  • Nice, I’m tempted but my canvas one is still holding up, if a little frayed.

    • +1

I've got a canvas one too and mine's a tiny bit frayed but holding up too. Like another commenter I think if I'd gotten leather it would have deformed a lot faster. The big key ring likes to rub up and down the strap so I reckon it would wreck the leather.

      • +1

The crazy horse one is perfect for that, it looks amazing as it gets scratched and damaged.

        • I've had the standard leather one since 2017 (this Saffiano is like a limited range), and while it's discoloured and scratched, it's still functional and am not afraid of it breaking.

  • +6

I have had the leather and the cheaper silicone one subsequently, go for the silicone/rubber one. Holds up to wear and tear much much better.

It doesn't deform and doesn't show wear and tear signs after years of use.

    • My mate who had a leather one said the same, but this leather looks different. Canvas lasts a while as well.

    • +1

      Thanks.
Went for the cheaper silicone/rubber one in midnight blue.

  • They were cheaper earlier today

    • +1

Yeah - mentioned it in the post. These are different types though?

      • They say this leather is like a fine wine and gets better over time

        • +1

Could say the same about men 😎

      • +2

Sorry didn't mean to be the Captain Obvious of the day.

    • -1

Different finish but. I prefer the look of the Crazy Horse leather myself to the ones from earlier on.

  • Got black and gold cos blue and gold sold out 🤣

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

how does that work with my car key which is very thick as it is a luxury car

    • +6

      High yield investment?

      • +6

        Honda with gold badges.

      • crypto, telsa and realestate

      • 2008 Lexus RX. Upmarket luxury high-end car. Motorised windows, low fuel warning, and a lot of other luxury features.

    • +2

I just hook my car keys up to the loop at the end of the orbit key.

    • +1

You put it on the D ring. Or you can get an extension post

    • +11

get cheaper car with thinner car key?

  • Thx wanted to get midnight blue but sold out so grabbed the green one, look just as good!

    • +1

I always liked the look of a deep green leather.

  • +13

Are these really worth it? Seems like a $2 piece of rubber from China and heavily unmarked in price

    • +4

Well if you find something similar for $2 be sure to post it here for people to see.

      • +3

Plenty of options on ebay under $9 that look very similar.

      • If you post it, people will just complain about it being a cheap Chinese copy of this…

        • I have the same question, this item is $15:https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/383740371794

There are cheaper kinds but longer shipping

    • +1

I have a much cheaper one from ebay. Still leather. Has lasted years now

    • +4

Just so pointless to me. Even if $50 worth of material why would this be better than an old traditional key ring for convenience and loss prevention. I see these slipping from my pocket

      • +2

Protects your $200 armani pant pockets from getting holes? (Are armani still fancy, I don't know fashion…)

      • Keys destroy pockets and phones

      • +3

It can sit better in your pocket than a traditional key ring. It can be quieter. To me that's a couple of big pluses. Although I don't have one of these, just something similar.

If this is going to slip from your pocket, I can't see how a 'traditional' keyring won't and you probably should be looking at a better option anyway. Like not keeping your keys in your pocket. Or wearing a proper pair of pants.

It has its use cases. It works for some people and situations, but not others. You buy the right tool for the job, whatever it is.

        • I just realised the quieter part would mean I'm going to accidentally lose/drop it and not notice, and I'm most likely to spend 10times longer looking for it when i misplace it

          • +1

@Baghern: Get a Chipolo (or something) tracker

            • +1

@kerfuffle: Or they could just not buy a key holder and a tracking device that they now require because of it …

              • +1

@Diji1: Or they could not lose their keys all the time?

  • I still prefer my Keysmart.

    • ^ this.

Manage to grab the Pro version Red colour (half way during the flash sale an hour ago) for $55, White was sold at $47.

Comes with build in rechargeable light, bottle opener, hold 8 keys, bluetooth key/phone finder with sound.

  • +2

My Lv key holder been serving me for almost a decade.

  • +9

Overpriced junk, true Ozbargainers use key rings made from office paperclips.

  • +1

I’ll wait for the Corinthian leather version.

  • Dang missed out again. Need the one in black…

  • -1

Forgive me but, how is this much different to $15: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/383740371794

    • +1

      Material quality.

    • I’m using this right now, as a try first before committing to orbitkey. It does the job 90% right, but if you were after a quality material per what the poster said, then the eBay special reflects the price for fake leather.

    • Probably identical, many products are white labelled with brand names that are sold at wildly differing prices.

    • I bought the same from AliExpress for for ~$8.00 Including shipping and GST, it took about a month to get in Aus, but I gotta say, it's OK, like RudedongandDweebs mentioned it does 90% of the job and the material is relatively good. Good choice if you want to test before committing to the original orbitkey.

  • Have a leather one from their original Kickstarter (2013). The leather is now quite soft and doesn't hold shape very well anymore, so the edge is always curling and getting stuck under the lip of the bottle opener that I got with it.

Do the newer versions have better longer term shape retention?

    • You've done well to have it for so long! I've only had the newer version for the last year or so and it's still going strong.
Bit too soon for me to say if mine will out live yours.

    • newer ones have padding and the d ring doesn’t cook the leather as much as the older one
new multi tool is amazing as well compared to the old bottle opener….use it for all the packages arriving in the mail from ozbargain deals

my original kickstarter one lasted till 2019 and I’ve had a crazy horse one for 2 years now which still looks excellent today

  • Looked at this and other version, like the pocket knife one… all seem awesome…

Then I realised I rely the clanging of my keys when i misplace or drop them….

  • I managed to get a canvas one few years back for 23ish don't think it's made anymore, 50-60 dollars is abit pricey for what they are.

  • Few ozbgainers are part of orbitkey? Always gets upvoted here

    • No; I just think it's a good price (as someone who has one).

Associated people with Orbitkey can't upvote on posts

  • Had this in my cart, about to click buy when I realised I rarely even bring my keys out anymore. Digital locks and wifi garage door. No need to spend another 50 on prime (bankruptcy) day.

    • stonks

  • I've had mine for 5 years. Still going strong but I bought one more yesterday. I love my orbitkey.

  • +1

Yeah these look nice I guess but I just keep my keys on a cheap carabiner clip and hang them from my pants so everyone knows I'm a real man

My friend got one with a gps tracker in it though, so when he lost his keys (like a real man) he was able to look up their last location and pinpoint it with the tracker

    Pretty manly
