The whole range was 1/2 price yesterday when i went shopping in Coles. Stocked up.

I'm sure they taste great but personally I'm not a fan of the soy protein that they've added to the ingredients

    • Why?

      • -4

Soy protein is a cheap filler that bumps up the nutritional value of most processed foods.

There have also been reports that soy protein boosts production of estrogen which I would personally like to avoid.

Yeah nutrition is what we aim to get from our foods.

I'd be curious as to what would you have them increase protein with instead, I'm no nutritionist. Or not boost protein at all?

I think if you'd look into the boost of esteogen that comes from plant protein that it is a misconception that the phytoesteogen in plants effects humans.
There is more esteogen in the meat we eat.
There are conflicting studies out there, but I encourage you to have a look.

@teacherer: Whey protein isolate would be a better alternative but due to its higher cost you'll rarely see it in snack bars hence why they use soy.

Yes, I'd agree some studies can be conflicting which is why personally I choose to err on the side of caution and not consume soy if and when possible.

      They're also full of sugar

      • +2

5g of sugar per bar really isnt much

        • It is as a percentage

          • @jm7: Not compared to Tim Tams

            • +2

@TEER3X: Agreed but these are marketed as 'healthy'

          • +1

@jm7: 5 of 40 grams really isn't 'full' of sugar. If thats full then the 10g of protein must be overflowing.

Tim Tams with 8.2 of 20 grams is something I would say is 'full' of sugar.

            • @ScruffTheJanitor: The ones that feature in the deal have 9.2g of sugar in each 40g bar (23% sugar)

        • +2

Not really. You can get this sort of thing (and protein balls etc) with 15+ grams of sugar per serve.

Generally these things keep you full for hours, so 5g sugar over a number of hours isn't a lot.

Pricematching coles it seems (ends today)

  • I hope these are healthy… Just got like 5 packs

Really annoyed about 5 packs coming in 4 separate deliveries. I wish it came together. Happy to wait

    • I recall you could wait to have deliveries in one pack but that option is now gone -It must be quicker just to deliver what is available rather than put items aside till your order is fulfilled

  • What is S&S ???
