CNET review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXIQpVdxsas

There have been quite a bit of TV deals in the past 2 weeks, but LED of this size and of a quality brand has been scarce.

Been using OzBargin for about 2 month. Found it quite valuable so I have decided to contribute and help it grow.

Choice magazine recommended this TV, this is their summary:

    Good points:
    • Very good score for Blu-ray viewing.
    • Very good score for game console viewing.
    • Very good score for HD broadcast viewing.
    • Very good score for viewing angles.
    • Very good score for still photos viewing.

    Bad points:
    • On-board controls are on the back of the TV.
    • Remote control has some very small keys.
    • High sound volumes produce distortion at about 60% and higher.
    • No channel favourites function.

    • It is too cheap in Australia. In India it is priced around AUD 1325 (INR 68900) to expensive.
Now I regret that I would have bought it in Melbourne during my recent stay and brought to India as personal used item. I am jealous.

Good find. BTW I'm sure you can get it at JB for $600.

    Personally, I'd get this
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/63567

because of 100Hz over 50 Hz
3D doesn't mean anything to me
but getting a 3D TV with 100Hz for extra $20 (you'll have to settle with $670 I think no JB seems to be able to price match $621)

    Just saying

    • Where are you getting this figure of $670 from?

    • if you haggle in stores, its not a big issue at JB. I am not sure about online with the free shipping however.

That LG tv is indeed a step above but no one seems to be able to get it for that 621 price.
I would speculate that it won't go for under $700 as nearest online competitor is at $800.

Lastly, modern TVs are better with motion blur at 50hz than 2 years ago. 100hz still stands as ideal but it ain't the deal breaker many still believe. Could call it the dogma of cheap tvs these days.

    • difference in quality between LG and Sony is pretty big though, ive seen some dodgy LG pannels in my time…

    • I agree. I wouldn't buy a 50hz tele personally.

www.bigbrownbox.com.au now have the LG 42LW5700 for $619 with Free shipping to certain areas(check on website)

    • Please post this as separate deal! I got the non 3D version for $699 a while ago and it was a steal, that price is unbelievable…

    • Sold out. Gah I wasted time calling JB HiFi to pricematch, idiot.

    • I dont even see that model on the website :(

  • I was in BigW Charlestown Sq (NSW) yesterday & they had a shitload of Plasma, LED & LCDs of various denominations & sizes (including the PS3 bundle) at significant reductions, if any Newcastle folk are interested or others want to check their local store or online. IIRC these were $548. Best value for money IMHO though was the Pana FHD 42" Plasma @$498, I played with the demo a bit, beautiful TV for under $500!!!

I'd have posted it but I honestly thought someone would have beaten me to it & there were just too many sets to take photos, plus I'm awfully lazy! ;)

  • Its been mentioned to me by a few people that certain models of SOny Bravia cannot play all types of movies, such as AVI, off a memory stick or HDD. Is this true and if so, does this model have that problem?

Update: just googled and found people complaining about the AVI issue on various other models and someone saying it has to be mpeg-1 (old post)

    • wonder how this model plays, and if it plays over wifi… that would be pretty cool.

  • I heard some of these bravia tv's dont play mkv.
I recommend getting a non sony bluray player with mkv support.

    • The biggest gripe that I have with Sony TVs is its incapability to play many formats.

My Samsung TV can play almost every format (even rmvbs) that I throw at it.

    • That is the older CCFL or "non-LED" backlight model. Worse in every sense.

      • Ok thanks.

      • Nope, sorry, better sound and picture quality, but less energy efficient. Choice magazine named the KDL40CX520 the best current TV in that size range just two weeks ago.

        • I actually have the 46" of that LCD tv.
From what I have seen, the LED version seemed to be more vibrant and easy on the eye.
With that said, CCFL backlighting do provide a higher colour gamut. Though who cares about that on a consumer TV? As long as its pleasing to the eye.

I am not a professional in this field nor do I have a colour tuner to tune my TV with.
It is based on my bias opinion only. Take that however you may

I just realised that LED not LCD!! That's an awesome price for the LED version! I bought the LCD version for $529 just a couple of months ago, and I thought that was a real bargain.

    • +2

erm LED tvs are LCDs, LEDs are whats used for the back lighting…(LEDs vs CCFL - both LCD panels.)

  • I bought this one from JB HiFi for 550$. I paid 30$ more for extended warranty.
You can ask them and I am sure they would easily price match it.

    • post receipt please! (pics or it didnt happen!)

if you did it would deserve a post of its own!
