No messing about with deposits this time around just asking for full payment straight up! Interesting!

    • +1

I could only get mine delivered no in store pick up. Any one else get this?

  • +95

2014 chip, 720p, 25fps new Zelda gonna look awesome on that OLED… Almost the price of a digital PS5.

    • +8

Far out man… What the hell are they thinking. So pro is of the table then?

      • +5

        Will wait for Proled

      • +16

BotW never runs above 30fps. In fact it is locked at 30fps from the get go. Currently the only way to run BotW with more than 30fps is on an emulator.

People should get frustrated as this model almost guarantee that Nintendo has no plan on mid-gen upgrades, but wishing NS to live a decade and advance to next-gen console directly.

          • +32

@mr_me450: Congratulations. It takes a real dedicated fanboy/girl to justify selling a 2014 chip at over $500 in 2021.

Leave some cool aid for the rest of us.

            • +1

@PainToad: when they can sell the current version at $430, and there are a shortage of units and chips, the better way to get more profit is to change a screen or joycon and screeze the value!

          • +16

@mr_me450: You don't seem to know what you're talking about mate.

I've got a PS4Pro and PS5. Not only do all my PS4 games work seamlessly, they are all working faster and better, 1st party titles have already received a free performance patch from devs like Santa Monica and Insomniac to augment their titles to play at 4k60fps. On Day 1 my PS5 synced and was preloaded with all the games I already had on my PS4. That's being consumer friendly.

PS5 is perfectly backwards compatible with the thousands of games currently available on PS4's library, with the exception of 9 third party titles. The leap in technical specs just opens up further possibilities of native 4k60fps performance compared to the checkerbox 4k30fps native for the PS4s.

The OLED Switch isn't a hardware upgrade, it's a QoL update - so there's no sense in talking about 'backwards compatibility', it's the same damn console.

              • +7

@mr_me450: Aligning performance with a 7 year old chip to achieve consistency isn't a feature, it's a drawback.

Edit: I say this as a proud switch owner

              • +1

                @mr_me450: Wow, you've done a mental circus.

"4K 60fps, some 30fps, some different options. The experience is completely inconsistent."

Yes, different games have different experiences. You do realise that Nintendo Switch games run at different resolutions and at different frame rates from each other? 3DS had the original and New, New gave better performances to some games and only some games worked with it, no major issue. If you go back to 1990, Super Nintendo offered developers different resolutions for their games and developers had their games ran at different frames rates. This is literally how console games have played from the start, even the Atari 2600 (1977) had games with different resolutions and different frames rates.

"Backwards compatibility is a serious issue this gen"

What issue? XBox Series plays it's current gen games and XBox One games without issue, you stick in an 360 or Original XBox game, and if it works, great, if doesn't oh well, play it on the console you originally bought the disc for. Most popular XBox games work with higher resolutions and frame rates. PS5 plays it's own games and all (but 7) PS4 games, this is great for gamers. Nintendo are well known for selling old games at new prices, I owned the Nintendo Wii U, upgrading to the Switch for many years didn't seem appealing as Nintendo was just porting Wii U games to the Switch, great if you've never owned the Wii U, not so great if you did. Aren't we looking forward to Skyward Sword (2011)?

My PS5 doesn't have one PS5 disc game, what I have is a large bunch of PS4 disc games. I stick the disc in and they run better on the PS5 than on my PS4 Pro, sometimes with enhancements and sometimes with an upgrade to a PS5 version, if it has enhancements, great, I play it, if it doesn't, great, I am still playing a game I want too. Even my PS4 VR works on my PS5, so no big issue.

I'm a Nintendo fan since 1989 with the original Gameboy, doesn't make me able to see faults in a game company.

          • +4

@mr_me450: Lol never seen anyone swallow this much for a corporation on ozbargain before until now.

            • -6

@nomoneynoproblems: You obviously haven’t been looking too hard at all the posts promoting games added to paid subscription services as deals then I suppose.

