[NSW] Zinsser 10L Undercoat Primer Sealer Stain Blocker $122 (Was $166.50) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Bunnings

150

Decent price drop on Zinsser Undercoat 10L. (Possibly NSW only)
Good time to be painting the house!

Useful if you're painting a large area of fresh plasterboard, blocking over stains or bringing a dark colour back to light.

Unsure of stock levels. But in my experience Bunnings rarely drops the price on paint.
Nearest competitors are $160-$170 for 10L.
So knock yourself out!

I don't think this works, I didn't have stains but after putting this on, I got stains

    • That's odd. Rustoleum and Zinsser make some very highly regarded stuff. Did you put a topcoat on?

      • yep we put Taubmans Endure paint as a top coat

    • Same happened to me but mine already has stains and I cleaned it and put this and top coat and 2 months later stains started appearing worse than before

might need to use an oil-based undercoat

        Absolutely this.
Any water based undercoat / sealers will struggle with oil stains / smoke stains / a lot of resin. You have to go with oil based for any decent stains, shellac based if it's really intense stains.
        Hence the branding with zinsser:
        Water based = 123
        Oil = Cover stain
        Shellac = Stain killer

Used the shellac for knotty pine wood.. hella expensive, but it is literally the only one that will seal that tannin long term.

    • Depending on the stain (water stains are bad) you will need multiple applications. Zinesser is by far and away better than the other water based products.

  • This stuff is great.
My bathroom looked like a cow with mould, and being asbestos, i didnt really want to try scrubbing it.

Paint over with this, and besides the smell of the stuff; its great.

In store only? showing at $166 for me

    • Hmm. Maybe NSW only. Showing $122 for me. VIC showing $166.50.
I hate the way Bunnings does state based (or store based) pricing.

      • In vic, showing $166. Maybe NSW only.

        • Can confirm, I'm in NSW and is $122 on the website.

    • $166 for me as well.

i bought a 10L can of the oil-based coverstain stuff a while back and really disliked it. the metal can lid with little metal tags is horrible and it was way too thick making it hard to leave a smooth finish. maybe this stuff is different.

      • Yeay oil based paints are typically sticker and heavier than water based. Plus this looks like it comes in a plastic tub! :)

  • Anything from Rust-Oleum is well designed and worth the price. But I'ma try Spring 4L undercoat (Bunnings home brand?) since it's only $25. Will see how that works on my shed's plasterboard finish.

    • Don’t use spring. I was using a decent undercoat but ran out for one wall. After three coats of spring I went and bought the better stuff. The spring has TERRIBLE coverage.

      It’s like milk

    • If you are trying to kill time and boredom during lockdown, use Spring.

It requires at least 3 coats to get semi acceptable results.
      But it certainly is cheap.

I have used it a lot because it was cheap. But if you value your time, don't use it

  • Would this be good for exterior garage cladding?

Wattyl have a 30% off promotion for July as well so that may be worth checking out.

  • Ignore my last. Was still set to VIC :)
