business. I bought a pair after I liked my free pair.

      • Probably word of mouth advertising. I'm guessing they're making a (minor) loss on free lenses.

Also i doubt all of the ~$15 is really postage, probably some revenue in there too.

      • I bought 2 pairs in the past. On close inspection, "i personally fell" they don't look genuine or they might be factory rejects!
        * converse- does not sit properly because the arms aren't even.(since it not a metal frame, no way to twist the frame without breaking)
        * joseph marc - arms don't look identical

  • does the "shiplove" code work with this promotion for free shipping?

    • +1

Nope, it cancelled out the free glasses coupon

    • Nope - applying it undoes the FIRSTPAIRFREE code, and vice versa

  • I've ordered one. Thanks OP for the deal.

  • thanks OP. got one.

  • can i just order the frame with "plain glass" (i have good eyes:)

    • I'm fairly sure if you just set your lens strength to 0.0 this would work. Not sure if .25 or -.25 is the minimum or if it's 0.

      Hipster alert.

actually i have one pair bought from overseas. the good looking young latino girl said i looked very good wearing the glasses and the old bold italian guy said i looked like a gay. lol

Don't expect to use these for more than 1 year

The lense are plastic and scratch very easily.
    Good as a backup pair.

    • Depends if you get them to add the coatings. I have a cheap pair of glasses for 2 years now ( cost me $13 inc delivery).

Also, if this was only posted yesterday. sigh. Bought 4 pairs from goggles4u.

aren't all common glasses lenses plastic??

They're better than the basic lenses you get from Specsavers as these have free multicoat included.

  • I thought free glasses was a permanent thing for first time customers? Or are these design glasses different to the standard ones they give away when you're a first time customer?

    • I would imagine this is the same as the give-away that happens every 1-3 months, the OP just dressed it up a bit.

      • Haha thanks! ^_^

  • Good deal - bought one as a spare.
Express postage and handling came to $19.11

    should have gone to specsavers

  • +1

This may sound silly, but how does one get a prescription? Do I just walk into specsavers and ask for one?

    • nvm

    • Honestly, it is a bit silly ;p Just like other prescription, you have ro go to a doctor. But you guessed it right.. Go to specsavers/other optic shops (optometris usually stand by there on certain hours) or optomerist (obviously) and ask to have your eyes checked. You have to pay for this though, which usually covered by insurance (once evey 2 years at least)

    • Make an appointment online then yeah go to it and that's it. It shouldn't cost anything aswell like other people said.

  • everyone with a medicare card is entitled to a free sight test every 24 months and most health funds have a no gap on specs every 12 months, just go into specsavers for a free sight test

  • I was going to post this 2 days ago but Ozbargain did a oops blah blah server is down when i hit submit and pressing back cleared all entered information, but if anyone wants a $50 Off VOUCHER for Specsavers they can PM me and pick it up on their way to Victoria Gardens, the voucher ends on the 14th
Also I think you can use alcohol to remove the ballpoint and write what ever you want :) woolies had 1L 99.9% pure ethanol at some point for $4 which has been spiked of course so you can't drink it without some side effect, not too sure how effective it is though.

Oh and I ordered 2 pairs, one to my address and another to my mums :)

  • Thanks OP, just ordered a pair, $16.11 for delivery and insurance.

Funny, 5 mins after I placed the order, my credit card company called me up asking if I placed the order… hope there's nothing fishy with this website.

    • It's not bad actually but you might have to wait maybe for a month to get it.

  • most of the nice frames are stated coupons not eligible! any other way to get thru tht ;)

    • Yeah, any way to get free glasses with coupon not eligible?

  • Are there any low priced shops in Australia people use to claim back private health care?

** I called these guys - they are have Medibank on file but you have to ask for a custom receipt which will include the provider numbers. Not relevant to this deal unless you get extra's tacked on.

  • Third_gear - This isn't true. Once you make your purchase online you can go straight to your account and see a breakdown of item#'s and provider codes which is what you need for Medibank etc. The phone operators don't seem to know this and I've been given the wring advice in the past only to find out how easy it is.

You do NOT need to use Facebook: http://www.clearlycontacts.com.au/firstpairfree

  • Glasses/Lenses cost nothing to make. The same pair that you see for $200 in the big chains cost as little as $15-20 to make. Nothing but peanuts for them.

  • Coupon Code was not applied

    :(

  • hmm same. Coupon Code was not applied. I also made sure it was one of the non-designer pair too. Ozbargained?

    • Works for me and I got designer ones that cost $98 O_O

  • Thanks for sharing. It'll be handy to have a second pair.

  • Nice deal. However, my prescription requires the $99 lens upgrade, so rather not to waste that on crappy frames.

But still $99 for 1.67 index lenses is cheap (probably Korean or Chinese lenses). The lenses alone are usually $200 to $300 in retail shops (though for that price you are getting Japanese lenses).

  • Does it include prescription 3D glasses?

  • i think it has expired…

    • Still works. I just bought a pair.

      • Thanks Vague, tried again and it works!

I did get "The coupon code has been expired" message yesterday.
