Nothing wrong with wall mount service… just don't buy anything from them

    • +3

I heard that their HDMI cables are good value.

      • +2

if they are not using gold plated contact. then im not interested. because we all know gold makes the 0s and 1s travel faster.

77" C1 or 85" Samsung Neo QLED, which one is better if price not a factor?

    • +6

      VERY different TVs

      Samsung QLed
      - no burn in risk
      - Brighter
      - bigger

      C1
Dolby vision (Samsung only support HDR10)
Depending on the content, better contrast.
Way lighter if you want to put it on on a full motion bracket or easier mounting in general (sometimes overlooked)
No possibility of Dirty Screen Effect

      Both TVs
4K 120hz + adaptive sync (OLED is the winner tho)
Decent viewing angles (Samsung include an additional layer on their VA panel, only for the 85", 75" and under are IPS, OLED still winner here tho)

    • +6

If you are a gamer in any way, the 77C1 is the better tv hands down. 4K/120fps Dolby vision gaming, VRR, gsync, freesync Premium, 4 hdmi 2.1 ports, allm. And thats just gaming features. The oled is also a far better picture.

    • -4

Neither is clearly better. Image-wise the LG will look slightly better, but the Samsung can get much brighter so if you regularly watch in a bright room I’d probably advise getting the Samsung.

      • +6

I would say the OLED is far more than just "slightly" better in terms of picture quality. Agree with the brightness point though - OLEDs are pretty crap when there's even small to moderate amounts of outdoor light coming in. Glare / reflection city.

        • -3

Have you actually looked at the 2021 Neo QLED next to an OLED? The difference really isn't that big, especially in a room that isn't totally dark. I personally own an OLED and have sneered at comparisons to previous Samsung's, but I was very impressed with the latest top of the line QLED.

          • @Franckel: Unpopular opinion as it may be, I thought the same thing when I spent some time in JB a few weeks ago comparing them. I really liked the OLEDs for sure, but the QLEDs from Samsung (and to a slightly lesser extent Sony) stacked up quite well in my viewing.

Given the QLEDs were basically the same price I'd still go with the OLED though.

      • +5

The brightest figures are misleading, Samsung dims the brightness to control blooming so in most scenes the OLED looks just as bright due to better contrast.

        • +2

This! The local dimming in Samsungs is very aggressive so in some dark scenes the OLED is perceptibly brighter. Own both 75" Q80T for the living room and a 77" C1 for the theatre, I'm rather unimpressed when using the Q80T now, only using it for news which is the most burn-in prone content.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: I'm sorry, but this comment is kind of irrelevant. The original commenter referenced two specific models, so I'm not sure why you used an older, lower tier Samsung as a basis for the newer, top of the line Samsung's performance.

I own an OLED TV and have laughed at comparisons with older Samsungs, but the 2021 Neo QLED is very impressive and is almost as good as the C1 OLED even in a dark room, and in a bright room I would easily pick the Samsung.

        • Not most scenes, only darker scenes when it needs to control blooming. Like brighter highlights against a black background

    • +1

I had the same dilemma and was considering the 85QN85A for 5.2k vs 77 CX (basically same as the C1) for 5.5k.
In the end went with the Samsung as I prefer the bigger size and no need to worry about burn in.

    • +3

There will be a fair degree of personal preference in this decision, but in general the key differentiators are:

The OLED has significantly better picture quality - easily market-leading (OLED as a category, rather than LG specifically). True blacks, amazing (infinite) contrast ratio, fast refresh rate, excellent colours (and colour accuracy out of the box). Also definitely the better of the two TVs for gaming.

The Samsung option will obviously give you a larger screen, and is brighter (as almost all LEDs are vs OLEDs). The latter giving better HDR highlights, and generally important if the room its going in is very bright (although personally I think this is overstated - my OLED is in a bright room and it doesn't bother me). No burn-in risk either, although this is really overstated nowadays - unless you're leaving static content on the screen for hours a day, every day, you won't have burn-in issues with OLED.

