happy! signed up for 1 month to get this at $16.99 in total.

I already have one of this, paired with Firestick and use as TV speaker. happy to get 2nd one and turn it to stereo TV speakers…

See my comment below. If you cancel today your membership "End Now" will credit you back half the monthly fee ($3.50)

Damn, tried a new email address but says my mobile is connected to my other acc, anyway to bypass adding the mobile to a new acc?

Edit: Made an account on Amazon forums, then logged into the Amazon site and it will let you click 'not now' when asking for a phone number

    • Got a link to the forums? When I try to make an account it still asks for phone number else says can't find account when I try to log in.

Love the OZB's inventing new ways to get around paying. We should run the country!

        • Sadly this doesn't appear to work any more as they ask for a mobile via this method now too :(

          • @Thiefsie: You mean the "Not Now" option has been removed?

          • +1

@Thiefsie: I bought 13 so far with that method and I’m still doing it. Also used the $15 promo on every single account. May be you are not doing it right bro.

            • @Asuran: Not sure what happened before as now it works. Thanks for insisting I try again!

            • +1

@Asuran: 13, all with new accounts? You'll end up banned.
…and it sounds like you deserve it

            • @Asuran: They seem to have tightened it up a little. I can sign up one time via the forums without the mobile, then every subsequent time following, even via VPN or alternate IP (mobile network) and they have some detection in there to ask for mobile number. I'll wait 24 hours and try again. How did you get so many so fast??

              • @Thiefsie: Happened to me too, tried after 24 hours or so and I was successful.

  • +2

I have 4 of these at home already and another 2 unopened. Signing up now for another… :-)
(the two still boxed are getting lonely)

    • Think im up to about 8 or 9 :-/

  • just in time, was about to get prime last night to place some orders but procrastinated, good thing ;)

Jeff thanks you for your $1 contribution to his next space adventure.

  • Finally, been waiting for this to use them Echo clock from that offer earlier this year. Thanks OP

    • The Echo clock has been so good for cooking timers.

  • Thanks! Picked up one

  • thanks got one
not a bad deal for $16.99
used cashrewards, 7% cashback for amazon devices.

I was also charged 6.99 for prime activation, spoke to amazon customer care over the chat and informed them that I am eligible for 30 day free trial. They checked and refunded my 6.99$ , please have a chat with them tomorrow to get your money back !!

  • +2

You can sign up for $6.99 per month if you have previously used the free trial and cancel straight away (End Now) for a $3.50 credit.
Therefore total expenditure $13.50 for the Dot

    • that's great, and sign-up again to repeat the process?

      • I don't think it works with the same acc…worth the try though

        • I can confirm what samwise_77 has said.
I signed up and cancelled straight away after purchasing my $10 echo dot. Once you reach the "end now" screen it will confirm a refund of $3.50. Saves me signing up for a fake account which is time I don't have. Thanks.

    • I signed up and $6.99 got debited, but now sure how to add on the Dot? Do I get a separate email with a code?

      • +1

Search for the product (as you would search any product) and add it in your cart and in the end it will automatically change to $10 payment required.

      • +1

Check mail - To redeem the offer, add 1 Echo Dot (3rd Gen) to your cart. At checkout, the price of the item will be automatically reduced to $10.

  • Cheers OP, good to listen to the music on my garage.

  • Thanks OP got two !

      2 different accounts I guess?

      • +1

how? just vpn ? different mobile phone ?

  • Joined up and it takes me to $59, must be all gone, that was quick

    • +1

Add it to your cart and it will revert to $10 before purchasing it.

      • i.e. select "Check Out" and it discounts there.

  • Hmmm tempting but do i really want one

  • I signed up for Prime a week ago, is this product good enough to justify me cancelling my subscription and resubscribing? Lol

    • cancelling now wouldn't make you eligible, instead try creating another account if possible and you can use the free trial as well

  • +1

bought yet another thing which i didn't need. Now have Prime membership for a month.. Now hit me with all the prime offers with $0 delivery - I am ready

  • This is a good device only for reading Amazon books and Alexa clock timer. Otherwise Google Mini is better for all answers

    • I use mine to change channels and turn my TCL TV off, but doesn't want to turn it on for some reason lol.

      • wild guess, but network connection for the TV may only be available while it's fully on - ergo Alexa may not be able to communicate with it.

I used to power my chromecast directly from the TV's own USB slot, and this (turn off, but not on) was an issue for me…

Google home here. Worth having one just to play with or just a waste of $16.99?

  • Is it worth having 2 of these?

    • +1

Yes, the "stereo" effect is quite good.

      • Alright cool just bought myself another.

  • I'm thinking of using one of these as a doorbell and/or kids' sleep music speaker connected to my smart home system (home assistant) and turn the microphone off.

