Are these any good? Never tried one before

Don't know. But half of them might be ok, the other half cause misery to chickens.

Personally, i think they're pretty good usually, but then again I'm not a very fussy eater.

  • +4

appear to have high sugar content

    • Yes way too much sugar to be good for you

      • +4

Tbf the sugar comes from dates and banana and ingredients list looks pretty clean overall (as per the name I guess lol)

        BUT it's a 40g bar with 9g of protein.

        Weird niche product

Not good for those on a low carb diet, not likely to be particularly satiating for those on calorie restricted diet although not the worst snack tbf at 150Cal.

Seems like this is really meant for reasonably light people who aim for the rdi of protein or want a whole food snack.

If someone is already prone to snacking at work or gets the urge to get something with a coffee etc at this price in particular Def not a bad option to keep in a desk as a replacement.

  • The few Atkins bars I've had have been my favourite protein bars. Low sugar on all of them I assume because Atkins is a no/low carb diet.

Found a whole stack at Coles the other day on clearance (~$1 per bar).

I think there is new packaging coming out… Worth checking your local…

    Protein Bars $0.69

    42% carbs

    no thanks…

    • Agree, they are more sugar than protein

  • Atkins Day Break Hazelnut Bar 5 pack $5.75 (Was $11.50)

Got the last 3 boxes at my Coles the other for $3 each… :)

At least one of the 'plant based' bars have honey in them..

    • -2

You mean the ONE bar that's flavoured and advertised as HONEY roast almond, doesn't claim to be vegan and is vastly plant derived?

Yeah… glad you picked up on that one

Not sure why you're getting upset.

There are many plant based items that have the flavour of non plant based things. EG. "Plant based beef".

The packaging of this item is very misleading. I was just giving people the heads up.

        Have a nice evening.

Does plant based mean vegan though? Genuine question, though I assume there’s a difference in that plant based isn’t strictly 100% vegan

      • +1

"Plant based" has been co-opted by people and businesses these days to mean whatever they want it to mean. Must always read the ingredients. Good pickup by Vampyr.

      • It's supposed to mean as it sounds. A bee is not a plant.

        • Well honey comes from flowers 🤷‍♂️

          • @shoppe: You have a well thought out point.

            • +1

@Vampyr: With technicality, to me it just means based mostly on plant ingredients as the majority protein. Now if it said "vegan"…

              • @capslock janitor: That's fair, and I think different people would have different interpretations.

The problem is that it is perfectly reasonable to assume it is completely plant based, and so I'd say the label is somewhat misleading.

  • Has anyone out shopping during log down?

  • Not sure why woolies have put protein bars up so high, who wants to pay $3.50 for 25g of protein.
Musash high protein bars are now $5! servo pricing.

  • Tried the Banana Bread bar, tasted nothing like banana, absolutely horrible. Do yourself a favour and buy a real banana for the same price.
