with 13 release sept id be waiting for a drop on the 11 models

I wouldn't, the minimum u should get is the iPhone 12 because it has 5G. I was ok with 4G, but then i got the free iPhone 12 mini with 5G deal from JB Hifi. Wow, it's night and day. I was ok with 4G, but then i drank the kool-aid of 5G and can't use anything else. I wouldn't even bother with 4G now.

I've wondered about this… why is 5G so much better? 4G is still crazy fast, faster than my home NBN. I'm often getting > 100mbps down AND up.

        • +13

IMO 5G isn't necessary. I have my 5G capable Samsung phone on power saving mode and it drops to 4G and I have not noticed any loss of quality of life day to day. YouTube still steams fine in highest video quality.
5G is faster yes, but drains the battery which in turn does reduce quality of day to day life as I have to charge it sooner.

        • Best I've gotten was 270mbps on 4G download :)

      • +3

Which is fine if you're with a carrier/plan that makes 5G available but.. that might be some time off yet for a large chunk of people?

As an example, I'm with Boost on the Telstra network (coverage) but it won't have 5G for quite some time yet.. so an iPhone12 would have no advantage from having 5G capabilities on that network. Assume similar for a number of VNOs?

      • +1

Majority of Australia don't even get 5G and would stay that way for a good 3 years so yeh nice to have but absolutely notional.

        • -3

          FALSE

80% of the country’s population live in the south-eastern part of the country where 5G is available. The majority of Australians have 5G coverage available. unfortunately it would be a waste of money to put a 5G tower if you live in whoop whoop. You already know that you aren't going to get modern ammenities if you chose to live in whoop whoop, lol.

@Hugh G Rection: Rubbish is easy to invent. I, along with so many people living in the largest metropolitan city in Australia and majority of Westfield shopping centres I go to including the one on pitt Street have no 5G at all.
As a matter of fact outside the Apple store on George Street has no 5G

      I had the 8gb iPhone 5c

      thousand years of pain

If I wasn't about to get a 12 from Flybuys this'd be awesome.

    • How many points was that?

      • 288,440 for an Iphone 12 with 128gb. Got about 30k to go with half that coming next week. 272,440 for a 64gb but not sure that's enough.

  • It's been really slow since bought an XR when it released. Not recommended unless you are keen to have an Apple phone.

    • +5

Most of my family are on the XR. Mine is about three years old and the others are newer than mine and all run smooth and quickly.

    • +4

I have an XS Max (same CPU, 1GB more RAM) and it's still lightning quick…

    • +2

I've used an XR since release and its still super fast and has great battery life.

I wouldn't buy one new now, but i'd expect to get a year or two more from it.

    • suggests you to check Battery health and replace the battery if necessary - if battery isn't performing the chip will throttle its speed and performance will degrade.

  • Refurb / used XS a better buy than this, me thinks

    • What’s the target price for these?

      • +2

There’s a bunch of stores on eBay that do refurb XS for about $450, and they offer 1 year warranty and 30 day no questions asked returns. Got one a bit more scratched that I was expecting, and it was super easy to swap it out for one that looked pretty much brand new.

        • I got one earlier this year. Bought one stated "excellent" condition. Pretty sure was brand new. Amazing phone for the price ($600 or so)

        • What store did you get yours from?

    • Likely to require a new battery and no apple and ACL warranty

      • +1

The refurb eBay stores all seem to guarantee over 80% battery capacity, offer a year warranty, and a 30 day no questions asked return period. Pretty sweet I reckon.

        • +1

Is it easier to claim warranty in eBay after 60 days? even if the seller has an active eBay account?
I ask because all the options are greyed out (disabled) after 60 days in eBay.

          • +2

@utsc: eBay doesn’t want to know you after 60 days. I bought a quite expensive battery through eBay with 5 year warranty. Failed after 6 months and, like many eBay sellers, no way to contact allegedly Australian on line only seller except through eBay messaging, which was ignored. I reported this to eBay and they said they would review seller’s status. Because the seller had a large number of items listed, nothing was done. I know I have the right to recourse through ACCC etc., but not worth the effort. Lesson learned. Beware of eBay.

            • @dennisc: Agreed

            • @dennisc: Exactly that's the reason that ebay warranty from unknow sellers is garbage and many people fall for it.

I would try talking to a Ebay Manager because the first line of calls are answered by overseas support who are provided incentives to deny claims and close the ticket quickly and have no clue about ACCC

        • Refurbished that's taken many a trip to toilets have been steamed clean at special prices.

what's the difference between xr and xs max?

  • Black is also available but C&C only.

    • Depends on the location. Shows unavailable to order online in SA.

  • +1

    I really liked this phone.
Something about the shape/size of it was perfect.

    • +1

Maybe, but it’s a big phone. Bigger and heavier than the X, the XS and the 12.

      • Maybe that's what it was.
I liked the weight of it in hand.

        • weighs 4.7kg

    • +3

Renewed means its refurbished. Have a look at the description, it'll tell you more.

    • +1

Looks like new it says, so yeh have been to the toilet many times and steam cleaned at special 499

  • Anyone know if this is in their printed catalogue?
Bought the phone at $697 last week not sure if I can claim the price protection insurance…

Why is Apple still selling it for $849???

  • My xr feels so much slower these days. Have just updated to a 12 given the recent Telstra deals was able to grab one for $700

      What a great child!

  • Is anyone having speaker or sound issues with the new iPhone XR

A relative purchased a new XR from Office works and the sound is distorting and very uncomfortable to hear just when making or receiving calls and the problem is worse when on the speakerphone.

The sound is similar to playing a high volume in a low output speaker I suspect that speaker is vibrating too much.

I suspect that if I take it to the Apple Store they will swap the brand new phone to a refurbished phone,

    • +1

If it was a recent purchase, take it bacl to officeworks and they will most likely replace it with a new one.

      • Thank you, I purchased 10 days ago and within the 30 days returns period
