Using Different Branded Supermarket Bags at Supermarkets

This is completely silly but its just a tiny bit of FU for making me pay for bags and i definitely know that staff give zero f%*^s, but does anyone else take different brand reusable bags to whatever supermarket they’re shopping at?

I do but only if it’s on hand and not going out of my way. E.g. I’m ducking in to woollies and have coles and woolies bags in boot I’ll intentionally choose a coles bag.

8 years ago when plastic bags were banned I was certainly conscious about taking Woolies bags to Coles and vice versa. Now I don't give a toot.

You don't have an option for "I don't notice which bags I use".

Buy your own bags, not from the supermarkets. They are usually unbranded and better quality.

Why would you pay a premium to advertise for a company?

"I was going to Coles, but I just saw a Woolworths bag, so now I'm going there instead."
      "Oh hi Nobody Ever"

Am i the only one with about 500 bags stashed in corner at home??
Cause I always hit the shops on the way home from work and never have bags with me..

yes yes yes.. I have some now stashed in the car

as for which shops labelled bags I used, which ever I grab first.

I still forget the ducking bags and have to to the grumpy walk back to the damn car to retrieve.

I even use woolies trollies in costco.

    • Jokes on you, can't fit as much bulk buying in the woolies trolleys!

      • How else I get to cut down on my other half spending ;)

        • Cut up your costco card and never go back! Honestly never left that place without spending $300 or more.

  • When Colesworth decided they weren't going to give out bags any more, I bought a heap of Aldi branded bags and have been using them ever since. I hardly ever shop at Aldi, but there is no way I was going to give my cash to Colesworth for bags.

I usually shop at Aldi only, and got tired of the cashiers always asking "did you bring that bag or are you buying it?", or sometimes even treating me like a criminal who is about to to steal a 20 cent bag.

Ever since I started bringing those $1 reusable and replaceable (for free!) Woolies green bags, they have stopped asking those annoying questions.

So yeah, I do use different supermarket bags, but more for the convenience that nobody is gonna bother me or ask me to pay for them.

    • I notice that at aldi as well. Maybe subconsciously thats the reason i do it.

  • I always find it slightly funny when I use the wrong bag, but not enough to change my behaviour. A bag is a bag and I doubt the staff care or pay attention

  • As long as it's the same colour as the store im good lol

I got quite a few free bags from this deal and has been using them everywhere. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/604990

i just put the groceries straight into my boot, sometimes I even get them out once I get home

I just use boxes from the fruit/veg section

  • Couldn't care less… But given there was the deal where Woolies gave out 5 free fabric bags, I've just used those.

  • I use whatever reusable bag I bought with me, I don't care or pay attention to match the bag branding to the shop.

It is better to use another supermarket's bags so that the staff won't need to ask you if you have paid for your bags making you feel as if you have stolen them.

I intentionally use the different brand bag so that people KNOW that I'm reusing and eco-conscious, it's a flex. Why yes I am from Melbourne, thanks for asking.

  • I use whatever is in my car, or easiest to grab from pantry/floor/whereever.

15c per bag is the cost of doing business, others have too much time on their hands.

You’ve over thought this - no one will notice or care about your protest alternate bag use.

Like most people I use a variety of branded and unbranded bags. I like the ones with longer straps so I can put it over my shoulder. So no, brand is not considered.

An aside - Our Woolworths insulated bag straps disintegrated and they wouldn’t replace it as part of their “bag for life” policy as that only applies to green bags, not the blue insulated ones (which woolies said they no longer make). So I got an Aldi insulated bag which is very good.
