Product Description
The VideoMicro is an ultra-compact microphone designed to improve the audio quality of your videos. It incorporates a high-quality cardioid condenser microphone capsule for great quality audio recordings when used with a wide range of cameras. A directional microphone, the VideoMicro reduces distracting peripheral sounds and focusses on the audio in front of the camera. Perfect for capturing incredible audio to accompany inspiring vision. The microphone body is made from aluminium, giving it a high level of RF rejection and is finished in Rode's high-grade ceramic anti-glare black coating. Included with the VideoMicro is a camera shoe mount featuring a Rycote Lyre shock mount. Featuring a suspension structure composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic, it is far more effective at minimising unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than traditional elastic suspensions. Virtually indestructible, the Rycote Lyre will never sag, snap, wear out or require rethreading to maintain its effectiveness. Also included is the WS9 synthetic furry windshield with foam inner cell, designed for use in outdoor scenarios where wind and environmental noise can inhibit recordings. Optionally available is the Rode SC7, a TRS to TRRS cable that allows the VideoMicro to be used with smartphones, to capture crystal clear, directional sound for video and video applications.

Set Contains:
1 x VideoMicro
1 x SC2 3.5mm TRS patch cable
1 x WS9 Deluxe Wind Shield

  • Can these be used with smart phones?

  • Would this be a good double up microphone for twitch streaming/gaming as well?

If you really need an on-camera mic sure

I wonder if this is the updated version or the older version that requires the tin-foil fix?

    As per reviews:
"I've found that all audio recorded with it has a very audible clicking noise which appears to be generated by the Bluetooth in the camera trying to connect to devices. The fix, unbelievably, is to wrap the base of the microphone (the section where the connecting 3.5mm lead goes in) in tin foil."

I think you're confusing this with the larger VideoMic Go.

I've also found this fix works for anti vaxxers

I think it's better to wrap them in duct tape.

  • I've got this with the extra cable for mobile phone and also the old model of the full size shotgun also by rode. The big shotgun is better, but it's big, heavy, uses 9v batts and is a pain when you have camera, gimbal and shotgun to hold at arms length for a walking talking shot. This saves a lot of weight and does a good enough job - it's rode after all.

  • I just received this mic. Curiously, there's a Made in China sticker on top of the original barcode, just under the Made in Australia text. Seems a bit sus. I haven't opened the box to examine the mic yet.

    • Oh man that's super suss. I wonder if it's worthwhile asking rode if they have a way of knowing this is legit or a counterfeit.

      Have just been reading https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/blog…

I just opened the box. It's 100% counterfeit.
        - The RODE logo is not centered with the gold dot
        - There is a blemish on the cheap paint
        - The shock mount is generic
        - A generic TRRS cable was included

        • Hmmm my shock mount is red and there is "rode" written on the cable head and on the cable itself.

It definitely looks like counterfeit. Report to amazon and get a refund!

          I'm sorry I posted this :(

This seller is still on the listing with the $61 price now.

Yup, just did. I also contacted Rode to see if they'd like any info.

            I'm sorry I posted this :(

Not your fault, you can't tell from a listing, and the price wasn't outrageously low compared to the previous lowest price by Harris Tech whom I'm very certain would not sell counterfeit goods. Thanks for posting. :)

            • @eug: Did you get any replies from RODE?
I entered the serial number to register for warranty and it checked out as valid.
It does appear counterfeit with the additional generic black cable and generic mount.

              • @lomie:

Did you get any replies from RODE?

Yup, they said they don't need any info from me. I guess they're aware of the counterfeits.

I entered the serial number to register for warranty and it checked out as valid.

What happens if you try to register the same number a second time under a different account? I'm wondering if Rode's warranty registration relies on unique codes or it'll just accept whatever you enter.

It does appear counterfeit with the additional generic black cable and generic mount.

Yup, very certain that it's counterfeit.

I returned mine via Amazon's new label-free ParcelPoint returns system.
The Night Owl branch that I lodged the parcel at lost my parcel. 😒

edit: looks like they found it, I just got an email from Amazon saying they've received it. I dropped it off 3 weeks ago. Phew!

                • @eug: I just noticed this warning on Rode's website:

Important information about purchasing from the US.

If you see a price that looks too good to be true, it probably is! Beware of counterfeit goods. Check our website to make sure you’re purchasing from an authorized RØDE reseller. For quick reference NO FBA reseller (FULFILLMENT BY AMAZON) on Amazon is authorized. You can view a current list of unauthorized US dealers here.

I've also noticed that Honest Baby is no longer on the list of buy options.

What happens if you try to register the same number a second time under a different account?

I haven't gone through with trying the wty registration process.
