    • Ditto. Even the wife complained about the muffled sound. I gave it away and went back to my Gen 2.

    • There's bass, mid and treble settings under Audio Settings for the device.

      Tweaking those might help?

      • No, it's a known issue with many of these. Absolutely terrible muffled assistant speech and EQ does absolutely nothing to help, however it isn't too bad with music.

      • Thanks, I didn't even know they were available. I'll keep it in mind if I ever feel the need to try them.

  • wonder if I can return mine from prime day got it for $19 to get this

  • No deal for existing loyalty members.

    • +5

So make another account and become a disloyal new customer like the rest of us.

  • +2

I signed up for the trial version and added the echo dot 3rd gen. Unfortunately i didn't get the 10$ deal. When i checked with Amazon customer care, they asked me to try tomorrow as the product might be out of stock. I don't see any logic when i can actually see the stock on the website. Anyone facing the same problem?

    • Just got one. Discount applied at checkout.

    • +1

Same here. New account, got trial but the offer isn't available. Showing as $59 in checkout for me.

Edit - Cleared all cookies and tried again while in incognito mode and the discount finally applied in the checkout this time.

  • +1

Bought it but really not sure what it does.

    • Google - Google nest mini
      Alexa - Amazon Echo dot

Less ramble and brains than Google assistant but better home automation.

      • +1

Yeah I also don't know what a Google nest mini does, never used Google assistant and have no home automation. Oh well have to start somewhere I guess.

        • +1

Yep, time to get into it then.

Besides the very basic things like asking the time and weather along with any other questions instead of manually searching online, you could just use it as a speaker and alarm clock, timer etc… but they do far far more than that.

I could start listing the things it does, but it would be better to watch videos as these have been around for many years it's a very long list.

    • lol, same here :)

  • +1

How convenient. Restarted Prime tonight and this special came up. May as well get one why not lol

  • anybody able to please refer me/pm me with, a good 'free online mobile number' website that actually works?

    • +1

      None of them.

Buy a Telstra prepaid SIM, they come with a number already loaded on them that can receive SMS before activation.

  • +3

Amazon, Google, and Apple should be paying us to use these things.

disclaimer: I have the Google ones.

  • one of my old accounts is targeted for this offer.

I made an account in July 2020 for the $10 echo dot promo.

  • Don't forget to check your mails for 3 months prime music unlimited trial once you activate your device

  • Thanks OP! $29 back into my 28 Degrees CC Account…Love that price protection insurance

  • I just signed up for the Prime and I cannot find Echo dot 3 for $10 deal. Is it finished?

    • The discount is applied during check-out.

  • +1

Referring to doweyy's original post photo - "Australia, as an Amazon Prime memer…", so is this deal only for Amazon Prime memer's. Does this qualify - https://imgflip.com/i/5ipwkp Or maybe it's just a misprint

  • I signed up for Prime on the 02/08.. can't believe I missed out just by a day.

  • +1

Seriously what do you actually do with a Echo Dot 3? Does it add any genuine value to your family lives? I have Alexa built into my TV but I haven't activated that either.

I have thos offer showing up on my main account because I never activated Amazon Prime trial but I am kind of concerned around privacy.

    • Two Examples:
      1) Bluetooth Speaker (one can still have mic turned off if worried). Use the Amazon App to play "whatever" or just connect Phone via bluetooth. If you have two, then join the for Stereo speakers.

      2) Audio Out port connected to older stereo systems. Allows one to connect to them via bluetooth to e.g. cast Spotify music etc. Again mic can be turned off.

      • Thanks for your advice. The echo dot just revived my old 2.1 Logitech speakers. We have kept the mic open because my wife is enjoying herself ordering around Alexa instead of me. I am also partly enjoying it for the same reason.

        • Picking one up to breathe new life into my late circa 2000 stereo. Great sound on it, why not.

  • +2

those who signed up to new prime trials, try redeeming code:

WELCOME15 - for $15 off your next purchase (shipped and sold by Amazon AU, US or UK)

apparently the codes only for those who haven’t made a purchase in the past 12 months and expired on 15 July according to t&c, but I was able to redeem it on an account created just a few days ago and even after I placed an order

    • Nop.. not working for me. Just activated a trial.