    • -3

Sure. Maybe get a PS5 digital to play botw2. On the go.

      • +24

Nintendo have made the choice that you play the game with a old technology, giving you games with low resolutions at a less than ideal frame rate, at a high cost, and that is the complaint. The Switch's original release price was $469.95 in March 2017, 4 years later and they swap out the screen for an OLED, slap in an Ethernet port and charge you $70 more for essentially old tech. I'm sure most people wouldn't be happy with phone manufacturers if they did something similar, hey 4 year old phone with a new screen that we'll charge you more for! Nevermind they don't acknowledge the Joycon drift.

        • +1

That ethernet port is single-handedly going to save Nintendo Online. Haha

        • +1

they are selling their games rather than the console, the console is the only way to get their games. So this is called Monopoly and Nintindo knows very well how to play this game!

    • +8

Yeah it's pretty sad isn't it. Still no Bluetooth audio either, and the issue with joycon drifting that will never end. Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo decides to stop manufacturing the original soon and replacing it with this though, at a price increase over the original. #JustNintendoThings

    • +1

I'd be worried the day people stop complaining about Nintendo hardware specs.

    • +8

Nintendo continues to milk consumers with over priced hardware. Why is this a bargain? Officially giving up on them for this generation. I’ll stick with my Wii U.

Yes, I know Nintendo doesn’t give two shits what I think and are doing fine without me.

      • The Switch is an amazing console regardless.

  • Oh my God it's finally happening.

I sold my Switch just before E3 in anticipation (sold for $390)

    • +3

This is an identical spec inside. Not the rumoured 'Pro'.

    • +12

What chump did you find to buy it for that price?

      • +2

Lol a guy that lived in regional Victoria, on ebay.

        Guess he never discovered ozbargain.

I just did a quick search on the new switch… definitely not worth the hype hey

Edit: the switch I sold was the V2

      • +3

Im wondering if og switches with the exploit retain their value. Could be why he got so much.

        • +1

          For sure

        • +3

Weirdly enough not really. I guess people on Ebay don't understand or don't search it up right.

        • +2

If you can find one you can do well, I bought one for $250 with 4 games and some accessories. Kept the joycons, dock and pro controller. Sold the 4 games for $100 and sold the tablet for $400.

    • +1

You got lucky I sold mine with two games for $360

    • +4

If its the OG model then the "chump" that bought it would be the one winning here… they're quite limited and can be cracked

      • Hmm.. might sell mine then. Can't be bothered cracking anything and would be keen on a bigger screen.

      • +5

Yeah I have a launch model and they'll pry it from my cold dead hands. 60 FPS mods, emulators, modded saves etc is awesome

        • I love my launch model, it has a cooler screen colour temp wise. I bought a second switch, was still hackable, but the screen it had was much yellower/warmer, but I guess it can be pseudo HDR lol, gave that one to my bro, got a third switch made sure it had a cooler screen (yes still hackable).

But I don't use my switch much now, only for when I travel, getting eye strain on that tiny screen to be used regularly in handheld, and even then it is for first party nintendo games.

      • Interesting! How much are they worth? Can't seem to find the right keyword to search with on eBay.

        • Try « switch erista »

        • Look up unpatched or low serial

        • The people that have them usually don't know they're hackable. Just ask for serial numbers until you find one.

      • What's the V1 model worth these days?

        • The people that have them in general population usually have no idea. So it'll be as much as any other switch second hand = you and your luck.

  • Hmm, wonder how much EBGames trade-in for old model will be. They were actually pretty decent for the PS5 (40% off with PS4 Pro).

    • How do you transfer saves if you do a swap?

    • And next year you are going to trade this oled to the real pro model again.

      • Probably. Especially if we can finally fly internationally again…

    • +1

My guess would be $299 with the trade in.

      • Spot on! Just announced $299 with trade-in. That’s too much and not really worth it.

  • +14

Wow, getting my tech news from OZB!

