Not as good as past deals (e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/615253), personally think this is still a decent one. Very handy if you ever need regular local backup or rotating backup disks

From original Amazon listing:

USB3.0 Docking station launching brings data transmission to a new stage. USB3.0 has a super speed connector that can speed up to 5GB/s. It is 10 times faster than USB2.0 and greatly improves the stability of transportation and the efficiency of energy. Fast installation SATA hard disk without any drives and compatible with USB2.0 1.1 fast speed device make a great combination to occupy the market.

Is there anything like this that can take m2 and sd/ micro sd cards?

  • Are these any good for permanent data storage solutions? I have an old mini PC with USB3 and want to be able to use two spare external drives to run Plex and be able to drop files to and from. One drive acting as backup incase the other fails. Within Windows 10.

    • They work fine for permanent storage as long as you don't knock them. They drive is plugged into a sata port just like it would be in an external drive case (or inside the PC). I have one that I permanently keep one drive in, and I just turn it on to do backups, then turn it off again.

      • Thanks for the feedback. Was contemplating whether I could justify spending extra on permanent external solution. Both drives need sit externally in my case (using a small form factor PC).

  • Thanks got one - time to clean all the old hard drives lying around

  • Can these be plugged into nas usb and seen as 2 hdd?

    • Good question!

      • i dont see why not? this is just same as those external hdd like seagate etc2 with enclosures, only this one is naked without enclosure

    or rotating backup disks

How many km until we should rotate disks?

  • How about this:

Any difference beside from USB C?

    • Different advice is provided for the cloning functions:

USB 3: Please backup the data of the source disk before cloning

USB C: Please backup files in the target hard drive before cloning

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Have one of these and it works ok. Only limiting factor is that it's very aggressive with putting drives to sleep (a feature that can't be turned off as it's inbuilt). This is fine for basic storage, but if it's a drive that gets constant use - it's very annoying to wait the 10 seconds for the drive to respond.
Especially useless if you intend to store chia plots on it as well.

    • Surely this would be configurable in the controller via the OS. I have this device and hadn't actually noticed this to be an issue. I use it with Fedora Linux

  • Does this make toast?

    • Possibly

Any bad sectors on the drives in use may prevent duplicator and cause overheating, which damages to the station.

  • Two questions. Is there a version of this that maybe could support two sata and 1 ide. Have a lot if old ide large capacity HDD still work fine.
Also any version or way to put this on a network instead of USB?
    Thanks for any advice.

    • Plug the USB into the router.
