[Trade in] Samsung Galaxy S21 128GB + Galaxy Watch3 + 12M $65/M XL 180GB 5G Plan + $500 Bonus: $1328 - Trade-in Value @ Telstra

142

Been hanging out for the JB deal but felt this was better as long as you have an eligible trade-in. Similar to this deal but now purchased outright and with $500 trade-in bonus.

Item Price Discount
Samsung Galaxy S21 128GB $1248
12 months $65 plan $780
Samsung Galaxy Watch3 $0
"Add to plan" bonus $200
Trade-in bonus $500
Subtotal $1328

Find your eligible trade-in model and value and subtract from subtotal to get the final minimum price. (Thanks to webtherapist.)

Trade-in is performed after you have signed up, paid $1113 upfront, and created an account with Telstra.

Accounting for the min Trade in value of $50 and Shopback of $55 (which I'm currently disputing as they claimed I was ineligible) and it brings it down to ~$50 more than the free S21 JB deal but with the Galaxy Watch 3 included.
You may also be able to cancel the plan early and keep some cash once the Cashback credit comes through, if the credit is entirely applied to the phone.

Please be nice. Long time lurker first time poster.

Did you take into consideration the phone cost as well? Just the plan is $65 p/m

    • Yeah I'm confused how it's 65

  • +1

Think you forgot the phone cost OP

  • +1

    $108.66 a month…

  • I think the OP is right but hasn't explained it properly.

    Phone cost is $1048
Cost of plan is 780. 65 a month for XL.
Trade in old phone nets you 500 credit.

    1048+780-500=1328 over 12 months.

It does require you to trade in your existing phone which may not be good value for everybody.
Edit: looks like the trade in is actually 500 extra credit on top of the normal value of the phone. So could be more than the 500 i listed above.

    • Depends on which phone you trade in…

  • +2

I did the maths on this for trading in my S9+.

    I worked out it as

    1048 for 128gb model.
    -500 trade in
    -50 for value of S9+
-200 for adding it to a plan

Phone cost is $298 now which is $24.83 per month for 12 months.

I added that to the 55 pm (I know it doesnt have 5G but I find 4G fast enough)

Comes to $80 per month or $958 for the year. Not bad for the cost of a years worth of mobile access, the s21 and the Watch3.

Unless I have got my maths wrong?

    • Nice. 5G was key for me (although now I'm wondering why).

    • Actually, I think you've double counted the discount. Phone is 1248 - 200. Not 1048 minus 200

      • I think the price is 1048 as you can check out at 1048 without any plan.

        • That might just be a loophole to get $200 off without taking a plan. I think that $200 credit is applied upfront you won't get it again later but might be worth a try…

          • @Bugishere: I think you’re right mate; the price remains at $1048 even after you’ve added the phone and plan to your cart. And it says ‘offer applied’. So as per Telstra, the ‘cost’ of the phone is $1248.

    • you have to sign up with plan + phone FIRST though, then log into account to be eligible with trade-in to get the bonus, it is very good value but unless you are going to stick with them for 12-24 months, need read the nitty gritty again and again first in case of tricky trap :)

  • So many hoops to jump thru…

  • Worth it if it comes with a free watch

  • I can't seem to fit in enough characters to get the phone cost in there too.

Happy for anyone to recommend a better title within the limits.

    Mod: Formatted for table

  • you need to sign up a S21 series phone + Upfront plan FIRST, then log in and do the trade-in, tricky Telstra :). 128GB S21 out of stock, also, you can go with S21+ or S21 Ultra as well

this promo only good for those who: want to stick with Telstra + want the Watch. otherwise it is still easier to just go along with Samsung $400 trade-in bonus + $100 voucher + $50 sign up newsletter voucher :)

  • since the trade in bonus finishes on 30th June, you better sign up in store for S21 series phone + Upfront plan (does that mean you have to pay one month ahead?) FIRST, then log in and do the trade in ASAP

  • Trading my s10e it comes down to $1153 for 12m including the plan and a watch 3. So a free plan with a free watch 3 for giving away my old s10e. NICE 👌👌

    • how do you work out the plan to be free, as its not including the cost of the phone in the plan, or did i miss something

      • Phone cost after the trade in, bonus and discount:
        $1248-$175-$500-$200=$373
        And the cost of the plan 12 × $65 = $780
So the total amount you pay in 12 months will be
$373 + $780 = $1153. So you are paying $1153 in 12months for the plan, watch and the phone. Phone and watch itself with of course their overpriced RRP is $1249+$799.

