[WA] 51% off Gas Usage and Supply Charges for 12 Months @ AGL

1220

I was already with AGL and my 2 year 44% discount was ending. I had a flyer a few months ago so I tried the generic address listed on it, once I put in my address and went through to switch plan it says 'guaranteed 52% off'. A friend of mine got same result.
Not sure if this is a typo or not as through the normal channels a WA address is offered 51% off. I signed up for this and it worked so thought I should post so others can get it. Let me know if this isn't a deal as it's only 1% more than usual discounted price..

Looks to be the same as this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/610546

Edit: It appears there are 2 deals here:
1: I have changed the main link to the 'better deal' - 51% off usage AND supply charges. This page has a 51% off banner, with a cartoon stylized woman figure. Check the deal before you submit the change to ensure it is both usage and supply.

2: The original link (and the deal I signed up to) has a photo image with people sitting at an outdoor table. This got me an offer for 52% off my USAGE ONLY (may vary depending on location). This link is: https://www.agl.com.au/localWA
If you signed up to this, people have has some success switching by using the online chat.

Simply Energy offers the same, I guess all of them offers the same if you ring them up.

    • +1

Only the usage I believe, Simply Energy does not discount the supply charge

  • +1

thanks op. quick change plan online from 46% to 51%.

    perth, wa.

    • Were you on the 46% guaranteed discount for 12 months (and still in the 12 months' period)?

      • yes

        • Thanks. I just changed to the 46% plan a few months ago, wondering if I should change to this 51% plan 🤔

          • @digitale: i dont see any reason not to improve the discounts rate.

  • +3

"Sorry, it doesn't look like we currently supply energy to your area." Although I am currently connected with AGL!

  • The rates will also increase with the new plan.
    NEW
    Anytime : First 12 Units 15.34500 cents/Unit Thereafter 13.83800 cents/Unit
    Supply charge : 22.22000 cents/day

    Current Rates

    Anytime First 12 Units 15.16900 cents/Unit Thereafter 13.68400 cents/Unit

    Supply charge : 21.96700 cents/day

    • the rates have always been on a variable rate. so even if you are on an old plan, these new rates will still apply regardless.

      • Yeah i believe rates are changing either way!

    • I was on an older deal and switched to Origin to save a few $ and get the Woolies rewards points sign up bonus. About a week later I got a call from AGL and they offered me what you have listed under 'Current Rates' above, so I stayed with them. That works out to the 52% disc as well as the cheaper daily supply charge.

Strangely enough a few hours after I got off the phone with AGL, Woolies confirmed that my Origin sign up bonus points had been credited to my account lol.

Note: Origin did a credit check on me, so if you are just trying to get the free Woolies points keep this in mind. I was pretty annoyed they did a credit check…

      • How'd you find out they did a credit check? Surprised they didn't warn your first

        • It showed up on my credit file, you can sign up to free services like creditsavvy.com.au, creditsimple.com.au etc and view it as often as you like.
Plus it was more than likely written in the T&C that I didn't read.

    • I was looking at that too, rates are about a 1% increase for maybe 5% saving?

    • My current rate is
      Anytime $0.1379/Unit
      Supply charge $0.1997

The new rate is much higher

      • my bad my rate is exclude GST after I add GST it is the same price

    • I receive 50% and are better of with the current rates compared to received 51% but more expensive rates.

I am very happy with AGL.

We use a gas heater from 4pm every day until morning 7pm.

Heats the whole house but still only pay $250 for 94 days.

Hot water system and cooking stove is gas as well.

      • everyone is on the same variable rate.

  • Change from 50% pay on time to 51% guaranteed. worth the switch.

    • Same .. i have the 50% for 1.5 year … just switched to 51% … hopefully they keep that rate more than 12 months like my previous discount.

      • +2

in the notes on the plan it said when it expires they will continue the discount to the next period.. see what happens.. just keep an eye out in a year :)

  • Thanks! Checked my existing account and I had the 52% option

    • What's the name of your 52% plan?
      I only have:
AGL SET & FORGET 51% and
      AGL SAVERS 50%
      https://imgur.com/5qT6JnL

      • I can't see it anymore as it just says "Current plan" I thought it was savers, but now savers is back to 50%. It was the first option for me and I already was on 50% off previously.

