Ahh. In my day this was called the dine and dash.

Can I use this to pay for a meal, a succulent Chinese meal?

  • Should be [VIC] as well

  • Available in Melbourne (and Sydney, soon) too.

Does Payo do a credit inquiry?

edit: their terms and conditions are hosted on google drive. lol.

"You authorise us to make, directly or through third parties, any enquiries we need to verify your identity and assess your capability to make payments under this Agreement including ordering a credit report, performing other repayment capability checks and verifying information you provide against third party databases."

    • Yuck. No way would I do this for a paltry $10. Far more value you can get for a credit check.

Negging just so people see your valuable comment.

      • Its $20 with Referral, with likely more to come.
Similar to condition with other forms of credit.

All these buy now pay later schemes and companies will make every one dependent on debts and will possibly push to Great Depression like scenarios soon

    • Like with Credit Cards.
Just pay the total amount due & grab any benefit they are offering - like $20 credit here.

  • can this be used for online orders through uber eats, doordash, etc.. or physical shops only?

Thanks OP. I have $20 in my new Payo account now to use. A few of my local favourite cafes and restaurants are listed so this is a free meal and drink. This looks similar to the Liven app which I use a lot to get up to 50% discounted food when ordering at physical shops.

Has anyone tried this yet in Melbourne. Remember when sosire first came out and none of the venues knew what it was or how it worked.

  • Is it off the first meal or just credit can't seem to figure it out. E.g. can you use it over a week for coffees

    • It looks to be a credit/wallet system and the $20 can be used over multiple transactions it seems. Bought lunch and had a balance in the wallet which I can presumably use towards my next purchase.

      • Right got it thanks. Did you ask before you ordered about payo?

        • I asked to confirm if the vendor accepted Payo. Didn't want to end up out of pocket.

Didn't ask about using leftover credit for other purchases. Not sure if the cashier knew too much about it themselves.

Sad day when ppl need to defer payment for meals.
Either that, or they really need to stop eating out as often, or at places that are out of their budget

    • We don't need to defer payment, just grab the current $20, possible referral credit, & any future offers - for a free lunch or 2.

I've never deferred payment on other pay later sites, just joined for the immediate benefits (price reduction etc) & paid total amount straight after purchase.

Haven't been any costs, only saved me money.

      • Yes that may be the case, but it won't be so for the majority of users who this app is targeted to

  • Tried at a coupla venues in fitzroy/Collingwood and it wasn't working

  • Seems like a scam just tried more venues including cafe Gaia in South Yarra they had no clue what it was.

    • Ok I saw a sign for it outside versachi pizza and curry vault so I assume they are accepting it.

      • In my experience, you need to see if they have the "pay me" QR code on the counter. This is because Payo accepts QR input when you want to pay too (besides the other method of finding the restaurant in-app and clicking pay with payo)

You're more likely to have a positive response based on that rather than just see a Payo sticker on the door/entrance.

So far, most of Melbourne CBD I visited is OK, save for the ones at Food Hall where they do not accept Payo anymore (which I reported back to Payo)

        • Fair call. I'm literally 0 for 6 for payo so far massive fail. What places have you used it at in melb? The venues I mentioned with a sign outside I didn't get around to testing.

          • @gottacatchemall: I'm 6/10.

4 of the ones are all situated at Food Hall and I just checked that Payo has removed all 4 from their app search results which is great.

          • @gottacatchemall: the 6 venues that have the QR code at counter are:

            Chefs Palace
            Duck Me
            Viva Kebabs and grill
            Simpsons Burger Russell st
            Wagyu fun (Tivoli arcade)
            Eku noodle (chinatown)

2 that I actually use Payo and definitely works are:
            Chefs Palace
            Duck Me

I'm planning to try these 2 next:
            Viva Kebabs and grill
            Simpsons Burger Russell st

  • i used a referral code from here to sign up but i cant see the referral credit in the app? is it only displayed when paying by card?

    • Nah, you should be able to see it.

  • is there a Minimum spend required to pay with payo? i added the code
8P5Z6 how long does one have to use it before it expires?