      • +1

try after a few days, I activated my trial ~4 days ago and it worked today. t&c says can take up to 48 hours for the offer to be applied

        • Ok.. will try in a few days. Thanks

    • yep got eneloop for $5 .. nice…

    • i tried this and even spoke to someone, theres no offer atm :(

      • I got 2 accounts that hasn't been use/shop for at least 3 years.., and got it for 2 accounts

        • how did you get it??? my process was
          1. open account and opt for free trial
          2. added an item shipped and sold by amazon au to cart
          3. at checkout i tried adding the promotion welcome15 and got rejected

could you let me know what you did?

          • @Dealzallday: I have non prime account for years, which I haven't use it then opt for free trial and magically $15 welcome bonus appears on prime items. Do you need to buy something for $15? I got 2 echo dots for$10each now I can listen music in stereo.

            • @Kooratz: ive had my eye on something for 18 for the longest time, the $15 voucher would've been great :((

i dont think its going to work on my account after all

              • +1

@Dealzallday: you in melbourne? if so pm me the item and your address , I buy it for you (got 1 left, I don't mind share the love haha)

              • @Dealzallday: a family member just signed up to a new account + free trial 2 days ago. zero purchases yet. applied the code today and it worked.

  • -1

    free trial not available anymore

  • Activated the trial, didn't get an email with a code for Echo Dot for $10. Am I doing something wrong or does it take time to get the email?

    • No special code is provided. Just need to checkout and it will automatically apply the discount.

      • +1

It's not working for me then … 😓

  • Can we sign up for free trail, place order and once we get order shipped cancel the trial prime membership? Anyone tried?

    • Yes you can.

      • Thanks

  • I got my partner create account but cant get it for $10 even though she received email to claim reward, nothing changes in the cart.

    • Did you select check out and on the payment screen should then show as $10?

  • Mine arrived today but it won't let me select a country in the alex app you need to set up the device.

It first says my amazon account is the US so I can't select Australia, So I go into the account and change address to Australia, reload app it still says US, so I try choose US as country, nothing happens.

I made a new amazon account for Australia, then when I select it on the app nothing happens.

    • Just go on amazon chat and they will surely fix it for you

  • Ordered last week and was onboard for delivery on Monday with Couriers Please and still no sign of the package. Im not surprised one bit
Amazons original estimated delivery date was Thursday so they told me to wait until then

  • +1

Wow I got the $49 sign up plus $15 credit so got the dot for $10 and NBA 2K21 for $1 ✅

  • I cant get the $10 offer. Signed up to prime on an old account amazon account. Must have been a trial account from years ago but just cant seem to get the echo down to $10 in my checkout. Really dont want to create more new amazon accounts for this

  • +1

Google assistant has so much more functionalities than alexa

    • +3

I agree. Have had two side by side for the last Month and linked both up to the same IoT devices. I was surprised with the difference but perhaps more at how much of a difference there was. Google is miles ahead across everything that I tested. Hard to explain here but Alexa felt more like talking to a child rather than a grown up. Google is a lot more intelligent for the most part.
I do love two things about Alexa that Google can't do. The first is the "Whisper" mode and how she whispers back. The second is silent mode so she does not repeat back what you you just instructed. It is beyond me why Google can't do the same. In turn Alexa wins for the Bedroom for those two reasons alone. Google for all other rooms………for now at least.

      • Things I commonly use from the google assistant mini that I don't think Alexa has is asking for public transport to get to places. Alexa uses Bing which is okay, right? I'm not sure of anything else. I have a Pixel and the assistant works great on it as a smart device. If these are the only things I could think of then prob the Alexa haha

    • +1

      Disagree…
i used to have google. they just……. too slow…….and very not responsive.
I have been using alexa for the last 2 years and they are fantastic. fast feedback and connects well to my appliances.

  • I signed up for this last week. When do we actually get the Echo? It doesn't appear as an order to track. in my account.

    • Did you get an order confirmation via email shortly after purchase?
Ordered one last Friday and it was delivered to Hub Locker on Saturday. Ordered another on a new account on Saturday, received order confirmation but still hasn't been shipped after 3 days. I don't think Amazon is going to deliver.

