Big Brown Box: LG 42" Cinema 3D LED TV 42LW5700 for $619 Delivered

140

Just bought one. Was out of stock an hour ago but now its 'Available" which means

"This item is currently on order and will be arriving into your local BigBrownBox warehouse shortly or is in stock in another state. Please call 1300 369 265 to confirm availability .You may select your own delivery date during checkout. Please allow the appropriate lead time as discussed with a member of BigBrownBox.com.au"

I have the 47 inch version already and it's great. The build and picture quality is amazing.

It already comes with 3 years warranty but you can also add 2 years extended warranty for $63 which sounds like good value.

My kingdom for an LG 47" LCD… near impossible to find!!

  • This post intentionally left blank.

  • Unfortunately we are out of stock of the LG 42LW5700 in all of our Warehouses. To check if we do have stock of a specific item in a Warehouse that is nearest to you, enter your postcode in the field on the product page which will tell you if it is in stock.

  • This seems like a good tv for this price but i heard there is no dts and flash support. For the flash support issue can i just use my own browser to watch flash videos or that can't work either way and with the DTS sound does it mean it won't play surround sound properly?

  • what does this mean it's out of stock then we can't buy or order this tv as it not on stock or will it be backordered if you do decide to buy.

    • It's now out of stock.

  • what about reducing the price for us on the LG 42LW6500

  • Missed out :(

  • It is interesting that BIGBROWNBOX sold out so quickly. I put it you, that with very little stock in the first place, BIGBROWNBOX saw an opportunity to get a bit of free publicity. It was a small price to pay, if BIGBROWN BOX had to sell say ten at this price, for the potential goodwill they received. JBHIFI was clearly in distress over the price. There was much to lose, if JBHIFI had to sell thousands for this price. LG may have more stock, so if BIGBROWNBOX is making a genuine offer, they may take an order from you at $619 delivered. Or was this just a stunt, on behalf of BIGBROWNBOG? edit, sorry box.

Unless orange123 is a BBB stooge, I doubt it.

      • It wasn't a stunt by them.

A BBB employee told me that LG told them to sell those tvs at that price and clear out the old stock for the new LG stock.

        • You got one, someone else didn't. The rest doesn't matter.

        • I love this quote: "A BBB employee told me…". So therefore it must be right. Now let's break this down: you allege that LG told a retailer what to sell the product for. I doubt this, since it is illegal and may expose LG to fines. Old stock needed to be cleared out - yes I can believe that. However, if LG still has stock of the 42LW5700 and BBB refuses to honour their offer of $619, then I suggest that the $619 price was just a stunt. There was never an intention to supply reasonable numbers of these tvs to the market. BBB may be taking advantage of the transparency of online forums to damage JBHIFI.

So if a retailer lowers a price as a clearly marked special they must honour that price forever or it's a stunt?

It's ok to be disappointed to miss out, but why the anger? Is it not reasonable to clear out stock with a special price, then when the stock is cleared say sold out? How is that a stunt? Where did BBB say we've got 100s of TVs to sell, their rep didn't post it was a buyer.

  • is it true that when you disconnect power to the unit the settings are reset and it must scan for channels etc again? hope this is just a rumor

    • I have this TV and have not noticed that. The other day, my place lost all power in a thunderstorm for a few hours and when it came back on all the channels and settings were remembered. The time was the only thing I found I had to reset which was less then a minutes work.

    • Element where did you get this "rumor"???

I have never heard of a LG TV ever doing this…

  • Not a stunt? Do the the maths. If you count from when the offer was listed, to when it was pulled, 31 minutes had elapsed. The price was $2 under the price that JBHIFI had refused to honour. If it smells like a stunt, looks like a stunt, then in my books, it is a stunt. I put it you, that any other opinion is just naive.

    • It was first noted by gilmour on 15/02/2012 - 02:06 on http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/63567, this was posted by orange123 on 15/02/2012 - 09:09. A full 7 hours elapsed from when it was first listed, to when it was sold out. You are also suggesting that an Ozbargain post indicates the official start of a sale- it might have gone for many more hours undetected by Ozbargain folk, but happily snatched up by other Internet using Australians.

I also note it is $2 less than the JB HiFi price but including delivery to metro, which is $55 at most JB HiFis so a saving of $57- significant.

I still don't understand the criticism- if the BBB rep did not post this bargain, where is the stunt?
