    Are you able to explain what you would want dry contacts for?

      Dry contacts don't feed power to the attached device. They're good for making control switches/pushbuttons smart. If you've got something like a mechanical button to trigger a garage door, then you could replace that with a smart device with dry contacts.

      some devices are powered/operated on different voltages.

      this particular one takes 110-240VAC OR 24-60VDC. If you happen to have a 240VAC power source but are trying to switch a garage door that uses 24VDC then you'd need one with dry contacts. It also means that the supply to the shelly needs to be able to provide power to the downstream device

      this all makes sense as it has an integrated power meter that wouldn't work if you had dry contacts

      it's also possible that you want to use the contact as an input to another device, rather than directly switching power. you could leave less cable energised when its not in use

      Hi There,

      This RRP is our list price for the product in Australia. We have set it up when we first become the distributor for Shelly in Australia.

      You can buy from Shelly direct but you would also have to register with Erac as an approved importer for RCM products and ensure place the RCM sticker on the device depending on the product, not all products come with stickers from the factory we put them on in Australia.

      Every protocol has its pros and cons!

      But being open source and built on WiFi is a great benefit for Shelly - it means that if a new protocol comes out (e.g. thread), new firmware can be pushed to the device!

      With many of the big names backing thread and Zigbee, z-wave will have some strong competition over the next few years but will probably always maintain a core of supporters.

    Anyone got reviews for these? I currently have Nue ZigBee wall switches and want to move to this for a new build.

      Why move to wifi over ZigBee? I'm trying to work out what to do with my future home automation setup. Was thinking ZigBee all the way because I'm already invested in Smartthings and I get worried that too many wifi devices will crash my home wifi.

        That's why I'm hesitant to go to wifi but the the aesthetic of these with iconic switches would be better. The other option I'm looking at would be stitchy but I can't seem to find much information about them.

          Get a unifi network by ubiqutiand you will be sweet.

          I’ve got 50+ WiFi devices now and it runs a treat.

          I even stream ip cams to tablets and phones 24/7 without issue

      I’ve done a heap of research and decided to go with Shelly’s behind an Iconic switch in a new build also. They are very well regarded in the home automation scene, can be run locally (removing cloud use) and are cheap compared to other options and their app is fantastic.

          Our build isn't completed yet but it's likely going to come down how many devices you have connecting over Wifi and the hardware you're using but I haven't come across anyone in all my research that had issues.

    Where are the details on the homekit computability? are they natively supported (orhers I've seen for sale have the homekit qr codes on the base, its absent in your photos)

      Home kit is not supported natively but there is firmware that can be flashed quite easily to make these home kit compatible.

    Hey keen on understanding if there is native Smartthings integration or whether a custom device handler is needed? Are these easy to install for any electrician? Also how is initial pairing conducted? Do you need physical access to the box?

      Shelly is supported natively. Any good electrician will have no trouble installing - the installation process is quite simply. Initial pairing is done via the Shelly app. The Shelly module will create an access point once powered up, so once installed, you do not need physical access to it.

          The Shelly 2.5 requires an active and neutral. Earth is not required.

      These can be used behind power points however most GPOs in Australia have only one line coming in so it is not possible to make both outlets individually controllable.

        I am mostly interested in power monitoring the GPOs. Would you recommend an alternative product better suited?

        Do you have any devices that can be connected at the meter box to measure overall electricity usage? I do have solar if that matters.

    Can anyone recommend an installer in Melbourne? Will probably have to go with the Shelly units that don't need neutral lines
