Same deal as last time but Amazon has dropped the price of this again! We're almost at the magical $1/GB mark. Even cheaper if you use a card like 28 Degrees and not Amazons terrible conversion rate.

Posted again due to the other deal dropping off the front page, feel free to take it down if you think its a dupe.

    • Cheapest previous one I can see is 165, so it has come down another $7.

Well some people don't look past the front page and it hasn't stopped others from reposting.

If people kept updating that initial deal then it would've been buried pretty deep by now.

      • dont give them the answer, make them search

    • +2

Sure it dropped $7 I accept that.

But do you see that box in the top right of the page? Two of the top three deals in the Computing category are already for this exact same item from the exact same retailer.

If this deal gets another 50 votes then it will become the 4th top deal in the category.

If all three deals, and any other past listings for this same deal (albeit at different prices) were all combined then this would DEFINITELY be on the front page and on the popular deals page with over 170 votes.

Vote neg all you want but those are the facts.

          "Your a troll!"
          =/=
          "You're a troll!"

          Your 'fact' is flawed.

Price drop is a valid reason for a repost.

  • Tempting.. Have been wanting a SSD for so long now…

Anyone know how long it takes to arrive?
    come with a 3.5 bracket?

    • +2

Regular shipping always seem to arrive in around 2 weeks for me

    • +1

Generally a week or just a bit over.
      Max would be 3 weeks.

I bought it and they shipped it in the morning.

      • +1

Will think about it… Already bought a 8TB NAS today.. :D

    • +1

No bracket with the 3 I bought a few months ago… still tempted to get this one too :-)

  • Got one.. sweet price. Thank OP

  • +2

Might just wait a few weeks, at this rate it'll be $10 delivered :)

    • Yeah seems to keep going down $10.

  • What the hell is Amazon thinking?
I mean this is way below the usual sell price.

  • +2

Again stop whipping this dead horse

  • Getting so close to the $1/gb ratio

    • No it went down, It's 157 at the moment.

  • waiting for 150 or below price

    • +4

I'm sure someone will repost when it happens…

  • Hot! but no money to spend on upgrading pc atm.

  • +1

Just bought one. Paid just under $160 including shipping with our stronger dollar.
That's close enough to $150 to me!

  • Free delivery only applies to the US. Anyone knows how much is the postage to oz?

    • Add it to cart and Amazon will tell you. You can choose between expedited shipping or courier.

It shows as $6.61 for me for Expedited Shipping (8-16 days). I've received packages as soon as 6 days and as late as 14 days. Courier is $31.49.

      This is to Melbourne.

  • This is just wow! Really really tempting..

  • So going by the other posts in the top 5 over there, we're going down at around 5 bucks a day. I can wait another week for another 30 bucks or so off ;)

  • does amazon use any registered or just normal post? coz I am thinking to ship to my work address as I will not be home for delivery??

    if anyone know.. thanks

    • eParcel, not registered

      Delivery Instructions
Leave at the address in a secure place if no one is present

Post man did not bother knocking on my door, they left it in the mail box, I only knew it was delivered when I checked the tracking information.

      • At my last house the postman didn't knock and he never delivered a single parcel lol. Just left a 'sorry we missed you' card and I had to pick up at the post office.

        • We used to get that a lot at our old house, because the driveway was quite long - can't see the house from the road..

So they'd just leave a message in the mailbox. Lazy shits.

  • Are there different standards for SSD, such that some are faster than others? Is this one of the slower ones?

    • Different brands offer different speeds but generally they fall into the same ball park. Crucial M4 offer a good ratio of performance and reliability. You can't go wrong with this one if you're after an SSD.

    • +1

This is an excellent SSD. Fast and reliable. The only brand more reliable than this would be Intel, and with them you're either sacrificing a bit of speed or paying a hefty premium.

      • +1

        Dont forget samsung drives.

  • I received mine today. Took about a week, they left it in the mail box but if you go to the tracking of the courier company (not just use the tracking on Amazon.com) you can see when they send it out.

I can't believe how cheap this has got! Incredible. I'm still happy with the $180 I paid, $160 is ridiculous!

  • I have to keep reminding myself not to buy this till i upgrade as i dont have SIII so wont be able to use it to its full potential.
That, and when i do upgrade there will be cheaper/faster drives most likely

  • Whoops, dupe post

  • Back up to $180.

  • Paid $170 for this today with the Silverstone mounting kit! Thanks OP!

Edit: Chances are I probably got the last one Amazon had as it now says 'Ships from and sold by J&R Music and Computer World' as opposed to Amazon themselves selling and shipping it….

  • Anyone think it may have been clearance?

  • 3 Crucial 128GB SSD deals on the top right 'top deals' section, nice :)

  • +3

Looks like the lowest price was very short-lived. It is now back to US$174.99 To those who got in, well done. To those that missed out, well, just wait another day or two for another ozb post.

  • Can this just replace an existing hard drive in a laptop without the need to install any drivers?

    • +1

Yep, there are no drivers required, but I'd advise a fresh installation of Windows and not a clone/backup and restore of your existing drive.

      • why not the clone/ghost ?
Is it just a recommendation for peak performance, or a "must do" to ensure reliability ?
The full re-install is more painful than the $180.

        • Cloning the drive may not align the partition correctly, especially if coming from an older drive.

Reinstall is definitely the best option.

    • Depends on the laptop. If you have standard SATA and Power connectors and it has space for a 2.5" drive, you should be fine. Some laptop manufacturers use smaller (1.8") drives or proprietary connectors and this of course, would not fit. Best to pop it open to check first.

Drivers wise, for Windows 7 OS, shouldn't be a problem.

  • are the price fluctuations because Crucial are going to release their adrenaline SSD drives?

    • Adrenaline drives are designed to be a cache drive and not a traditional storage medium. It is for a different purpose and shouldn't be compared to the M4. I'd say these are just standard price drops as the technology matures further and the initial R&D costs are recovered.

  • what is a good mounting bracket?, for the ssd?

Is the SSD bracket suggested any good for the combo, and whats the postage on it

    Ta

    • +1

brackets are more or less the same. they should all have standard mount holes. your only choices are whether you want the bracket for a 5.25" or 3.5" bay. between the two bay sizes you also have a choice of single, double or even quad (for the 5.25") mounts.

outside of that it's just the choice of colour and your favourite wank logo to show everyone who can't see it once mounted in the case.

  • Does Amazon deliver to Australia or do you guys use a shipping redirector?

    • Depends on the item, in this case yes

  • hopefully it will drop down again

    • If recent history is anything to go by, it should be any minute now ;-). I missed yesterday's deal, so I've got a camelcamelcamel alert set up so that it doesn't happen again.

  • The prices for this thing are all over the place, yesterday it was over $180 USD, this morning it's $160.99 USD - I finally took the plunge and ordered one, $162.07 AUD delivered.

If you've been holding off then now might be the time to make a move before the price shifts yet again.