        My Current Plan

        PLAN DETAILS
        Discounts off energy usage charges
        52% Guaranteed
        YOU'LL ALSO GET
        12 Month Energy Plan Period
        No termination fees
        Variable Rate

        • Ok seems you need to use the link to get 52%. But it says:
Discounts off energy usage charges 52% Guaranteed

          Whereas the 51% says:
Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 51% Guaranteed

So unless you're a big user (~$1000 per quarter), seems the 51% plan is better?

          • @digitale: Damn yeh I just realised the other one had supply charges as well, the 52% doesn't. Tried to change it again but it errored me, probably try tomorrow as my bill isn't due yet.

      • make sure your url has something like 'AGLLOCALW' at the end, sometimes it'll redirect you to another page for some reason

  • -1

VERY SHORT honey-moon period, then you get slammed, sumo energy style:

"Please keep in mind that prices will change on 1 August 2021. If that happens for your account, and you’ve signed up, we’ll let you know.'

    FAIL

  • -1

(profanity) AGL. Honestly do yourself a favour and leave. Most likely you are paying more than you should with this shit company.

    • -1

My bills have been less over the same time frame/bill period compared to when I was with Kleenheat. Would prefer to stay with an Aussie company

      • -1

Kleenheat is a western Australian company

        • Yes I know, hence why I went from Kleenheat to AGL and not say Alinta

  • OP, does your 52% plan says "Discounts off energy usage and supply charges"? I tried your link and it says:
Discounts off energy usage charges 52% Guaranteed

So it seems no discount on the supply charges.
Another user also got the same result https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10676941/redir

    • +1

yes, correct. off both usage and supply charges

Edit: just re-read your question and yes, it appears as '52% guaranteed, off energy usage charges'. If I try to change to the 51% off deal, the option shows '51% guaranteed, off energy usage AND supply charges'.

Good pick up I will have to change again. Still waiting on original confirmation email and getting error when trying to change again

      • Ok thanks for the confirmation. I guess I'll change to the "Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 51% Guaranteed" plan instead.

  • Anyone managed to pricematch this with Kleenheat?

    • Dunno why you were down voted? I'd be interested to know too. I would rather my money go to Kleenheat

    • I tried to price match from kleenheat a couple of years ago when AGL first had their offer. They said no - they couldn't do any better than their current offers at the time. Not sure if their price matching policy has changed since.

  • Was already on 50% discount usage with AGL. Just switched to this, so hopefully get 50% off usage and supply. Thanks OP!

    • Did you use OP's link, or did you login to your account and change plan there?

        • so if you already have the 50% discount what will you get by switch again?

        • Can you please confirm which one you're getting:
          - Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 50% Guaranteed
          - Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 51% Guaranteed
          - Discounts off energy usage charges 52% Guaranteed
          - Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 52% Guaranteed

          • @digitale: I got this one:
            "Local WA gas discount
Get 50% off your gas usage and supply charges for 12 months."

            • @mandelbrot: Log in to your account and switch plan you get Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 51% Guaranteed

              • @RichardF89: Ah oh well. I did it via chat.
I'm happy to get a better deal than I'm currently on.

                • @mandelbrot: what did you get finally?

                  • @RichardF89: I got this one:
                    ""Local WA gas discount
Get 50% off your gas usage and supply charges for 12 months.""

I was getting errors when checking my address online (despite already being with AGL). So I just went on chat and got them to do it.

  • Edit

  • +1

Seems like there is 2 offers here … 52% discount for Usage charges only and the 51% discount includes Usage and Supply Charges …
    Seems 51% discount worth more… ?

    • That's what I'm getting as well.
Logging in and do a change of plan there are:
      - Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 50% Guaranteed
      - Discounts off energy usage and supply charges 51% Guaranteed

      Using OP's link:
      - Discounts off energy usage charges 52% Guaranteed

    • +1

have edited the post to try to clarify.. hopefully that helps. its rather confusing

      • Great … and if you are with AGL, this can be done by logging in to My Account and Change plan from there. I chose 51% discount

  • You have to compare the rate, you might getting higher rate with higher discounts.

    • I checked, the rates are all the same

    • Rates for me were as posted above, about 1% higher so worth the extra 5% off

      • The new rate is from 1 August 2021

    • variable rate. doesn't matter which plan you are on.

  • I am with AGL but when I put my address is shows

    Sorry, something's gone wrong.
We're having some issues accessing the right data. Please try reloading the page or get in touch with our team for more help.

    • i had the same error, try logging in first

      • I tried OP's new link works fine

  • I just so glad that deregulation has delivered these awesome products to the market!!

