Yes-sir-eee, here come the new models in March!

    • +1

      Yipeee!!

    • +7

i hope they do a new case design. its long overdue

      • +2

maybe they could add blu-ray and a usb 3 port while they're at it or am I dreaming of unicorns?

        • Apple seem to want to move away from optical media. So I wouldn't be surprised that they'll remove it off the iMacs and Macbook Pros. They've done it with the Mac Minis and somewhat with their other macbook line (Air). Those drives take up a lot of space, so I wouldn't be surprised with such a move.

Macbook Pro was refreshed only October last year… pretty early refresh if that's the case.

    • +4

if I remember it right, that refresh was just a minor cpu spec bump.

      • Unlikely. http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Pro

        • ? I was talking about last October's refresh, not the upcoming update.

        • Sorry meant for the previous poster. I'm saying a updated Macbook is still a few months off.

  • 7PM - 8PM AEDT Time ONLY! wo what will the time be in Adelaide?

    • DSE are on A.E.S.T.
so click here for the current time in Sydney, N.S.W.
      http://swissinfo.net/cgi/worldtime/clock.pl?Sydney,Australia
or add 30 minutes to Australian Central Standard Summer Time when it is 18:30 in Adelaide…

(or… when the Big Hand and the Little Hand point to 6) :+)

      • +1

I think you mean AEDT for Sydney, D is for daylight savings. AEST would be for queensland till daylight saving finishes, then its the rest of the eastern states.

      1987?

    • 6:30pm

  • very good price, but they may likely be getting some new models in. either way awesome price!

  • Will the new models be that big of a difference? Looking at getting a mac pro for location photography work. wonder if 13" will be big enough

    • -2

There are rumours of a new design soon if that helps.

      • I'd be pretty annoyed if a better looking Mac Pro came out shortly after buying this one. I feel like the current Mac Pro design/resolution is pretty dated now so I'll probably wait it out

Still a good deal for this though

        • Yeah, I'd definitely wait it out.

    • There will probably be a resolution bump for the 13inch. They are still at 1280x800, while the Airs 13 inch are 1400x900 (or something like it, can't remember the exact number now)

$1049 ish for those with staff discount, definately will try to get one!

    • +1

      $1,063.24 actually

  • I know nothing about Apple but my girlfriend is a Mac chick. She has had her current laptop for about 2 years and is ready for an upgrade.

Should I buy this or wait for the next one? Just curious if the savings are substantial enough to warrant this purchase now.

    • Should't wait because Apple never discounts on new products or you will have to wait next year to get a discount on new models

    • As a general rule, you can quite easily get 10% off Macs either through 1) simply asking, or 2) regular 10% off sales (especially DSE). Its up to you whether waiting for a newer model (and paying around ~$1250ish for it) is worth it.

There's quite a possibility that the newer models (rumoured to be due April-May) may have slight/major redesign (as the current design dates back to October 2008), but will almost-certainly come with Ivy Bridge processors (and better integrated graphics to boot). Its also possible a display upgrade is on the horizon, but who really knows besides Apple? Up to you :)

      • Thanks for the replies. Will try to lock one in tonight.

      "Should I buy this"

      No.

      She should.

      • loL!!

    disposable

  • $300 applecare - that's only 30% of the product price! Great deal, especially since slave labour is getting expensive these days.

  • and less 3% if you are registered via Buckscoop :+)

    • -1

3.5% if you are with moneybackco ^-^

  • I am only $30 short of the amount required for this laptop in my bank account. But I transferred another grand into that account but that amount will only be there in the morning..

    So wat do?

  • -2

They were giving the following when you buy before this 1 hour sale:

Sennheiser Stereo Headphones, SanDisk 16GB USB Flash Drive, and $100 iTunes Card valued at $179 when you purchase a Mac!

So not really much of a deal

    • +1

I beg to differ, this is a much better deal than the $179. The 20% discount will save you $279.80 if you can score one later.

  • where's this?

  • anyone know of cheaper places to get office mac?

    • -1

      ebay

    • +2

ask a student/teacher to get it for you.

otherwise go without office if you can - replace Word with Pages, and Powerpoint with Keynote.

      • Yes, depending on how big an Office user you are you could substitute it with iWork. 30-day trial available here: http://www.apple.com/iwork/download-trial/

Individual apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) are $20.99 each on the Mac App Store, and are particularly good value if you use a discounted (up to 50% off) iTunes card to purchase them.

ripping full version office 2011 for mac torrent on vuze…it is ozbargain after all…

      • +1

Uh no… Ozbargain does not condone piracy.

I use the free Open office in Mac all the time.

It is still using the old "Office 97" feel interface which I like very much.

For light use it is good enough. It also output to all sorts of MS format that people work with you can open.

  • Sennheiser Stereo Headphones, SanDisk 16GB USB Flash Drive, and $100 iTunes Card valued at $179 when you purchase a Mac!

    • that doesnt apply with the 20% deal though

      • +1

        aww man!!

  • And it's on sale.

  • and surprise surprise, it is still available, not quite the best seller that the EOS 550D was last week…

  • a good price !

I was looking to get a laptop this year, and the macbook pro was my preferred option.

i liked the mac air, but the extra power and connections of the mbpro gave it the edge….

    Just ordered one….

  • +1

It is still going. I think someone forgot to check the time and quantity.

Anyways I grabbed one. I thought I was going to miss out because I could see it on my phone but I couldn't order. I just got home now. yay go me. ^_^

  • Site will bomb out again for sure!

  • showing 1400 now