        • +1

The watch is the LTE model, so ignoring the $799 RRP it would be worth about $500

  • +1

Just a reminder the Watch 3 is almost certain a EOL product. Next version is running on a different OS. From previous experience of how Samsung support EOL products, it doesn't look good…..

Also don't border about the RRP of the watch, Going rate is half (and sometime less than half) of RRP.

  • 12*65 how can it be Min. Cost $1327.96 and it is after trade in?I have no idea what this post is what the OP trying to say?

    • +2

Should you really neg something that you dont understand?

Some people have worked out the maths above.

  • Seems to be just a plan not a phone included?

    • This thing has two components.. The price of the phone minus applicable discounts such as $200 for taking up a plan and $500 + trade in value (in my case for an S9+ its $550).

So for example the S21 is listed as $1248.

Then apply minus $200 for attaching a plan
Then apply minus $550 for trading in a Samsung s9+

Phone now costs $498 or $41.50 over twelve months.

Then attach a $65 plan for 12 months, total monthly cost is $106.5 or over 12 months its $1278.

So you are paying $1278 for a phone valued at $1248 and a Samsung Watch3 (I was in store and they it was an LTE version) and 12 months of calls and data.

      Not too shabby.

      • I went into Telstra shop, and they said there was no discounts on the phone

        • Did you click the link for this deal and see that there are actual discounts being applied and its advertised as such on the Telstra website?

Were you not aware of this prior to going into the shop?

  • I have the good guys plan 6 months left on contract but it says I can change the plan without any fees.
Does anyone know if I can change it to the upfront payment to get the $700 off?

Thinking of trading in my note10+ at $325
Which brings it to total discount of $1025
for the s21 ultra 256 which I will get the watch3 which is apparently worth $799
I will also submit application for price match.

Just need help as I spent two day on the stupid app online chat thing and they are wasting my time.

    • watch3 which is apparently worth $799

      More like $400 mate🤣😂😂

      • Where can I get it for $400

  • If anyone's interested, I contacted Telstra today and asked if the deal was taken up today, but Kingfisher didn't assess the trade-in phone until after June 30, would the $500 train bonus still apply?

    Their response:

The offer is applicable If opted before 30 June only. If the assessment takes longer than that, then this offer might not be eligible for you.

    • Depend on the rep you chat with. In my case the rep response as long as I lodged the trade up before the end date I am legit to get $500 bonus credit for the trade in. Also keep the transcript to refer the claim later. Hope it help!

      • Thanks. I tried again and got the same response you received.

  • Hi guys,
I'm new to Telstra and want to get this deal.
I went to Telstra store this afternoon and was advised that the listed device for trade-in had to be planned with Telstra before.
I cannot use any phone that was bought at JB HiFi or The Good Guys or something like that. Is that true according to their T&Cs?

    • Logically I think that response is wrong. As long as the device you want to trade in is not leasing or meant that it is pay off. It must be in the list phone that the kingfisher company list in the telstra app when you log in the telstra app through your new service number, croll down to find the trade in. Choice the phone , option listed and declare its condition then you will get the quote, accept the offer the fill you details, final you get the code to confirm the trade offer. Legit you should lodge the trade in before 30 June to get extra $500 bonus credit. I have chat with a telstra rep if I lodged the trade in and got the code before 30 June but the process is likely finished after 30 June, will I legit to get $500 bonus credit of the promotion. He response YES, as long as I lodged the trade in before 30 June. I requested the transcript to refer for the claim later. You could do the same ask for the telstra rep first then save the transcript.

      • Thanks for your advice.
I'll come back with the result 😀

  • How does this compare to the Samsung trade in deal?

I'm thinking high level the Samsung deal might be a better option. Flexibility being you can sign up for a Telstra plan on the side with jb or good guys, take their giftcard and sell for cash?

The other terms and conditions are comparable on the net. With this case an additional watch as exception.

  • +1

Just btw…. the Trade-in credits $500 and $50 actually came through as a refund straight onto my card. 😃 so should be able to cancel the plan at a later stage if you wanted to. They did also deduct the equivalent in telstra rewards points I'd earned from my internet plan, which I thought was unfair but I suppose will come back as I pay the future bills.

    • Good news. I do not receive the return package to start to post but I finished the quote, accepted trade in offer and get reference number for it. More over I get in chat with a telstra expert and secure the extra $500 bonus as long as I lodged the trade in before 30 June even though the process will be finished after that day. Hope all go smoothly in my case.

      • they don't actually send you a return package in the email as they suggest. you should get an email with a barcode to scan at the post office and they'll pack and label it for you. I got the email within 24 hours.

