Clearing out old stock. The "E" series is just about to be released, the "D" series was last year, and this model is a "C" series from 2010. Plus, it's the entry level C-series plasma without 3D.

It's "internet TV/apps" is crap (I've got a C7000 plasma), they never updated it to work with the D-series apps. The "All-share" DLNA is pitiful as well.

However if you're just looking for a big, cheap screen and aren't concerned with energy usage or heat output, it's an ok deal.

I have no heater in my room, would be good for winter!

      • -1

i've got 2 of those at home and i'm really happy with them! DLNA/all share works perfectly, youtube app works well(i'm using the iphone app- much faster than the infrared remote)
        this is definitely a bargain!

this would have been a brilliant price it it was a led tv for this size

    • +4

That a joke? Plasma shits all over LCD (LED backlit aswell) especially in the big big TV's

    • +2

lol, LED tv, you mean LCD tv with LED backlight? They are crappy

  • +5

The "C" in the model number means it is a 2010 model . Still a very good price for a good TV .

Love Plasma. Still think Panasonic does the best Plasma TV!

    • +1

I have a 50 inch Samsung plasma and guess what I agree with you!

      • Same here. Have a Samsung P58C700 that had now packed it up after 14 months of mild labour. The quality on the equivalent Pana leave the Sammies for dead…..

      … and Pioneer did …

Yes, I agree Panasonic makes the best plasma TVs. You cant go past it's quality

OLED OLED will dominate in Q3-Q4 when it goes mainstream. (keyword: WHEN)

    • +1

dominate what? Certainly not OB as the other types will be cheap and considered a bargain.

    • Likely to be fairly expensive at first. Some good deals on traditional tech should be forthcoming.

    • …depending on price.

      Talk so far is US$6-7k for a 55" (Samsung/LG). I don't think most people will find that attractive vs $1500 for a 55" LED/LCD.

It'll probably be a couple of years before OLED gets significant market share.

Sony also have a new LED display that uses actual LEDs as display pixels, not just LED back-lighting for LCD, ie every pixel is a group of 3 LEDs. They had a demo unit at CES.

  • Would rather buy a D550 for $650, it has 3D and is a 2011 model. But it is only 51".

    • Where can you find a D550 for $650?

    • i have both of them, love them both but the d550 is "slower" than this one.
e.g. when you press menu for the first time the d550 menu takes more time to show up.
Also the d550 doesn't have internet tv/apps etc

  • yep thats it

    • No one is doing the D550 for $650 or even close. If you have details please pass them on, I would get one for that price!

      • It seems he wants us to get them to reduce the price from $898 to $650.

        Not likely :)

wrong. look on whirlpool they posted receipts on there a while ago, cant find the post now. think it was liverpool jb.

        • I'm not saying it never happened, I'm saying I don't think I can take those Internet receipts and use it to buy it for $650.

        • Nubzy just pulled that sum out of thin air. The lowest was Topbuy $699 + $43 delivery but they are out of stock.

        • no, look at this thread there is one receipt and another guy said he got it for $640 a few weeks ago.

          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1852852&p…

and pickup was offered for some of those $699 online deals.

        • -1

Do you know how many receipts there are floating around the Internet?

The trick rarely works, especially at this price difference.

Bought one of these almost two years ago and the guy wanted me to pay $800 extended warranty i said it wont be worth that in a few years and he said yeah right. well its not fare off it. Extended warranty is the biggest waste of money EVER!!!!!!!!!!

    • Not always, I brought my panasonic plasma from Harvey Norman in 08, paid an extra 150 on top for 4 years extended warranty, have had to have the tv fixed 3 times in that period. Without it is would have had to fork out and buy a new tv..

      • You never ever want to buy an extended warranty. You have a statutory warranty. Read this for more information-

        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1380186

        • -3

Your short summary of statutory warranty is wrong.

Its based on a lot of things like brand, how much you paid for it, and if its considered a premium product.

As well as the fact that some extended warranties are very cheap and are not worth the risk as statutory warranty can rarely be determined before purchase.

There is nothing that can guarantee how long the statutory warranty is for this particular TV and especially nothing to show that after 2 years and 11 months they will agree with you.

  • It's obvious enough that this is an old set due to the fact that it's only 58". All the new Samsungs are 59".
