Are these good to play rock music?

    • +11

Fully endorsed by Dwayne Johnson, I believe

    • +14

Best when listening to the Rolling Stones

      • You may want to be stoned for the best effect!

    • oh, the wit!

actually missed the pun until a few seconds after!

      love it

  • -8

At this RRP and even at this sale price, should be Bluetooth or WiFi, which it isn't.

It's only a 6.5" woofer which will definitely not give the buyer the low bass they would expect being RRP $399.

    No deal.

    • +8

Yeah the RRP is BS, but a $99 5-year outdoor rated speaker is actually very good.
In AU, where humidity is king, getting 5 years out of speakers that aren't under-cover is a rarity. Just try listening to speakers at a local theme park and you'll hear how they suffer ><

    • Uses 3.5 jack ?

  • Any idea of the legal requirements (if any) for running the wiring to these?

    • +2

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm working off memory.
But I believe since it doesn't carry above 100v AC nor over 5v DC (and doesn't connect to a telecommunications network, nor mains), it's a non-regulated thing.

  • can't find any video reviews on how they sound

    • +3

      It's a 6" Qacoustics. It'll sound 'fine'.
You want sport all around your pool? You want nice moderate listening while you garden? You want to inject artificial wildlife sounds into your yard?
      These will fit the bill.

If you're looking for 'quality', you'll be better off getting any decent floorstanding speaker, and a weaterproof cover; just remove the cover when you want to use them.

Never look at video reviews for speakers; they're completely flawed in every sense; because the mic, and then your current speakers, are both destroying any 'example' they provide.

      • +2

        thanks for that.

Regarding the video reviews, i'll be more guided by the comments of the reviewer, and making a judgement as to their credibility (on past video reviews) of products that I have first hand experience with.

But even with that, couldn't find any reviews on youtube of anyone (let alone credible tech/audio reviewers).

Might skip on these and just use a portable bluetooth when i want to listen to music outdoors, rather than having a permanent solution like this one.

  • +2

I always wanted to have a pet rock that doubled as a speaker.

    • I wanted a pet speaker that doubled as a rock

  • -1

Nice idea for a permanent outdoor solution, but I believe these require a wired source don't they? No bluetooth?

    • No, bluetooth is a feature of an amplifier or receiver, not of a speaker.

You need to connect these to your amp.

    • So I have an OZBargain question here. This comment was downvoted. WHy? it seems like a genuine question.

      What am I missing?

      • Seems very noob that's why. It's like saying I need to buy a fridge but do I need to plug it in?

        • +1

But maybe the person is a noob and asking a genuine question. I still don't get why the downvote. I didn't see it as downvote worthy. Any way thank you for answering my question.

          • @OhPee: People like to get on their high horse and gate keep a little too much around here sometimes…

      • Its asking about somewhat related; but obviously different technology is why.

Like a fridge and microwave are both whitegoods, but can my fridge cook?

Sure, they could be noob, which is fine, but they've also asked a very specific technological question.

Speakers do not contain amplifiers; they're different technologies.
But, with that, lots of people mislabeled bluetooth aio systems as "speakers" so, that would be OK.

But the bigger issue, is they ask if it has bluetooth.
I mean, for arguments sake, if we were to say "yes" how is that helpful?
A bluetooth receiver without an amp, is still useless.

        Anyway.

OzBargain is ultimately a little bit harsh; yes.
However, most people here also dont suffer fools well; so the lack of a quick google about what a speaker is, vs what an amplifier is, vs what a bluetooth module is; will upset people. Because they're here to find bargains, not give electronics lessons.

  • +1

can these be daisy chained or does each speaker operate separately?

    • its a passive speaker, you can hook as many as your receiver or amp allows

      • +2

        thanks for the helpful reply.

to whoever negged me - I love youse all anyway.

        • Ditto to whoever negged me above for making a statement of fact. Hilarious. Probably the same person who negged you! :)

      • I think typical amplifiers will only like 4ohm loads at the lowest so you wouldn't want to put more than 2 in parallel.

        Google ohms law, etc

        • As long as they put them in series, not parallel, you can go infinitely.

That said, the impedance will double each time, so your amplifier output will significantly fall.

But there's basically zero risk of damage, like there is with running them in parallel (which halves the impedance).

  • When can we expect the RGB variant?

  • +2

Neighbour got a speaker system in their yard, absolutely hate the music going during the day and into the night when kids needs to sleep.

    • +4

Covertly place this in their yard and blast your own music back

  • Anyone have a code to use at this store for a further discount wanna get a couple of sets of speakers
    Cheers

  • How does it cope with dog pee?

  • +1

site wont even load for me

    • Yep, site seems to be smashed. Rep, I'm very keen on checking out what you have on sale - looking at Q M3 in particular to buy for family (I bought one from you already and it's amazing).

Keen on the outdoor speaker too - iany suggestions on amp to run them? I've currently got a pair of ceiling mounts and a shitty amp I'm looking to replace.

      • Apologies for the site crashing last night there was a high influx of orders coming through. However we should be all good to go now :)
If you're after an M3 soundbar unfortunately we dont have those in stock anymore as they are completely sold out and we wont be getting them back in. However, we do have a great sale on some Canton soundbars (Made in Germany) and I'd be happy to recommend some based on your price budget :)

For the outdoor speakers, I can definitely recommend one of the AMC amplifiers - either the XIA30 or XIA50. Fantastic sound quality with high current amplification. These amps have managed to run 150Watt speakers with no issues at all.
