I picked up same model last year for around $300 more. Decent performance, super quick boot up, minimal bloatware, good build quality.

Just note there is no power delivery or display over USB C, and screen is only average quality.

    • Thanks. How did you find the battery life?

      • To be fair I haven't used it much on battery since Covid life, but I would say its pretty generous when unplugged. Better than my old HP Envy X360.

        • My girlfriend owns an asus zenbook and there is a consistent sleep issue where the laptop will go in a deep sleep mode and the only way to get it back on is to hold the power button to force it off and then press it again to boot it up?

Do you have a similar issue?

My research online suggests that people have this re-occurring issue in asus laptops.

          • @MrPariah: I have a ZenBook with identical specs to this, the sleep interactions leave a lot to be desired. Wish it had the same kind of behavior as the MacBooks where they just boot up instantly when you lift the lid. Have had the issue you stated above a few times also.

            • @Jakeo: Also have a Zen Book which is about 5 years old, best laptop I ever had. Did experience the same sleep mode issues previously but now doesn't seem to be an issue. I press the power button and it wakes up. Not sure when and what happened for it to change but I am obviously thankful.
Am waiting now for a decent 16GB ZenBook special.

              • @cheapskatez: my 5 year old zenbook is still working great.

                • @xoom: I'll never buy anything else but ASUS unless for some reason they totally go backwards. I only want to buy another ZenBook so I can give my current one to my son. 5 years old and still works great and the battery is still going strong even though I use it at least 4 hours every say.

          • @MrPariah: Sorry for late reply.
No, this is not an issue for me on my Vivobook. I adjust my Windows settings to no sleep and haven't needed to force hold power button.

  • i need to buy a new fast PC for uni IT studies around the 1k dollar mark. what would you recommend? how would this Asus compare in speed and overall performance with this HP at Harvey norman $998 HP 15.6-inch i5-1135G7/8GB/512GB SSD + 32GB Optane Memory Laptop? are you better off getting 16gm ram or a laptop with only 8gb ram but with 16/32 Optane NVRAM memory?

I haven't had experience with Optane Memory. Looks great on paper, but best to do some research and find how it performs in the real world.

The HP appears to have an IPS screen which will be a big plus over the Asus. Can't determine if the HP can do power delivery or display over USB C.

  • i m leaning towards the hp one . not sure HN will give students a 10% discount?