  • Seems like the sandstone colour is sold out but charcoal and plum are still available.

  • Got mine in less than 24 hours.

  • people still seeing this offer avail? I signed up today, part of Optus SubHub, and can't see it avail anywhere - the chat guy telling me "limited to 54000 units, gotta sign up in eligiblity period" - which today is.
just curious if others are still able to see the offer via their emails or front page, etc

    • Click on the "Go To Deal" up top and it takes one to Amazon and still shows as available.

      • that just takes me to the front member page "welcome to Prime!" - shows me as logged in. mentions the service features re delivery, movies etc .. but nothing about the Echo Dot
any colour Gen3 version shows as $59, even in cart - right up to final purchase page

        • Log out or use a different browser (which is not logged in) and then click on the link.

          • @Borg: thanks for the ideas
i tried a few of those in last couple mins in fact - different browser, in cognito, the link shows me the offer, but then tells me "you're already a Prime member" when i try to redeem it
will try few more tricks and see what happens!

            • @swampson: It's for new members only upon sign up. As you signed up via Optus Subhub, perhaps not avail to you via that method?
Set up a new account using a different email address and cancel before renewal is due.

        • yeah i wondered that too - but others on the deal link seem to be able to access it
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/645267
          ah well!

          • @swampson: Ah ok. Perhaps, open a chat with Amazon Support (they are helpful) and explain that it is not showing……they might be able to add the promo to you account. Let them know it will save you having to cancel and trying again :-)

            • @Borg: you're a mind reader - i'm part way thru that right now too :)
the guy is pasting from the t&c page https://www.amazon.com.au/b?ie=UTF8&node=8190270051
bizarrely he is firmly mentioning about the availability period "between 03 August 2021 09:15 AM AEST and 9 September 2021 11:59 PM AEST" - today is Aug18; and the 54000 stock .. anyway, from reading other threads, i believe others are still seeing the offer itself available so perhaps it's not a stock either … just one of those things :)
so i'll either wait .. or i'll give up, i am sure i will survive :)
              thanks for the tips!

              • @swampson: it popped up over night
Now i see "Your price at checkout is $10" - it's a small (but obvious) line of text in the product page.
                Happy days

  • Done Thanks Op so tempted to get another one

  • Can you use these just as a speaker to play music off your phone? If so what's the quality like?

    • +1

      much better ..

      • Cheers. And can you cast any type of music files and YouTube etc or does it have to be Amazon music?

        • +1

you need to link it first on alexa skills, eg spotify, youtube music, iheartRadio and so on (it also can act as bluetooth speaker).
If you have 2 echo dots , you can pair it as well to make it stereo music from wifi streaming(not casting nor bluetooth).

          • +2

            @Kooratz:

            eg spotify, youtube music, iheartRadio

Just to add to it, YouTube music skills is not available on Alexa and Spotify only works if you have a premium account.

  • In checkout it says “use your $39.00 Promotional balance”

Is that only available for this product?

    • Is that only available for this product?

      yes

      • Great. I’ll grab one now. It’s a good discount.

        • Am confused…..why?
          Why not get for $10?

          • @Borg: I wasn’t sure if it included other products or only echo dot.

            • @Oz em: Ah yes, now I understand and misunderstood the question. Tks.

  • Freebie week.

Got Prime free from Optus which leads to $39 credit towards an Echo Dot. Now I feel bad.

  • deal dead? i just signed up and not getting the $10 offer. is there a code or something?

    • Still exists. Sign out of your Amazon account. Then click on above OP link and you will see it.

      • Can confirm this works for the plumb colour but didnt work for the charcoal colour

        • ok, i got it to work. all good now. thank you.

          • @Hugh G Rection: How long did it take the credit to be applied to your account?

            • @nosrad: It shows it at check out. Before that there’s no indication of a discount.

              • @Oz em: I signed up yesterday. It still shows at $49 during checkout.

                • @nosrad: Did you click on pay? Mine only showed on the payment screen.

                  • @Oz em: It was on the page where you select payment method

                    • @Oz em: I checked the payment page.. it still shows $49