        • Thanks, yes I have just received that email, but in my case they name my return phone in wrong colour. I am trying to contact them to fixed.

  • When you do the quote do they add the bonus value in the quote ? I was offered $175 but doesnot mention the bonus trade in value.

    • No. the bonus will be added separately once the original amount is credited

      • +1

        Thanks.

      • Also did you do the trade in first and got the plan?

        • Think you have to sign up first for the plan first then you get yourself assessed for trade in separately

  • JB hifi have there S21 deals going again picked up S21 Ultra 256g for $99.00 a month with $599 down one year contract.
    S21 was $0 dollars down.
    S21+ was $200.00
    S21 Ultra $500.00
For the 128g add an extra $100 to upgrade to 256g.
It been holding out for months for this deal again.

    • Telstra say i picked the 256gb Ultra
      becomes
      $1244 Phone
      $780 Plan 180gb
-$300 Watch - If i can sell it for this much
      -$55 Shopback
      = $1,669 before trading in a phone

      JB
      $599 phone 256gb Ultra
      $1,188 PLan 150gb
      =$1,787

      Anything i'm missing?

      • The trade in being worth $500+ is significant. Also with the telstra plan you can likely ditch the plan after month 3.

        • really? how does that work?

          • @phynicle: The trade in credit was put straight back onto my credit card and the phone plan is month to month. so once the credit is received should be able to cancel the plan (I've not tried to but can't see why I couldn't)
why do you see the phone at $1,244? it's $1,744 from what I can see

            • @Bugishere: i assumed the $500 credit into that price.

              • @phynicle: so it's 1669 less the actual trade in value…pretty much spot on. and the last difference being the potential to opt out of the contract early which I understand isn't an option at JB

    • Can you send the deal link please?
I can't find it on JB HiFi website.
      Thanks.

      • that JB deal was from couple months back unfortunately

        • it's still on but not available in lockdown areas unfortunately.

          • @chid: Oh really!
I'm just being lazy, but is it only available for new customers?

I'm currently with jb/good guys plan

            • @phynicle: Damn, no go for me, I'm currently under the good guys deal unfortunately with 30 days to go and still need to port out if I wanted the $599 jb offer

      • I went in and asked at JB it was only last Thursday when i got new s21 ultra.
They don't seem to be listing them online.

  • Has anybody received their watches yet? Mine says Shipped on 29/06/2021 12:43 but I haven't received anything yet.

    • same. no tracking ID is so last century

      • I'm starting to think these things don't ship out of an Australian warehouse.

      • Have you received yours yet?

        • nope. you?

          • @Bugishere: nothing, I suspect it ships from Indonesia as that is where the Samsung Redemption website is hosted. I'm assuming cuts in international arrivals has also cut the arrival of cargo internationally

    • Did anyone received there watch yet?

      • I emailed them and got this response:
Your gift is currently going through our dispatch process. It means that your gift watch is on its way to Star Track from one of our international warehouses and this process can take at least 60 days.

As of now, there’s no available Tracking Number yet since it's still in our dispatch process. Once the parcel was successfully handed over to Star Track, that’s the time you will receive an email from them with your Tracking Number, as well as the option to “Re-Direct” if required. Rest assured, your gift has already been processed and everything is progressing as expected.

      • Mine just got delivered, no tracking information was emailed to me though.

  • Did anyone have success with a price match claim on this?

  • Team, is there a link to redeem the watch? I am not sure if the watch was automatically sent?

  • Did anyone get a notification from Auspost saying a parcel has been sent by DHL SUPPLY CHAIN AUST? no idea what else it could be hence my only thought is it could be the watch.

  • that was a false alarm but mine did arrive today in a startrack parcel

  • Hoping somone can help me out? I did this deal with telstra and due to there not being phones in store had to do it online,
where there was almost no info on the deal and what I had to do to claim everything and no info on the trade stuff after clicking
the link on their page! After signing up I was told by instore staff that I'd get something to send my phone back with for the trade dead,
that didn't happen so I called the support number and they said i'd have to lodge it online (this now being after 30/6) so I did.
Now my phone has been traded with no extra 500 so I called to explain and they are trying to tell me it was never a deal and they
    have no rercord of this!!
Did somone get a screen shot or other info on this deal so I can take it further?

    • The credit shows up on your a/c on your second bill. Atleast that is what i am hoping for. I had the same issue as i didnot receive any email or a satchet to return my device. With the help of telstra chat they opened a case and finally received the trade in info only after 30th.

  • Got the watch, has anyone got the trade in credit or even any communication around it yet?
