Oh, another supplement. Should I be taking this one too? 🤔 Wow, this is getting a little bit pricey keeping up… What does this one do?

    • Like all suplements, they give you a placebo effect that you are eating healthy.

      • Oh, you mean, I should just continue enjoying my tasty 2 servings fruit / 6 servings vegetable at ~$2-6/kg instead of buying numerous $20-50 bottles of monthly supplements?

My goodness, that would be a relief 😇

        • Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not lol. I prefer whole food

          • @Danny N: Me too! I love creamy soups and spicy curries and crispy, sweet fruity delights 😋😋😋 I'd hate to have to swallow a handful of dry pills everyday 😔

            • @muwu: Creamy soups and spify curries either require money or time.

              • @DrScavenger: I have both.

And I prioritise both those resources toward my body.

As I imagine too are the intentions of customers of supplements…

                • @muwu: And i got neither, glad it works for you. I will stick to cheap breadcrumbs from Coles

                  • @DrScavenger: I'm very sorry. You'll be in my thoughts 🙏

                    • @muwu: Aww man, I didn't expect that at all. Thanks for your best wishes mate :)

Just wondering which fruit/vegetable contains fish oil?
10c of pills a day is a lot cheaper than $30/kg of fish.

@[Deactivated]: There are no fruits and vegetables that contain fish oil.

I limit my oils and fats due to their high caloric intake and, in the case of some red meat and diary sources, high saturated fat content. Clinical evidence since the early 1900s links these fat sources with the propensity of atherosclerotic diseases causes heart disease and stroke. And this is one macronutrient habit to keep my weight control at BMI 20.

I do get some broad-grouped fat intake incidentally from my consumption of 3 servings of 150-200g of meat per week.

I get a lot more poly unsaturated fats and oils intake from daily consumption of nuts, legumes and seeds, and vegetable oils.

Specifically, fish oils I consume within my 3 servings per week of 150-200g of meat, which at ~$15-30/kg is about ~$3-6 per serving, which provide me a lot more than just fish oils in this meal… and it's a real treat, delicious 😋

I concentrate the majority of my intake, however, on fruits and vegetables.

Haven't thought to factor in supplements, yet 🤔 Haven't found them providing something I'm not getting from whole foods…

@[Deactivated]: You can get Omega-3s from vegetables. Might be better than nothing:
            https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/7-plant-sources-of-omeg…

1 capsule has the same oil as 10g of fresh salmon, so 30c worth of salmon, save 20 cents in a way.

But is there any benefit from pills?

Ordered this from Amazon yesterday for $18.90 using S&S.

  • Is the 'Wild' in the title just a marketing gimmick?

    • +1

Are the other 619 words under the subheading Benefits just a marketing gimmick? 🤣

    • " just a marketing gimmick"

Probably more an admission they don't bother sorting what species are in the by-catch they make it from….

  • same size as of other fish oil capsules.?. generally extra large ..

The problem is that there is no evidence these artificial supplements give the same benefits as real fish.
Even the evidence for eating oily fish is thin - proving dietary risk and benefits is really hard.
But evidence for supplements is much less if any.

    https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD…

    Authors' conclusions
This is the most extensive systematic assessment of effects of omega‐3 fats on cardiovascular health to date. Moderate‐ and high‐quality evidence suggests that increasing EPA and DHA has little or no effect on mortality or cardiovascular health (evidence mainly from supplement trials). Previous suggestions of benefits from EPA and DHA supplements appear to spring from trials with higher risk of bias. Low‐quality evidence suggests ALA may slightly reduce CVD event risk, CHD mortality and arrhythmia.
