Buying a gift card with a gift card is called inception

    • Did u try before?? I just wonder that's not work.

      • +21

No he didn't try it. Because it's your idea. Your idea. Your idea.

        • They won't let you buy a GC with a GC. I had 2 $50 that I wanted to combine and offered to buy a new one.

          • +1

            @abs898: no split payment

          • +3

@abs898: I bought a 'him' (the card network) GC by using a Coles GC I bought from cash rewards last week.

            • @humperdoo: Wow that usually doesn't work… I tried using gift cards and the self serve checkout prompted a staff member to come by and basically say you can't use gift cards to buy gift cards, and the screen told them to remove the item from the basket and to send me to the front desk.

              • @jace88: It does work if you pay with Coles Master gift card. It would be the same as if you paid with a credit/debit card.

    • +8

      *giftception

    • +1

Some would say, gift that keep giving?

      • Ulti teens for those consumables 👌👌

    • Recursive?

  • +7

Time to use $250 Coles prepaid cards to purchase these ones.

    • -1

These are instore Only, I will wait for TCN cards to use my 250 coles.

    • +6

I plan to…but the checkout lady as coles balaclava is soooo obsessive..” you can’t use gift cards to buy gift cards she screams” every time…despite the coles MasterCard or king just fine . Takes the job tooo seriously.

      • +2

Just change to another checkout or another store then. Not worth spending time to argue with her.

      • +5

Some staffs are confident with no reason.
Remember one time in Masters (closed down), I was doing split payment (Woolworth gift cards), the lady went crazy, yelling at me like I was stealing.
After 10 minutes, she finally realized that’s called split payment…

        • +10

          I can't imagine being such a shill.

If they aren't being a broden and aren't causing problems let people have a small victory for gods sake.

We all spend our lives getting screwed by these companies regardless.

      • +4

        Little people with little lives.

      • in fact it is different T&C but reason with these stupid staff will get nowhere.

T&C of Coles GC is different with Coles MC, Coles MC T&C said you can buy anything in store. But to these staff, they can't differentiate it, they are just too dumb to understand. They just see the word "Gift card" printed but failed to understand what is T&C for.

Arguing with these idiots will get nowhere.

  • +2

Perfect way to spend the coles mastercard and get 17.5% off

    • -1

I thought you can't buy gift cards using gift cards? Or are coles mastercard exempted from that rule? Thanks

      • Well they work to buy more mastercards so i assume they clasify as a mastercard not a gift card.

      • +3

They work but one staff are anal and won’t let u use them so use self checkout or if at a cashier. Don’t flash the card around and swipe it at the last minute maybe blocking the front of the card so they assume it’s a standard card.

        • +3

I place my AMEX in front of it.

      • in fact it is different T&C but reason with these stupid staff will get nowhere.

    • +1

Haha could you actually use them to buy more mastercards?!

      • yep!

        • +1

Damn, should have tried that, ended up with piles of these mastercards with no idea how to spend them as I got caught up in the hype.

          • @cc23: Do not worry, there are many ways to spend them.

          • @cc23: Easy points or way to meet the creditcard spend limits within x days to claim x ff points..

Just recoup via Paypal if you have no need to horde them.

    • +3

      Not 17.5%, more 16.75%.

    • How is it 17.5%?

      • +5

Presumably thinking because 1 + 1 = 2, then 7.5% off plus 10% off must be 7.5% + 10% = 17.5% off….. i.e. not taking into account the cumulative effect of the discounts……1st discount only leaves ~92.5% for the 2nd discount to impact on so more like 7.5% + 9.25% (10% of 92.5%) = 16.75% (actually 16.732% ignoring real world roundings along the way). Yes, the username is accurate :)

        • Are you MathNerd's reincarnation?

    • I got 17.1% though… what's you calculation mate?

    • Lol - you already have the gift card, so you have 7.5% off anywhere else as well.

So you arent getting a true 17.5% because now you spent it, you dont get 7.5% off another purchase.

      Its like this.

Your $200 coles gift card saves you $15 off this $200 card so you have now saved $35

Or you buy this gift card for $200 saving $20
You buy something else with your Coles mastercard and you have saved $15

Net effect you saved $35 either way.

Last week woolies 15% is so much better if you wanted to get JBHIFI only.

    • +8

Last weeks selection didnt have JB

      • Thats what I thought ^

        • +1

          Sorry my bad!!!!

    • Last week's Woolies at 15% was better for Him (for BBQ galore in my case)

  • +4

First time a deal starts from Monday?

  • Omg.. here we go again I guess… 3 weeks of gift card sales in a row…

  • So what's the limit in $ terms - $250 or $500? Or to put that better - does Coles sell the $100 Ultimate cards?

    Flybuys points are presumably accrued?

    • +3

They sell $100 cards but some stores sell out pretty quick when these deals run.

Fly buys points do but generally not recommended to scan as it bumps the required spend on your spend x to get x points offers right up

  • +1

Meh, was 15% at Woolies for Ultimate Him used it to get a Weber Baby Q for $220.15 which is the cheapest i've ever seen it. Good that this deal includes JB and TGG though.

    • that was a rare deal

    • Not many ppl really need the Ultimate Him card, most ppl here are after the other Ultimate cards for JBHifi / TGG.

  • +1

anyone know how many gift cards or egift cards you can use instore at The Good Guys?

    • +1

Depends on the person you get. Online it is 2, I’ve heard in store it is 5. But there’s nothing stopping them from actually accepting more.

      • These are just like EFTPOS card instore, so no limits. And these can not be used online anyway. So online limit does not matter

    • +2

I purchased $3k of kitchen appliances. So yeah they didn't mind

      • What is the highest denomination for the cards?

