Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO AX AMD AM4 WiFi 6 ATX Motherboard $179 + Delivery @ Shopping Express

240

Seems to be the lowest price at the moment, a few are selling it around $200 and more at $250 mark.

Was going for MSI Gaming Edge WiFi and both got reduced price today but this one came cheaper and reviews seem positive, ended up went for it.

This appears to be the WiFi version of the Pro V2, so other than the Wifi6 you also get an extra USB C connector for your front panel.

I have this board. Good VRM with a real heatsink on top, ram slots are metal reinforced. Audio is the newer ALC1220-VB. PCIx16 lock is a like a switch so doesn't jam (unlike my previous MSI). But 2 nuisances I've found so far. 1) Tried turning off secure boot in BIOS to install linux (turns out you don't need to). Once you turn it off, if you turn it back on it will flip back to off when you click Save & Reboot. The only way to fix this is to re-flash the BIOS. 2) Bluetooth will occasionally stop working. The only way to fix it is turn off & unplug the power cable, leave for a few minutes and turn it back on. Gigabyte support said this is fixed in latest BIOS (13f or 13h) but I haven't been able to verify.

I didn't encounter the bluetooth issue but I have the AC version. I just updated mine to the latest beta BIOS, f13m, and it fixed all the USB 2.0 drop outs which is really handy because this board is loaded with USB 2.0 (and 3.0) ports. I can definitely vouch for the VRM on this board too. I'm running a 5900X and the VRM barely even warms up, it has also handled a 3600CL14 overclock with 4 sticks of DDR4 first try (it could probably go further but I've never tried).

    • yeah, update your bios and bluetooth issue should be fixed.

    • I have the latest BIOS with this board and bluetooth still turns off after a few shut downs. Enable 'ERP' in the bios and this should resolve it. Going 2 weeks strong now!

Bluetooth dropouts and USB issues ?

    It's like 2002 all over again 😁

(I assume the Bluetooth chip is actually connected via the USB bus and so these two issues are actually one and the same ?)

    • USB issues aren't exclusive to this board but it seems to be mostly fixed for most B550/X570 boards with a recent BIOS.

According to the LTT tier list:
Tier S-: 250A current draw on little ambient airflow, maxed out 5900X and 3900X on liquid nitrogen (LN2) overclocking

According to this, you made the right choice being "S Tier". Only gripes "The is board as some nice specific features like a Thunderbolt 3 header that requires a 60 dollar + Add in Card. Lacks internal USB-C for Cases with USB-C. "

You/they are talking about the Aorus Pro (V1). The V2 version does add a internal USB-C and this Pro AX is based on the V2.

I didn't really pay attention wether or not they keep the thunderbolt as I will probably never need it. I did notice there was a USB-like port missing on the back panel, compare to the V1, maybe that's it?

I was confused for a while about the naming until I compared the 3 models on Gigabytes website.

  • https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/asus-tuf-gaming-b550-… not a bad deal either $189 at Umart. $139 at SE

    Also considered "S tier".

  • Upgraded my techfast order to this for $129. Seemed worthwhile. Yet to receive.

Really hope USB is truly fixed as the number of ports and wifi is why I went with this board/AMD.

    • Ive got the B550m Elite Aorus and USB seems fine, havent had disconnects so far. Just a note though I did flash the board with the latest bios (as my CPU wasnt supported out of the box)

  • Thanks OP, have shitty b450 tommahawk OG spec with cheaped out bios… should be nice upgrade.

    • Your board is decent compared to my B450 Aorus Pro. Your board has good vrm. Mine is stuffed. Do I buy this or wait for an X570 deal
