This is the newly released Dell 4K webcam, with an outrageous RRP of $379, on sale for 30% of as part of the Dell Christmas in July Event. I have no idea if they have Australian stock, but it is on the store.

Product page: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-ultrasharp-webcam/apd/7…

Basic features:

  • Top of the list: NO MICROPHONE.
  • 4K30FPS, 1080p60FPS
  • AI tracking, which looks pretty good.
  • HDR mode.

I ended up going for the Kiyo Pro at $100 cheaper as I really don't need most of these features and I don't particular want to pay for a dedicated microphone to go with this. Looks nice though, as does the management software.

  • one of the stock images show it can be mounted on a tripod, is that part included?

    • +1

I believe the tripod mount is included, but not the tripod itself - check the PC mag review and the short circuit quick look on youtube.

    • +1

I have this camera. There are two mounts, one has the tripod screw, the other is a clamp type thing for top of monitor (LTT did a short video; might not be main channel though.)

  • I get 400-500mbps download and 30-50 upload, my friend not as good but still decent. Video calling struggles to stay at 720p, i doubt if I had this, it would make any difference unless you use it for recording, in which case you could just use your phone anyways.

    • +2

Some video calls are capped at 1080p. 4k is useless for Zoom, discord, MSteam or Skype (pretty sure)

      • May even be limited to 30FPS with those three!

    • +1

That doesn't sound right, you can run a stable 1080p stream at 5-6mbps and that's on the high end (I've done it at 3.5mbps when bandwidth is limited) so there's something else wrong with your network (ping, jitter etc), should get your ISP to investigate.

      • Thanks for that, will do! I assume it will have to be done at both ends though?

    • 4K is pretty well intended for recording. 1080p (probably heavily compressed) or lower res will be for web calls.

But, yup that's one of the reasons I grabbed the Kiyo Pro - when there was only $30 between them it was more line ball, but at $100ish, it became a no brainer.

      • Wait, kiyo pro was $30?

        • It was $231 vs the $265 in this deal - $30 difference. Kiyo Pro is $175 right now from AMZ UK.

        • I think he means the difference was $100

    • +5

Quality is not only about resolution. Consider how a movie looks in 720p vs a garbage webcam also in 720p. The quality of the camera can make a huge difference.

    No microphone???

I use headphones most of the time, but sometimes need to rely on the mic in my Logitech cam…

    • The new Elgato Facecam is the same (doesn't do 4K, looks to have better software, similar RRP - which for 1080p60 is a hard ask). They've really focussed on the camera side.

      • +1

Yeah I get that… but the Brio is awesome, perfect for video conferencing.

  • +3

That's simply a ludicrous price for a basic camera

    • +5

Dell. A lot like Kathmandu. Who buys at RRP?

    • -2

Not if you're making thousands of dollars per stream

      • Onlyfans raking it in.

  • Wish some of the generic codes worked with this to knock it down a bit more.

    • +6

Use one of the 7% off codes from here if you'd like. Brings it to $246.73.

  • +1

Is this better than Logitech Brio?

AFAIK, Brio ticks almost all the boxes: it can record 4K@30fps or 1080p@60fps or 720p@90fps, auto focus, good low light performance and have built in NC microphone.

    • Yeah I'm half tempted to give this a nudge just to compare it.

      • I pulled the trigger for just that reason.

          • @Wally Simmonds: Yeah just got the Dell and that review was spot on. The Dell is a sharper image but the colours are a bit off. I prefer the brio.

But the worst part about the Dell is I couldn't get it to work through my Razer Core X Chroma eGpu enclosure (which I use as a dock). I needed to connect it directly to its own port on the laptop which means two cables and not one….

For that reason it's going in the cupboard and not being used. Get the brio.

    • My brio is good but it's not particularly sharp from a focus perspective. I'm wondering if this is any better.

    • Have a look at the Kiyo Pro, the Elgato Facecam, and the Avermedia PW513. Skip the Dell.

Thanks OP, my OnlyFans subscribers will appreciate the uplift.

Just got this camera through work so cant comment on the price but it's definitely excellent image quality. Razor sharp image, great HDR performance, premium build quality. AI tracking is handle if you move around the frame a bit.

    Less outrageous is droidcam.
    https://www.dev47apps.com/

    • I liked droidcam but prefer Iriun - it supports up to 4K (droidcam only does 1080p) and the pro version is a once off payment of $8 from memory.

      • I paid for droidcam X to get the rotate and AF options, and have iit running on a spare LG v30 phone rigged up with USB mic on a boom arm for WFH.
Even at 480p the image you get compared to a webcam is like day and night.
        Iriun looks interesting.

  • +2

If anyone is interested in this webcam. I ordered one with this deal and received today. Video quality is terrible. Do not waste your money. I will be attempting to return mine.

    • I was looking to order this camera. Are you able to share anymore information about this? Online youtube shots dont make it look that bad. Perhaps there is an issue with yours?
