Afterpay Referral Problems

I used the random Afterpay referral exchange on OzBargain to sign up for Afterpay yesterday in order to get the $30 off my first transaction but when I purchased the item, I did not get any price reduction and when I complained to Afterpay about it, the customer service rep said "Please send us the email address of your friend who referred you so we can further investigate."

Of course I don't have that information as the referral code exchange does not provide that and in fact I didn't even bother writing down the referral code I was given by the OzBargain randomised exchange.

I've edited this post to remove any request for a referral with email address but I would strongly advise OzBargain to remove the referral code database for Afterpay to avoid other people experiencing the same problem I did.

  • You're not the only person to have this problem.

My suggestion would be to contact a moderator and see whether they can help you out.

  • This happened to me too when I purchased something in-store last week. They asked for the email address of the individual when I contacted Afterpay. However, I read the T&Cs more closely and it only applies to online purchases (not in-store).

Promotional discount amounts will be available for Afterpay purchases made by you or the Referred Customer (as applicable) online, and will not apply to any in-store purchases using the Afterpay service.

Perhaps you made an in-store purchase as well?

  • My order was cancelled by the seller and the payment was refunded, but not the $30 Afterpay credit.

But where is my $30 credit for referring Afterpay to my friend? Don't fin anywhere mentioning credit refund or how to handle it.

I shared my Afterpay referral link on the Ozbargain referral code exchange.
I received an email from Afterpay advised that I get $30 off my next purchase as someone used my referral link.   I made one purchase above $50 after that date, but I didn't get the $30 off.
I wrote an email to Afterpay support team asking the reason, they want me to provide a screenshot including the date and time that I sent my friend the link and provide the email address of the friend I referred.
Of course, I don't have that information as Ozbargain does not provide that.
Any people experiencing the same problem I did?

How do you know someone used your link?

I received an email from Afterpay “ Thanks for sharing Afterpay! Here’s $30 off your next Afterpay purchase.”

Oh I see. That's rubbish then :( If they won't honour it maybe ozbargain should take them off the referral program.

Appears this adds to problems experienced by referrer and referee

technically if you are Japanese you have dishonoured them

    • I'm thinking of a new company name and calling it CashUpFront. lol

Is it possible somebody used your referral link to buy something and cancelled their purchase?

        CashUpFront

Perfect for gumtree and would avoid a LOT of forum dramas

    • I dare say their policy says something along the lines of you can only refer people you know and not on a public forum

      • having said that, I have no idea how they detect it! Maybe it's only used when someone has to follow up on it

      • Did you read https://www.afterpay.com/en-AU/terms-of-service - all 8966 words? They have done a deal with Amazon and want your first born when they turn 5.

"Hi, I called my friend and read the link out over the phone for them".

    • I received an email from Afterpay “ Thanks for sharing Afterpay! Here’s $30 off your next Afterpay purchase.”

I received the same email from Afterpay and I know the exact person who used my code.

I asked the person and they said that the purchase is less than $50. so i believe there is an issue with Afterpay referral program/system. It shouldnt have sent out the email as it doesnt qualify all the requirements.

Notice the wording of the email

Now that your friend has made their first purchase, bla bla bla… Terms apply

      Referring to https://www.afterpay.com/en-AU/refer

      1. When your friend signs up, $30 will automatically be applied to their next Afterpay purchase of $50 or more.
      2. After your friend makes their first purchase of $50 or more, $30 will be added to your account and will automatically be applied to your next purchase.

You will get the $30 off when your friend makes their next purchase of $50 or more.

PS: The person who used your referral link was just happy with a $10 off using the AFTERPAY10 code on ebay.

      • The email sent by afterpay says “ your $30 off has been added to your account and will automatically be applied to your next purchase of $50 or more.”
So the person who used my referral link should have already made first purchase of $50 or more.

        • Yup as I mentioned earlier, it's an issue on Afterpay referral system. Your friend hasn't spend more than $50 yet, they have only made their first purchase.

    • Do you make the purchase online and from Australia store/website that charged in AUD?
