My computer did blackout with sticks from this series. Not recommended even B-die(s) are used on my 4400mhz memories.
Definitely will pay more for a brand like Crucial, Corsair or G.Skill ones next time.

your memory controller probably couldn't do 4400mhz, almost no system can do it except an 11900k with a z590 motherboard rated to that speed.

      • Mine is 5950x with ASUS dark hero crosshair motherboard.
Now the said "4400mhz" is running 3800mhz with some chance of black out during games.

        • What timings? My 3600 will run 3800 CL16 without any black screen or WHEA errors but has a very occasional audio glitch.

        • yeah, the 5950x IMC is lucky to go to 2000 on IF or 4000mhz on the memory, and that's a good bin - 3800 is perfectly normal and not the ram's issue, you just got a low bin 5950x (and if 1900 isn't stable, then you either got a garbage bin 5950x or timings are off - try 3600c16 manually, should give you better speeds than 3800c18).

The brand of the ram dosen't even matter here, the ICs on the stick do, and all the 3600c18 kits from different brands are likely rev. E or Cjr, and will have near identical stability and speed capabilities assuming similar bin.

Is it better to go 4x 8GB vs 2 x 16GB to pair with a Ryzen 5000 series CPU?

    • 4 sticks

    • The problem with 16GB sticks is that you can't guarantee that they're dual rank. Nowadays we're seeing more and more single rank 16GB sticks since it's cheaper to use 8 16Gb chips than it is to use 16 8Gb chips.

However, basically all 8GB sticks nowadays are single rank so if you have 4 of them, you'll get the performance benefit of dual rank sticks.

Depending on your motherboard, you may not be able to run 4 sticks at high frequency. For example, my B450 Tomahawk Max really struggled at running 3600 CL14 or 3800 CL16 on 4x8GB but my B550 Aorus Pro V2 handles 3800 CL16 4x8GB without any issues.

      • Wonder if it's a msi issue? My mortar max also can't run 4x8 at 3200, only 2x8…

        • Nope, the B550 Tomahawk has no issues running 4 sticks at 3800.

Not my screenshot but you get the point.

          • @integral: Ic, tks for the info, maybe a "msi b450 " issue? Idk, just wild guess

@Tyler Kwok: It's not just limited to MSI. A lot of B450 motherboards just aren't as good as their B550 counterparts, since B550 was made with PCIE 4.0 in mind, so the PCB quality must be taken into account (signal integrity reasons).

Also, B450 was made for 2nd gen Ryzen which had a weaker memory controller which may have disguised motherboard bottleneck.

    • 2x16, ryzen dosen't benefit really from having a quad channel kit, and you'll run into a lot more instability OCing. Also, upgrade paths.
