They probably have a warehouse full of these. Price has been $39 since some time late last year and every time it sells out they just update with more stock.

Bought for new remote :) cheap price for new remote

  • +1

I don't really get what it does?

    • Samsung detaches the electronics (OS, cpu, blablabla)/ports into a separate box. This is like an upgrade/replacement for one of those.

      • +1

Ah I see. Could be handy, Samsung hasn't done updates for my TV for years and mine is compatible I think.
Sold out now though. Might grab one if it comes into stock again at the same price.
edit: Or maybe mine's not supported. Pretty sure mine is JS8000 SUHD TV. The JS9000 was the curved version.

        • Wonder why you got a downvote

        • +1

This happened last time too. Just check every couple of days, they always seem to come back into stock and the price has been $39 forever.

I've got one on my 2013 screen and it's definitely kept me from needing to get a new screen for a year or two longer.

Over at avforums, can't see how this or even the previous evo kit would make any difference to my old set from 2013. I don't use any of the smart features, and the panel is what it is.

    • +1

If you don't use any smart features then you're correct. It does take 4K input and scale it down though, if that's of any use.

  • Bloody hell… missed it while i was checking with Samsung support via chat! Damn…
I have a ua65hu9000 which has old os and hasn't been updated for last few years. Will definitely get one if for same price

    • +1

has old os and hasn't been updated for last few years.

Same I just get Google Chromecast TV

      • +3

Chromecast means you still need the original TV remote, plus a chromecast remote/phone. I have this kit, it's full integrated and only 1 remote. Plus, I'm not tied into giving yet more data to Google to sell.

i have the same TV and already have this upgraded box, note that it doesnt fully replace the box for the hu9000 series… it needs to be daisy-chained to your existing box via a HDMI input (as it only outputs via a HDMI port which the hu9000 series doesnt physically have on the TV itself, only via the original box)
still, the UI upgrade and the new remote is worth it.

however, im not sure if mine is faulty but whenever i try to stream a 4k movie on Amazon Prime it freezes and requires a power on\off to work again. 1080p Prime content works fine. 4k youtube and 4k downloaded videos also work fine so i'm not sure whats the deal with Prime 4k.

if you need anymore info//have any questions lemme know.

      • Thanks heaps for the valuable info. I really thought for $39 box and remote kit is good deal. Wwy cheaper than original price. Wouldn't regret badly even ot wouldn't work. Damn they sold out soo fast!
Guess will have to wait for the same deal again

  • oh, is this one of those set up boxes

If the TV had a removable back plate, or they used the older version of the One Connect box for hdmi cables, etc. IIRC, somewhere has photos of the TV’s and what to look for.

These are for the upgradeable “4K ready” 2013-2014-2015 models where they tried to make replaceable modules for different countries, sic.

E.g, where they had 4K TVs but Streaming, 4k Bluray and UHD wasn’t ready at the same time. So they offered an upgrade for Netflix and UHD support (HDMI 2.0) down the line. Not every Samsung TV had the option, just a select high end.

  • Its a device to upgrade ports and firmware on your old tv. Concept was great but implementation was too convoluted and confused.

I been given a 2012 LA32D550 32inch TV but not tried it yet and know nothing about it- would this device be beneficial?

    • -1

Would be beneficial to read the compatibility list in the deal post or on Samsung's website

Is this exclusive to Samsung TVs?

  • -1

Is this similar to a set top box, I also want to if this can be used with other tv brands like Sony dumb tv as a set top box.

  • They changed the status from out of stock to not for sale. It seems this time they sold out all stock for real.

    • +1

      Check again. back in stock.

  • Just remember I’d you use this with a non listed model it won’t work.

Also it’s smart hub 2018 and will not work with airplay

  • +2

    Back in stock.

    • Thanks, updated.

  • Can anyone confirm if this will work without sek2500, sek3500? stand alone? The reviews are very confusing. I have a 2014 Samsung UA55HU8500.

    • If your TV comes with HDMI ports on the back of the TV it works stand alone? Unfortunately I have js9000 and I have to plug it in my old one connect box

      From avsforum.com:

Unlike past Evolution Kits like the SEK-2500, the SEK-3500 , or the original One Connect Boxes provided with flagship models, the new SEK-4500 does not use the One Connect port on the TV. Rather it plugs into an HDMI port on the back of the TV using a cable that plugs into the EVK Connect port on the SEK-4500. Unfortunately for owners of flagship TVs like the JS9500 or HU9000 or F9000 for example that don't come equipped with HDMI ports on the back of the TV this means you need to plug the SEK-4500 into the original One Connect Kit

      • Thank you that explains everything.

  • For anyone interested in one of these to upgrade their select TV.

The positives are it does in fact upgrade the user interface so now I can access all of my desired apps thrus the TV rather then using another connected device. The TV responds a lot quicker to channel changes etc which is good, has voice control and free to air built in properly. Came with a nice remote also.

However the negatives. Watching a normal DTV channel (not HD) is almost unbearable. The Sek box for some reason produces a worse resolution for none HD channels then the original TV setup. Appears also that I've lost 4K quality (my TV can produce UHD).

I've also lost a HDMI port as everything needs to run through the sek box which only has 3 HDMI ports.

Everytime I turn on the TV now it shows a weird fuzz green screen before the sek box kicks in. Looks terrible for a few seconds and the old channel list shows until sek box takes over.

With auto screen size adjust I can see the TV doing a lot of adjusting when switching channels. Prior to the sek box this was not a issue.

So yes it's worth $39, Just be aware of the downfalls.