For me, making essentially the same choice recently, OLED was clearly the better option and I couldn't be happier with my C1 77". Once you've experienced the PQ/true blacks of OLED it's hard to step back to anything else. I'd love it if it was 85" rather than 77", but 77" is still huge. But - your mileage may vary!

Also: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-c1-oled-vs-samsun… (assuming that's the Samsung you're looking at)

    • Bright room - QLED.
Dark room or mostly night time viewing - OLED.

I got a QLED after seeing it next to a C1 in the shop. Glare was atrocious on the C1 and not as bright. My TV is in a room with 3 windows. Have kids so burn-in was also a concern as it stays on the same channel for hours on end.

Paid much much less than this for a QN85A 85" delivered at EOFY.

  • Would still wait, got quoted this a few weeks ago and it includes shipping, surely it'll just keep dropping https://ibb.co/5GCGpGM

  • What's up with the wall mount service?

  • I've got an 55" OLED from 2016 (forgot the model). Would one of these new CX model provide noticeably better picture quality?

    • There's minor improvements in brightness from the 7, 8 and 9 series, but the primary benefit of a newer one is 120Hz with HDMI 2.1

    • OLED haven't had much improvement with picture quality over the years, same with any TV. Things like motion, colours, brightness have slight improvements. You won't be able to tell most of the time. Only upgrade your TV if you are going up in size

$675 shipping to regional city in WA……. Laughable…. unless you were seriously looking at buying one

    • Yep same for me and I'm only 1.5 hours from Adelaide in SA…

    • Delivery was $55 to Yokine. There is a second hand 77GX for under 5 K on FB marketplace, but it is in Perth.
How far are you from 6000?

  • +1

    Cant afford :(

I couldn't afford the box it comes in!

    Don't you love it?
You spend $5995 and they still charge a delivery fee. 😂

Comes up as $1000 for delivery for me, lol

How's the weather in Wagga Wagga this time of year?

  • Ridiculous.

    Cmon my crypto!

  • +6

Please don't anyone take this as a dig, and of course people are welcome to spend their hard earned and saved cash however they want. Everyone has something they strive for and different priorities.

But as a percentage, I'm amazed how many people can spend $6000 on a tv (of course I'd love to as well). I know ozbargainers aren't the standard cross section of society, but it feels like a lot of people get the larger versions.

I too have this thought - good luck to all, but I often watch in amazeballs on comments - like "My 3090 works well on the 65" 2021 OLED model over the 2019, as well as my PS5 and XBOX X." ….man if I dropped $8k+ on tech — my wife would kill me!

Anyway - good luck and peace out!

      • +5

To give another perspective, I’d rather spend 8K on tech (not necessary the same items) than on travel overseas, which was not uncommon before COVID.

        • +1

Ahhh very true - the priorities have changed somewhat…..

        • +1

for me personally. i could travel for 2 weeks. then its over. alternatively. i could buy a tv that could serve me for at least 5 years. i mean sure if i can do both. then why not right. but if i had to choose i would prefer to buy the TV.

and this was a thought in my head even before the pandemic.

        • So you'd still spend 8k on a TV rather than travel pre or post covid?

          • @FocusRider: you can do both with payment plans? :)

            • @WhatsTheBigDeal: Not to have a dig at anyone. I rather personally not to have to take out a loan to go on holiday.

          • +1

@FocusRider: It's called preferences and priorities. Our preference and priorities differ. Neither is better than the other. All depends on the individual and their circumstances.

            • @xoom: Yes true me neither for a holiday (haven’t so far), but just like I would finance a car so I can use it while paying it monthly, I would do the same for a 4-5k worth tv (zip money for eg) which will probably be the next expensive item in my home after the car. I would even get it included in content insurance.
But that’s it for at least 5+ years I would not go back looking to upgrade it which is the same for my car.
Agreed that’s my personal preference and everyone’s differ :)

I just dumped $3500 on an OLED and iPad Pro which was nuts for me.

Both will be claimed on tax because I legitimately use them for work. But yeah.

Some people have $ to burn. One guy on a forum cancelled his eye watering top of the line iPad Pro 12.9 2TB order which he got at a discount and ordered from Apple so he could get it quicker. Sacrificed $400 saving to get it a few weeks earlier. And he wasn't even desperate.