It is just so easy to compare the dozens of plans (and iterations of the same plan) and evaluate what option is best for me!!

As posted elsewhere, I received a notice from Simply stating that the daily supply charge would be around 31 cents from 1 July. This nearly double the regulated capped charge

    I'll probably just change supplier!

  • HOLD ON HOLD ON!

I logged in to my account and find the 51% plan is discounted for both usage and supply, while in the 52% plan, it's only off the usage.

Be aware of this. Unless it shows differently on your webpage.

    • yes I edited the post to hopefully clarify this.. it seems everyone has differing results

      • RIght before I click "next" to change to the 52% plan, I noticed there're two words missing. Lol.

        • will edit to change the main deal link to the 51% off usage AND supply. didnt notice myself and have signed up with the 52% one. will have to change again

          • +1

@motherdough: I had to do it on live chat but it's soooo slow compared to just changing the plan the first time lol

    • +1

Thanks for heads up. Double checked.mine is 52% for both supply and usage

    • The 52% was actually for usage and supply :( I just got the mail pamphlets for both (changed from 52% to 51%) and it stated 52% usage and energy. Now 52% option is gone, there goes my dollar a bill lol

  • Which area in WA AGL covers? I’ve entered 2 different addresses and no luck

    • try this agl.com.au/localWA

    • I just updated the post with a new link, the old one didn't include discount on supply charge. maybe try again?

    • I think their having issues, getting Ozbargained lol
But I'm in the northern suburbs and been with them for a year or more. I'm sure they do the entire metro area as a minimum

      • Seem like it. Addresses I entered before no longer works (now says "Sorry, it doesn't look like we currently supply energy to your area.").

    • I have same issue with several addresses.

  • +3

I sincerely think this is the biggest legal con of all time. In the beginning, before most of you were born, there was Citipower, who sold you electricity. Then some smart spark in the state government probably got bribed and offered private companies the opportunity to charge consumers whatever they like. Anyone can now resell gas and electricity and make lots of money merely by sending out the bills and answering some calls. They double the prices then offer 50% off the already inflated prices. They all charge different rates for supply and usage, tiers, discounts so it's almost impossible to compare without using excel. And the many companies are laughing all the way to the bank whilst basically doing nothing but sending out bills

    • I agree, but what's our alternative?

    • +5

That may be the case in other states but in WA the discount is actually off a standard rate which is regulated by the government. This is to prevent what you mentioned (doubling rates then offering high discounts). Also electricity in WA is still only retailed through synergy which is a government agency.

    • This ^^^

  • Thanks OP! 51% off usage and supply charges worked for me, great deal!

  • Aren't AGL the worst polluter in Australia or something like that? I know this is all about bargains but still…

    • +2

No idea but they do give you the option for zero emissions in your plan if you want to do your bit

    • Far from it

  • 27/01/2021 to 29/04/2021 (92 days)
Daily Supply Charge 21.98 cents per day $20.22
Account Fee 6.76 cents per day $6.22
Gas Usage Charge 2.58 Units per day @ 9.87 cents per Unit (incl 35% discount) $23.39
    Total new charges due $49.85
    Includes GST of $4.53

This is my bill at kleenheat in Perth, can someone do a comparision and let me know if moving to AGL will be cheaper? if cheaper, by how much?

    Thanks many

    • +1

I have a spreadsheet that works this out
with Kleenheat you pay roughly $49.86 for 2.58 units p/day @ 35% off
with AGL this deal (51% off usage and supply) this would be about $33.79

anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

      • wow thats almost $100 difference right there for the whole year. The link provided didnt work for me, as I dont have an account with AGL yet, do I need to sign up one in order for the link to work? Thanks heaps by putting up this deal.

        • +1

for this bill it is only about $16.07 difference, but for the year it would be about $64 as this is quarterly. I am unsure if you can access this deal if you aren't an existing customer. Maybe try going here: https://www.agl.com.au/ - then 'Get Connected'>'Electricity and Gas Plans' and putting in your address

          • @motherdough: Thanks that worked,

            Anytime
            First 12 Units
            c/Unit15.169
            Thereafter
            c/Unit13.684
            Supply charge
            c/day21.967

The supplier charge is about the same as mine, however are these prices per unit of 15.169 before the discount or after the discount? If its after discount its certainly cheaper to go with AGL, if its after the discount, isnt kleenheat cheaper as I am paying: Gas Usage Charge 2.58 Units per day @ 9.87 cents per Unit (incl 35% discount) $23.39?
