I've never quite understood why the heck would you go to these places (Gloria Jeans, Coffee Club etc) when you can probably get a better coffee for the same price from an independent place the same shopping centre/down the road.

    • Safe to say that this community is drawn to free things? If that independent place had a loyalty program with a free drink or two, I'm sure OzB would be hitting it up too. Personally, I'll only be visiting GJ for my free drinks and that is all!

Literally every single independent coffee shop I've been to has some form of loyalty program.

        • Good to know :)

    • +2

Agree. Major chain coffee tends to be less flavoursome and uninspiring IMO. Even if it was free I’d still be disappointed so I’ll just avoid. Like other posters have said, most independent cafes and coffee shops have their own loyalty program with the 6th or 10th drink free, usually by stamping a card with no need to hand over your personal details.

      • that's why i don't bother with their coffee and only get iced teas or smoothies.

    owned by a cult. downvote

    • Oh, whixh cult

    • LOL this guy living in the past.

    Is Gloria Jeans still around?

    • There’s one at Southern Cross Station. It’s always busy, as is the Starbucks about 50m away from it.

They both operate as Melbourne tourist traps.

      • Ha. I was there last week and didn’t notice it. I’ve had coffee from that Starbucks but it was not good. Like really not good. GJ is pretty bad too, can only manage it with a flavoured syrup

I'm surprised Hillsong clowns don't put kool aid in their coffees

  • you're better off getting Levi's jeans

Went to claim my bday coffee last year and they just said "we don't do that here"..
This was the one near Central station in Sydney

    • Did they at least wish u a happy birthday?

  • Damm my bday was last month too 😐

Went to claim my free coffee 2 months ago and the guy fumbled around looking for excuses and finally told me he doesn’t do it at his store, so I had no choice but to drive off - it was a drive through store.

Went to the next GJ, and the lady said I needed to buy a $8 slice of cake to get it, I refused and told her that’s not right, then she tried the you need to buy a upgrade to get the offer. I refused again and she begrudgingly made me a free coffee as per the app. Coffee was crap. Experience both times was terrible.

Meanwhile the 3 free coffees at Coffee Club has been brilliant. Coffee is 10/10. Staff are lovely.

    • Yeah coffee club was good! They also didnt charge for speciality milk like other companies do with free coffee offer

  • +1

These mobs are not worth the effort guys, shitty attitude and then you might not even get the coffee, at least I didn't

    • Just curious where u get good coffee

I been to many independents but for some reason like krispy kreme the most (more than independents)

I think most ozb will just say the best is make it yourself lol

      • Loved The Coffee Club's mocha.

        • Yes the CC mocha was good. The fact that it was free probably affected my tastebuds though lol

      • The ozb way is 7/11 coffee. It's probably the only coffee where the taste:cost ratio is perfect.

        • Isnt 7/11 coffee $2 for a small now?

I remember it used to be $1

I think that happened at Coles express aswell

  • Birthday on Monday. Hopefully I can get the drink!

  • i got my birthday drink, and then the voucher for the new sign-up also disappeared!

  • They better reply here with a good explanation.
I don't mind their coffee from the one in SA at TeaTreePlaza. But why would I down load the app ?.

  • Once upon a time, GC was actually a nice place to get a coffee. A few years back, they changed the beans and in my opinion, went downhill and fast. I have noticed that a big chunk of stores have closed. I used the last of my points and deleted the app. Pity, as they were good.

    • I find usually independent cafes are better? What u reckons good?

      • In general, I agree that independent cafes are better however, there is the odd occasion.

With Gloria Jeans, I really enjoyed their Very Vanilla Latte that nobody was able to replicate. Having said that, at times some of the stores use to stuff it up and get the mixture totally wrong.

I rate the barista in the Virgin Lounge better than GJ at this stage.

  • Can I get ice chocolate after tree sign up?

  • They don't deserve this 6 monthly free marketing.

If the CEO of hungry jacks is now interim CEO of dominos then Gloria jeans is on its way out, once the next wave of ai hits Gloria can sing no more, as stored keep closing up.

  • Sadly my local Gloria Jean's has just been shut down. Having good time 30%-50% off while it lasted. They got plenty of custmers on some other days. And some other days they closed the shop 1-2 hours early. Staff were okay but lack of enthusiasm a bit. Milk tea shops will replace them for sure.

  • Is there anything worse than a church-run mid-tier coffee shop that is scheming to deprive you of your free birthday coffee?

  • -1

Sorry our system is down at the moment, we are unable to process vouchers. What coffee would you like? (at normal price)
