25% off Hotel Bookings @ Agoda (Mastercard Req.)

350

25% off accommodation rates on Agoda using an eligible Mastercard. Seems like a proper discount when I compared rates on trivago, hotelscombined and booking.com for a particular hotel and dates that I wanted to travel on but YMMV.

Do check prices through this Mastercard promo vs cashback as it may be more worth it to use cashback 10-11% currently instead of this promo for certain hotels. I don't think cashback is eligible if using this Mastercard promo.

Per T&Cs:
All Australian issued Mastercard
Booking period: 26 June to 30 June 2021
Stay period: 26 June 2021 to 30 June 2022

This Promotion is only valid for hotels that have the “Promotion Eligible” banner on the search results page and “Pre paid”, “Pay now” and “Book Now, Pay later” room types only. Rooms that have the “Pay at the Hotel” flag do not qualify for the promotion

Question is if they've jacked up the price before applying the discount

    • +1

My booking for a night in Geelong was more expensive on Agoda before the discount but less after the discount.

So it wasn't a true 25% saving in my case but still better than what I had.

I deleted the Agoda app as it was bugging me with phantom discounts repeatedly.

Horrible customer experience that drove me to delete the app vs using it which I assume they intend.

Hence the suggestion to check with other competitor sites before booking. In my instance, other competitors were equal/higher than agoda before discount.

  • Is the displayed price the discounted price. I've entered Mastercard number but nothing indicates further discount applied?

    • Did you try clicking through a cashback site? I don't think the Mastercard banner is visible using a cashback site. If you just click directly from the link in this post, you should see a Mastercard banner and the hotel rates will display both the normal rate and one with a 25% discount.

  • Mastercard promotion price clearly displayed on my the property im interested in. Check out with my mastercard with full price? am I doing it wrong?

Saw the mastercard banner and price breakdown with included discount. on desktop chrome.

    • When checking out with a Mastercard, it will display the discounted price before making payment. Perhaps your Mastercard isn't eligible for some reason? I'm using 28 degrees if that helps.

I just did the obverse of the suggestion you gave to ozstig and tried via the mobile site and it worked. Thanks:)

Been trying to get this to work since weekend, tried coles mastercard and commbank debit card, on checkout I am not getting the discounted rate even if the rooms I selected are supposedly Promotion eligible. Checked it in both desktop and mobile site so maybe my cards are not considered AU-issued

    • Same here :(

    • I just booked a place with my Coles mastercard and got the discount. Did it through mobile website (not app) if that helps!

      • good on you, was it the rewards card? I tried it for my rewards and no fee Coles cards but to no avail so settled for the 10% offer in Cashrewards. oh well…

Also, were you using Chrome? I wonder if the browser may be causing issues.

        • Mine is the paid rewards card, and I used Chrome on Android mobile.

  • Cant seem to get this working.

I can see the banner and promo price all the way through but when I reach the Book Now page and enter my CC details the final price shown is without the discount. Tried on both PC and mobile browser.

Similar issues. Plus it's bait-and-switch since the search results automatically portray the discount as being available on all room types in a Promo Eligible property, but when you click through the discount may not be available on the cheapest rooms.

Click to reserve a room and the figure that was previously shown gets GST added to it. And then after I enter a Mastercard number (tried several different ones) there is no discount applied.

      • Example hotel I'm looking at in the search results page says Price per night as low as $79, and Your price after promo $60.
      • Click through and there is no room for $79.
      • The cheapest is $82 and there is no promo discount on that room type.
      • Next cheapest is $90, and Your price after promo $67.
      • Click to reserve and GST is added, bringing the pre-discount price up to $98.51.
      • Enter card number and the system recognises it as Mastercard (displays the MC logo on the card outline).
      • The price disappears to update, but instead of $67+GST it still reappears as $98.51.

I've had the same experience in the past. It's a classic bait and switch. Spoke to their support about it who didn't really care so vowed never to use Agoda again. Many places cheaper anyway.

        • I used to use Agoda a lot but now these tactics just piss me off.

Found myself using other sites a lot more now.

  • It’s charged me for the full amount even tho the banner appeared and I used a CBA MasterCard. Trying to contact customer support but the chatbot saying the Booking ID is invalid. No other cash back was used.

  • Working well with both Citi and Macquarie MasterCard… Thank you!

    • After you enter your credit card details does it show the reduced amount prior to pressing the pay button?

      • +1

Yep just before the Pay button upon entering the CC details the price changed… Applying a promo C_MC_AU 25% automatically to the total price. You don't need to enter anything else except a valid MasterCard. I listed the two which worked for me. I first tried using another prepaid MC which didn't work. So please be mindful that not all MC would work.

        • It doesn't seem that card type is the issue, considering that a couple of previous comments said it didn't work for them on PC but then did work on mobile (or vice versa). And OP said they used 28 Degrees but that didn't work for me (nor did any other types).

  • I got it working using the mobile site also

  • only worked on mobile website for me, not on PC website. I have tried few different debit and credit MasterCards, all works on mobile site.

  • working on PC website. thanks OP

  • I had to delete the app on mobile before it would work. Went through fine on a mobile browser but it wasn't 25% cheaper than the competition.