Madness. I think the same way about people that upgrade TVs and phones as new models come out. I think they're addicted to new toys.

        • Could you elaborate a bit more on how you plan to claim the OLED TV for work (unless it's <= 55" in which case you can use as a monitor)?

    • +1

I have previously contemplated spending 3.5k on a c7 65 or such. now i am told a 99" is the minimum for my coach distance

      • Why do you have to be 99 inches away from people you're coaching?

        • I couch Esports

    • I did spend that amount on the Panasonic plasma when it first was released here almost 20 years ago. That was 42 inch lol. Wouldn't spend anywhere near that these days.

    • +1

The first half of your question answers the second. Why a question even needs to be asked these days i do not know considering the trends on social media etc, kids/people spend this amount on a pair of shoes and renting out lambos per week. An oled TV can be used for many different things and can potentially last a very long time if looked after correctly

I got back from a 5 country trip, January 2020. I have been to 48 countries. Love travel. Adore it, but with Delta and the next strains looming, I don't see any trips for 2 years… If things ever get back to normal…
So spending 5.5K on a TV that I can edit photos, watch movies and enjoy is a valid spend.
Did I ever imagine I'd drop 5.5K on a Telly? Noooooo.
Then again I didn't think that a virus would turn planet earth upside down.
I'm not doing the buyer's remorse thing on my 77C1. I'm surprisingly comfy with my purchase.

  • Oh boy - It's now tipped under my 'pull the trigger' price range…and much sooner than I was expecting! :D

And works out to be free delivery (metro) if you click through Cash Rewards or Shopback.

    • coupon code = no cash back I think?

      • Correct.

      • oh…:/

    • No cashback using a promo code or voucher. Can get 3% cashback on gift cards though up to $1500.

Hopefully the 83” will be under $8K soon

    • Harveys is willing to do 83inch for 8k

      • should also mention the 83inch Sony A90J is now listed @ $9995 on the retailers, be interesting to see what pricing looks like on this one, menu seems much quicker than the C1, plus you get an EVO brighter oled panel

Managed to call TGG store and got the LG G1 77 inch for $7055 which incuded 5 year concierge warranty as well as delivery at the time I could specify….In short the warranty is $648 and covers everything including burn in, TV $6352 for the G1 77 inch, delivery $55

Good price I think and stoked I got the warranty considering the nasty price on this one and worth it for me for piece of mind compared to the 1 year. If someone comes out to repair it…you're already down a few hundred just on a call out fee. Hope this helps….

    • +4

Under ACL, you can get it repaired/replaced for free for more than 5 years directly from LG. Lots of folks here have done that with 5-8 year old TVs as well depending on amount spent I guess.

      • Yeah I did quite a bit of research and I do have the 2016 LG 55 inch oled with burn in noticed Jan this year. I know you MAY be ok with aus consumer law but the amount of stress…I'm just thinking I was happy with the price for the G1….still very expensive and I know I pushe more on the price because of the extended warranty. Anyway, sometimes I feel time is more valuable then all the trouble of post warranty repairs and fights in court. Each to their own!

        • +6

It's not going to burn in. OLEDs have got way better in reducing chance of burn in to almost nil in the last 5 years

          • @steve84: Even with burn in I love my 55 inch……This new one will be a beast!

            • @christoz: Could you please share your receipt for price match purpose?

      • May i know how? I've got a samsung fridge (around only 1k that time) thats having a leak and ice built, and they refused to fix as its almost 5 years. A bit of googling and it seems a common issue of samsung fridge

      • How? when the product comes with only 1 year manufacture warranty. Unless you pay extra for 5 year coverage like concierge etc.

      • That varies so much depending on the TV and person and what issues you have with it. LG have just given a 5 year warranty only for the G1 models. Problem is you still have to pay for labour costs after the first year. So its pointless anyway.

    • Similar boat as you , got slight reduction as same night I paid TGG did a 10% after dark promo. Now trying to use the 30 day price beat that comes with gold service to get price beat. You maybe able to do same.

  • +2

    Seems like a bargain !
