    Ozbargain’s favourite drug…

    • +12

Looking at the idiotic statements made on Ozbargain by a lot of people, I don't think paracetamol is the favourite drug of many who post!

      • +4

He probably just wanted to make it fun. I dont think anybody would like to take medicines over being healthy.

        • +1

Yes, my comment was mostly in jest (but not totally!). Paracetamol is less a medicine and more a millennial substitute for Bex powders (for any old enough, or well read enough, to remember the original 'housewife addiction' from the last century)

    • +6

Actually my favorite drug is MDMA. But whatever.

      • Username checks out…

    • +1

I always thought that caffeine was the best drug

  • +2

I thought Eneloops were the favourite drug

    • eneloops are chargies, these are downers.

      • Can't be used as a suppository?

        • +2

Anything is if you're brave enough

  • There is a government imposed limit of 1 box per purchase transaction.

    • I always buy this on sale to save a few bucks.

Was gonna stock up a few boxes. I thought they got rid of the limits?

      • Per transaction. You can probably enter the shop multiple times.

        • Can confirm, you can buy 2 boxes, exit the shop, walk back in and buy 2 more. Rinse and repeat.

          • +3

@flagger: What a pain. Luckily, there's a deal here somewhere that helps with that…

          • @flagger: Yep in baby formula fashion

          • @flagger:

here is a government imposed limit of 1 box per purchase transaction.

            or

Can confirm, you can buy 2 boxes

at the time of the last offer I was told it was one
but then we were in lockdown in Victoria

            has it changed since?

            • +1

@docians: Went in during lunchtime and they only let me buy one box

    • +1

Given you can kill the average adult with less than half of one of these packs, I have to wonder what the point of such a limit is?

They stopping bargain hunters on here from stocking up like they're date rolls in a lock-down so that arthritic pensioner grandmas can actually get a box?

      • So for an average family of four you would need to make two transactions. Ie. 2 boxes

Lucky we don't have death taxes in oz, otherwise the price wouldnt be 69 it would be closer to 666.

  • +1

    Dont forget cashback :D

I'm kicking myself now not using cashback when ordering 1 pack earlier

Maybe these will help ease the pain of not getting anything in the OzB treasure hunt.

Any expecting ozbargainers should be aware of recent studies connecting prenatal paracetamol usage with a number of negative neurodevelopmental outcomes:

All included studies suggested an association between prenatal [paracetamol] exposure and the neurodevelopmental outcomes; ADHD, ASD, or lower IQ. Longer duration of [paracetamol] use was associated with increased risk. Associations were strongest for hyperactivity and attention-related outcomes. Together, these nine studies suggest an increased risk of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes following prenatal [paracetamol] exposure. Further studies are urgently needed with; precise indication of use and exposure assessment of use both in utero and in early life. Given the current findings, pregnant women should be cautioned against indiscriminate use of [paracetamol]. These results have substantial public health implications.

    • Interesting abstract with potentially enormous repercussions. I'll try to read the full paper when I'm at work with access. Although it looks like a preliminary review that is not necessarily conclusive. Things like drugs in pregnancy are notoriously hard to study given the ethical constraints.

      • +4

Here's a more recent meta-analysis with over 70,000 mother-child pairs that found children were about 20% more likely to exhibit ADHD/ASC when their mother used paracetamol while pregnant. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34046850/

Yep, paracetemol is not as benign as originally thought. Misused it's the major cause of acute liver failure in western countries and somewhat surprisingly accounted for a majority of drug overdoses in Au at one point.

Anyone else sometimes drink paracetamol to fall asleep easier?

Or am I a victim of the placebo effect?

    • Placebo

    • I reckon it's more the drink of choice

    • +2

I had a psychologist acquaintance recommend this as a way to get to sleep when suffering from anxiety.

    • It does make me sleepy, but I dont use that as an aid to sleep.

    • It never makes me sleepy. Pseudo ephedrine on the other hand.

  • Are these powdery tablets that get stuck in your throat (versus coated capsules for example)?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +10

I read somewhere it's easier with a sip of water.

      • Umm yeah, they still get stuck though imho

    • +2

Swallow them with some water and you are fine. Or don't do what my ex used to do and sit with the tablet in your mouth for 1 minute while it dissolves, then complain about swallowing it lol

    • I've had to take medication daily for long periods in my life and I still have a 50/50 strike rate of getting these down with a sip of water.

      • I've always done it a bit backwards, but with very high success rate.

Tilt my head back, mouth 3/4 full of water, drop the pill/s in… Swish & swallow.

        • If they're too big to swallow whole, chew first then swallow. Works for me. (Maybe you don't have any teeth?)

A drink definitely helps to wash away the taste.

  • Just went to my local chemist warehouse and it’s still ticketed at $2.99. But scanned at checkout for $0.69.

Also limit of one per customer so I’ll need to make a few trips.

  • +1

Damn it I paid full price last week. Think I can refund?

Downvoters: This is a joke post

    • How much is full price? $2.50?

I remember the Chemist Warehouse Panamax are always pretty cheap.

      • $2.99

    • Mate, I actually paid $2.99. Feels shit. Wish I didn't see this bargain.

      • Hasn't it been ~/<$1.99 since… forever

        • Nah normal price is $2.99. It just perpetually goes on sale every other week for $0.99.

    • +1

Paying more than needed is never a joke at OzBargain

      • Yeah, every dollar counts. Does 69c count? My brain hurts, time for a box of panamax.

  • +1

Made my hubby take me all the way to auburn to get some.
Went into the store. Picked up the Panamax went to the check out and told them it shows up as 69 cents on website but 2.99 on the shelf.
He told me that’s the chemist warehouse website and this store is Cincotta Chemist.
    Looked like an idiot.
I blame the baby brain, what a waste of 2.99!

    • +1

Wouldn't the petrol cost more than the savings?

    • Yep, you must be having a baby, mate. You should have remembered to ask them to price match, or price beat.

  • At the Woodville SA Chemist Warehouse they didn't allow my mum and I to buy a box each in separate transactions claiming a limit of one per group. A bit absurd since we're individual people with our own needs. Never had an issue before as we were allowed to do separate transactions at other CW stores only a few weeks prior.