My google homes don't work because there is an annoying 'plownk' sound everytime the speaker turns on and an even more annoying announcement that "by the way, the mike's off" if the power goes out for even a second in the middle of the night. There doesn't seem to be a workaround for either problem with the Google Home mini.

Does anyone know if the Amazon devices have the same problem?

    • Put a USB powerbank inbetween your google mini and wall outlet.

      • +1

thats a big brain move right there

    • This was probably what you needed.

  • I just sign up and it is still $59

    • Add to cart and checkout, then you can see the discount applied. I had the same doubt and a fellow ozbargainer helped me out.

      • I will give that a go but this is the response Amazon customer service gave me.

"Thank you for sending me those links and I am sorry that you have seen that promotion advertised on ozbargain however it is not an offer or promotion we're running at the moment."

        • After signing up for Prime trial I also received and email saying

"Thank you for signing up to Amazon Prime. A credit has been applied to your account, entitling you to purchase an Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) Smart Speaker with Alexa for $10.

To redeem the offer, add 1 Echo Dot (3rd Gen) to your cart. At checkout, the price of the item will be automatically reduced to $10.

The offer must be redeemed by 23 September 2021. While stocks last. See full Terms & Conditions below."

    • Go to prime membership and check if you have joined it yet.

  • My smart devices are slow to respond on command. e.g. turning on my yeelights. Is this just the yeelight? Is it because of using the first gen of google mini? Thus, I may need to change to amazon echo?

  • after signup do I need to add to cart and checkout?

    • +7

No you just close your eyes and say out loud 'Jeff, my body is ready' and you beam the echo energy from your mind ⚡ straight to Amazon.

  • +2

Use the “+” or “.” trick to use the same email multiple times, use amazon forums to signup and then login on Amazon website in that way it shows “skip now” option for mobile number verification, use VPN if it is picking your IP address, use Revolut virtual prepaid cards to pay. This way you can signup for prime 30 day trail and just pay $10 for the echo dot. I just bought 6. Hope this helps someone.

    • 6 from one new account, or did you make 6 new accounts?

      • 6 new accounts

        • I think this got patched… did it successfully for 1 new account, but the 2nd one says something about deemed ineligible for trial

          • @xrailgun: Working for me

            • @Asuran: did you do it again today?

              • @xrailgun: Yes, worked for me at 2pm today.

                • @Asuran: :( i tried again right before last commenting, with another different account, same thing. maybe my IP got blacklisted, going on VPN after creating the account doesn't work. So anyone else trying, try going on VPN before!

                  • @xrailgun: If it asks for a billing address, put in a fake one if using Revolut cards as Revolut doesn't validate the address. Then try again - I've done it 5 times, getting them all sent to an Amazon parcel locker, went through with no issues.

                  • +1

@xrailgun: Use VPN throughout the process and also change the servers for every single transaction, it helps. Clear cookies on your browser, use your spare phone/tablet if you still have any troubles.

        • It asks for billing address details and I'm using Revolut virtual card so name in billing address has to be the same as virtual card, address is fake but can mobile no. be fake or does it need to be a real mobile number not linked to any amazon account?

          • @BellaWii: Doesn’t matter, you can use a different name and also the mobile number can be fake.

    • FORUMS ask for Mobile number as well so can't create a new account just based on another email address.

      • Use a different device to sign up, change VPN server and try again

        • New Email nor VPN has no bearing on "Mobile Number" which is asked when signing up on new accounts.
HOWEVER: One could (which I since discovered), log into the account which has the Mobile number and remove it first :-)

  • Just saw the shopback offer and want to combine, but not sure if I cancelled the order now I'd still be able to get it for $10

  • +1

Thanks. Used the missus account which hasn't been used for over a year and previously trialled Prime. Was able to free trial Prime again.
Combined with Shopback 10% and $2 bonus cashback

    • True

  • Thanks OP!.

Ordered using https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/642141 deal and this $10. Awesome!

    • I did this but it's not tracking for me :/

      • +1

I am also waiting. Will wait for it to be tracked. Else submit a ticket.

    • it may be tracked but wont be approved. as there is a promotional credit used in the order.

      • Probably correct - although promotional credit isn't specifically mentioned that I can see

      • Amazon tracking takes a while to show, a day or 2.

Pretty sure it will be approved, no promo code was used. Gift cards and promo credit are ok I believe (though for promo credit only tracks on the $10 actually paid in this case).

  • +2

I bought one of these in the last similar promo and found it disappointingly muffled sounding compared to my Google Home. So it sits in my cupboard gathering dust.

    • What gen?

      • i just use these stuff for asking weather, time and date. Sometimes news. So, $10 is good.

        • Ah ok then my 1st gen google mini is suffice