        • +1

$100, if they have them in stock

      • why should they mind unless they don't want the sale, plenty of stores are happy to take your money for the sale. I will let them keep it if they mind how I pay.

    • i tried using 40 yesterday for a $4000 sale and the cashier told me there a was a new limit of 5 per transaction and i asked for the policy and the cashier said i could find it online, and there was no policy stating this limit so imma call up and ask about this policy because now i have spare giftcards lying around defeating the purpose

the other week however at a differ TTG i managed to use 16 for $1000

      • I rang my local TGG store the other day and they said no limit. I think it depends on the store. There doesn't seem to be a policy for TGG. Maybe it is the individual store that is putting on that limit?….after all they are owned by JB HIFI now, so maybe some stores are using their policies? IDK

      • I just used 20 of these at my local TGG, when I showed them the cards initially the cashier told me there’s a limit of 5 but when I said these should work like an Eftpos card he then apologised for misunderstanding and all 20 cards went through without a problem. So tell them it’s an Eftpos card, not a gift card, otherwise try a different store.

        • [this forum]/(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/633270)

i put up a forum and legally there is no policy like that and i got it sorted

        • -1

there is no such limit in the system since it clearly works in other stores. The only reason is staff are lazy to do multiple split payment.

Retailer staff in Australia is working with a shocking attitude. I am not sure how they got trained that they don't understand "customer service" meaning. They are lazy and just want to do easy job instead of helping customer.

If you hate serving customer so much, f**king quit the job then.

These recent promotion has let more ppl experience the real "customer service" attitude in Australia, from Coles to WW to JB/TGG.

  • +2

    Can they remove participating retailers?

Do they have to guarantee the retailers for the duration the gift cards are valid?

Speaking of guarantee, gift cards are unsecured right?

Are they trading on just good faith and reputation? What solid backings do they have?

I think this type of gift cards carry higher risk then store's own gift cards.

    • +1

I think the highlighted stores in the post might mean it will be taken off?

      • +4

they are highlighted because they are big/the most common use of these cards.

    • +2

Personally I won't be buying large amounts of gift cards to keep for extended periods. As you never know when rules/terms and conditions/companies change their rules.

      • +5

Good idea. I bought some TCN ones last year, was sort of stressful to keep thinking about them and to look for JBHiFi sales or search for things to price match. The mental toll sort of negated the whole exercise.

    • +6

      Can they remove participating retailers?

Yes, and Ultimate Gift Cards have done that in the past.

Case in point is the Ultimate Her gift card: David Jones stopped accepting Ultimate Her gift cards towards the end of last year. As far as I am aware, it doesn't matter if you bought the cards before David Jones stopped accepting them or if the Ultimate Her gift card you purchase has the David Jones logo; David Jones will no longer accept them as a valid payment method in their store and that's their choice. That's why you see the The Ultimate Her card can no longer be used at David Jones message plastered at the top of the Ultimate Her Gift Card page.

    • They can and that is what they did with Ultimate Her card… i.e remove David Jones

  • -4

Hide and seek are now begining :))))

    • for 10% I doubt that. They always have this on sale with 2000 Flybuys point (~$10) for $50 card.

  • 99bikes also accept Ultimate Him

Used them instore after doing a price beat

    • Updated the table. Appears they added a few more stores to some of the cards.

  • +1

No JBHIFI for HER, why is that?

    • I know! It's like why there isn't a JD Sports for HIM. Whyyy??

  • Hopefully they've got it sorted compared with the debacle of last December :)

    • Last year is TCN card which is completely different company. Ultimate Card is losing out to TCN one with better inclusion and nicer looking design.

  • anyone know if I could use those gift cards to buy itunes card please?

    • +1

      Ultimate Teens/Home/Kids -> JB Hi-Fi -> iTunes Gift Card

Not 100% if JB Hi-Fi still allows you to purchase iTunes Gift Card with Gift Cards.

      • Thanks! Then will to head to JBHF and try my luck first

        • +6

Ultimate Gift Cards are actually EFTPOS gift cards that can only be spent at certain stores, and JB Hi-Fi treat them as Visa/MC/AMEX/EFTPOS cards at JB Hi-Fi, so as long as you tell the cashier that you’re paying by card (and not gift card), it should be fine.

          • @WookieMonster: I had a shill whinger @ JB tell me no.

I wasn't even buying gift cards with gift cards, I wanted Nintendo store credit/GPlay credit.

          • @WookieMonster: Mate could you tell me, do you say credit to the JBHIFI cashier and then slide the card/enter it into the machine and then press in a PIN? Thanks.

      • yes u can no probs. handy if u cant wait for the next 15% off deal

        • this! would recommend wait for next 15% off AND price match at office works for maximum savings!

          • @Vitorll: It probably won't happen again.

            • @samehada: happens every 2/3 months. I always recharge that way

          • -1

@Vitorll: Except the TCN 15% off sale, when is the 15% off sale that you mention "happen every 2-3 months?"

or you mean iTune gift card sale?

            • @samehada: yeah still on the itunes gc comment, trying to help RooBun

  • If u wonder where to use the Toyworld in Sydney, we found a shop down in Kiama!!

    • …But Kiama isn't in Sydney…

  • Can we use this to buy apple product at TGG or JB Hifi?

  • -1

Can someone help me with the Maths on this:

    I bought 2 x $250 Coles Mastercard - 7.5%ish discount from this.
Price matched Amazon got 2 x blender for $288.
[HS!!! I just realised i'm an idiot, I should have price matched at Jb-Hifi which has three gift cards opposed to Good Guys one] Anyway back to the calculation
I had to pay $57.60 20% deposit using coles giftcard and the remaining $230.40, I will pay using the Coles Mastercard to buy the Ultimate Home gift card (giftception) and then get another 10% off
