Edifer R1855DB Active Speakers $153, R1700BT $119 + Delivery (Free with Club Catch) @ Catch

270

Excellent prices on these fantastic little bookshelf speakers.

The R1855DB are the newely upgraded model from the R1850DB, which are basically the R1700BT but with digital inputs and sub out. Compared to the 1280DBs these are biamped so should be a bit cleaner.

They are angled slightly up which will work well from a desk or a lower TV stand.

The R1855DB have coax/optical inputs, bluetooth 5, new remote design, sub out. The R1700BT are just bluetooth (4) and analog in and no sub out.

My plan is to have these connected to the TV in the spare room via optical, and connected to an old sub I have lying around.

Shipping for me was $9.95 to metro Sydney.

R1700BT available for the bargain price of $119 here: https://www.catch.com.au/product/edifier-r1700bt-bluetooth-b…

    Awesome price for excellent speakers.
I'd recommend getting some custom cut acoustic foam from Clark Rubber to use as isolation pads.

    • For the speakers to sit on? Any specific type of foam?

Anything will work, I think. You want foam dense enough that the speakers don't sink into it, but the point of the foam is to isolate the speakers from vibrations so it shouldn't be completely rigid.. Thicker is better, obviously

Before I got proper stands, adding a 40mm thick foam pad beneath each speaker completely changed the sound of the speakers on my desk, because the desk resonated and massively boosted volumes in some areas in the bass and low mids.

I used some heavy closed cell packing foam that came in the box for (I think) an amplifier, so I'm not sure what you'd buy to use yourself.

Well said! I also used foam from speaker packaging and it works excellent

        • If I'm not mistaken I believe most yoga blocks work pretty well too. Seen a few people using them in the past.

      • I'm also keen to know more. Please share your knowledge @jsediv!

        Something like this would work

      • I'm using a yoga block for each one and it works great.

  • Thanks OP! Grabbed a R1700BT. I actually have a R1010BT already that I bought from Amazon but after looking at a comparison with the R1700BT, I wanted the crisper sound. Can't wait.

Also don't forget: get 10% off with unidays (there's a thread where you can ask for 10% off codes from other members)

  • Picked this up. Hoping to see how better it is over my $40 standard two channel gigabyte speakers.

Btw they just updated the R1700BT with a timer. Ends in two days.

  • Hi OP pardon my ignorance, but just to confirm, is this pack of 2 speakers?

Got a set of R1855DB's for $129.44 with unidays plus Suncorp discounted GC's. Cracking deal.