    Edit. No power gains…GG

  • +32

$539? Ridiculous RRP given no processor enhancements. Nintendo gonna Nintendo - but good on them, they can charge a premium and people will pay it.

    • Apparently extra storage and OLED are expensive as people expected. Kind of makes sense why it only appears now, instead of 4 years ago.

Never mind, there will be plenty of people willing to pay for the premium. The upgrades cannot justify the extra cost certainly but you just can’t say it’s not a meaningful step up, isn’t it?

  • So is the only difference the OLED and increased storage?

    • +4

Kickstand and LAN jack in the new dock. It's Nintendo, what do you expect?

      • +1

I'm literally just asking. I have no expectations. I just wanted to know if there is any incentive for me to upgrade. I play my console docked most of the time so don't see much benefit in upgrading to this.

        • +3

It was more of a sarcastic comment of disappointment. No real reason to upgrade really.

      • +6

It's Nintendo, what do you expect?

It should at least come with a new hat.

Even Malibu Stacy gave us that upgrade.

    • +3

Built in lan adapter as well (joke that the OG Switch didn't have one).

    • +4

'Improved kickstand and LAN-connection in the dock'

So no, if you play docked on a solid Wi-Fi connection like me (plus a SD expansion-since-launch), no point to this.

Nintendo both met and crushed expectations from their fans. On. Point.

    • +1

has better speakers & the screen is a bit bigger 7" vs 6.2 but if you mainly play docked the difference is nothing except for storage/ethernet

  • +2

    Wait what

  • -5

My worried is that they will release the 4k upgrade when the new Zelda comes out in 1-2-3 years. Or maybe switch 2. I will be buying this as the missus wants my day one switch. Bloody Nintendo!

  • If you have a V2 this ain't worth it. Not unless you really play in hand-held mode a lot. Or you just really love sturdy kickstands. White dock looking kinda ugly too imo, will match the ps5 nicely though 🤔.

    • +3

Even with my V1 it's not really worth it surely? I rarely if ever play in handheld mode. I love the look of the white dock but that's just me.

      • +2

Dbrand is your friend there, get a white skin for your dock!

      • same here, not worth it.
would be interesting to see how much the "pro" would cost as the oled model is 539 already.

        • Surely they could go as high as $700 close to a series x.

  • -1

What's this Nintendo just released a new model? How could I don't know anything

    • +3

Well, "new" is a bit generous. It's got a slightly larger screen and a new kickstand, but otherwise its the same switch as the first and second ones.

      • ya, just did a quick google, not the "pro" we were expected.

  • -3

OMG, Still in stock!!! get in quick. CALLING ALL THE FLIPPERS

    • Highly doubt this will be the console for flippers… marginal upgrade as is… I wouldn't be worried about this one…

      • +4

You underestimate the power the words "new" and "in limited supply" have on people.

  • Would have pre-order (based on the stock level of the PS5/XBX), but JB Hi-Fi is asking for full payment upfront…

  • They are holding out about the cpu, it is going to have to be a new one as rumoured, because from september their current switch one will stop being made. Maybe they'll sneakily put it in all new switches from that point?

  • +18

God damn it. I happen to be awake and here on OzBargain at the right place at the right time to see these preorders go live and have the best chance of being one of the first people in the country to buy one…

… and it's incredibly expensive and has the same innards as my 4y4m old model?

EDIT: I'm going to neg this deal because it is overpriced for ancient hardware, for the "bargain" being RRP and for JB Hi-Fi's requirement for you to pay in full to preorder.

Full disclosure: I am a Nintendo fan.

    • +1

Yep also a Nintendo fan and this price is ridiculous … i've got the original switch which i got from prime lighting sale (back when they also had cashbacks) .. i think it cost me $290 … in my house its the most used console by far (and mainly docked so the OLED screen is moot point for me) but no way id pay this price for one… even if it was a switch pro i'd be hesitant let alone same thing from 4 years ago with a better screen…

    • Completely agree, the real bargain will be in (second-hand) OG models now.
