VMware Fusion (Mac) for USD $45 (Normally USD $50)

A deal advertised on the "Mac OS Ken" podcast website. I could not find any expiry date, but the coupon code seems to work today (11/02/2012).

Deal was advertised here: http://www.macosken.com/index.html

VMWare Fusion allows you to run other operating systems from your Mac OS X. It can also boot a physical BootCamp Windows partition within a virtual machine, without screwing up your installation.

Parallels is similar software, but is more expensive. VirtualBox is a free alternative, but does not offer all of the features of the other two (e.g. BootCamp booting in a VM).

My first bargain. Burn away.

First post, nice find, but 10% isn't really a bargain.

    Wow $5 off!

    Burnt.

  • Bought this when it was $34.99

$5 savings may not seem much, but think of it this way:

    1. Get Fusion ($45)
    2. Upgrade Fusion to Parallels ($39.95): http://www.parallels.com/au/products/desktop/vmwareoffer/for…

Total cost: $84.95. That's a savings of $5…. on Parallels ($89.95), with a "free" copy of Fusion 4.

By the way, I think Parallels is much better than Fusion.

    • Nice. Although, at nearly twice the price, you'd want parallels to be significantly better. What are your reasons for preferring parallels? Just curious.

There isn't much point in owning both, unless you could sell the VMWare Fusion license?

      • Their performances are almost identical.
Some areas, Parallels wins; others, Fusion.
Under normal usage, you probably won't notice the difference.

For me, it boils down to the interface/personal preference.
I work in fullscreen mode (Lion) A LOT. And I find Parallel's fullscreen support to be much better than Fusion's.

In addition to that, Parallels' VM-Lion integration simply feels more "natural".
And finally, I've had bad experience with VMWare's products in the past.
While this has nothing to do with Fusion 4, I can't help but feel uneasy whenever I use Fusion.

        My recommendation is:

        1. Use cobberboy's code to get Fusion.
        2. Get Parallels trial.
        3. If you prefer Fusion, you just saved $5.
        4. If you prefer Parallels, use the upgrade/discount link to buy Parallels. You save $5, and you get to keep your copy of Fusion.

        Some notes from experience:

        • You cannot refund Fusion 4.
        • You can refund Parallels 7.
        • If you use the Parallels' upgrade offer, changed your mind and got a refund, then realised just how much better Parallels is and changed your mind back again, the same fusion key cannot be used with the offer/discount again. You can, however, call their Australian site and try to convince them to give you the discount again. :P

    • If you're set on buying Parallels Desktop 7, you're probably better off buying it as part of this $49 bundle (which includes 9 other apps): http://macsuperbundle.com/

(Bundle is still available as of right now, but the countdown timer has reached zero, which suggests it'll be pulled soon.)

  • Until recently, VMWare Fusion was USD$79. The current price won't last, but they won't say when it will expire.

Under these circumstances, a further 10% starts looking significant.

PS: if that's "burned", I don't know what I was worried about!
