  • does it have the US 110v prong?

that makes the charger… difficult to use here

    • -5

Twist the prongs with pliers to 45 degrees.

rolls up a newspaper and hits you on the nose
        NO…..NO…..

a plug adapter will cost you about 99c on ebay (assuming its a fixed cable, if its just a figure-8 cable use one thats got an AU plug on the end already)

      • I now do that all the time. Seemd like a bad itea at first but it does work really well

      • If its not universal voltage your screwed…

        • +2

if its not universal voltage, and you plug in with an adapter your no less screwed..

  • Deal's probably worth it for the batteries alone, but while watching an unboxing (who said unboxing vids were useless?) I noticed the charger's US power plug is unfortunately not on an easily replacable figure-8 cord or the like, but is actually two prongs sticking out the back of the charger.

    • Any chance you could post the link for the video?

    • I've a near identical charger - is super simple to just pop on an adapter (which is available as cheap as ~$1 delivered or at any bargain type store. Could not be easier. :-)

  • Postage is USD11.09 to Victoria.
I am not sure if the charger can do 240VAC or not, I presume it can.

    • Dw, i have the eneloop charger and it can take 240v fine

    Where's the rainbow? :(

  • Is this a good deal from Dick Smith? http://dicksmith.com.au/product/S4462/eneloop-quick-charger-… $39.99 quick charger with 4x AA eneloop cells

    • No, this is standard RRP.

      • Wow, then a lot of other Australian retailers are ripping us off. All over Google they're selling it for more than $39.99! :p

        Thanks ca6leguy.

  • There cells are fantastic, some of the best money can buy but the charger is junk. Use with a quality charger like a La Crosse. See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/64276 for a good discussion on it.

Hmmm I think this is a so-so deal. Mainly as the charger included is pretty average, the C/D spacers are of questionable value to most users and generic's are available on Ebay very cheaply and well the big deal yesterday kinda overwhelms it. Not being in stock helps too.

This is essentially what you get - you won't find better pix and info than here - though the current one has the gen.2 Eneloops. Everything else looks the same IMHO.

A LOT of folks are really unsure about battery chargers - and fair enough its a tough area to completely understand but in order to get a good charger you have to look for one that:
    1. Is 'intelligent' - that being it monitors and stops charging your batteries when they're full. So called 'dumb' ones will continue to pump power in regardless which can damage the batteries.
    2. Has an independant charging channel for every battery it charges - some can only do in pairs etc (if it has the above it will almost always have this).
    3. Either charges your batteries at the right rate for them (general concensus on NiMh is they should be charged at 0.5c (c is battery jargon for capacity, so for a 2000mA standard Eneloop you'd charge at 1000mA - this is what Sanyo themselves recommend). Alternatively you can charge at 0.1c for 16hrs - but this is hard monitor/stop & smart chargers often can't detect when to properly end at this low charge. Some folks use an old 'dumb' charger plus a cheap wall power timer (ya know the twist ones) to achieve this. However, to do this you're best off ensuring the batteries are discharged to 0.9-1.0v before doing so.
    4. An inbuilt discharge/refresh cycle is very handy to long term health of batteries.

Powerex Maha, La Crosse & AccuPower all make very good chargers. Sony has a good one and some ok ones in its CycleEnergy range. Oddly all Sanyo's offerings are pretty poor. On the very bargain oriented end the Soshine SC-C3 could be a good pick for some folks, around $15 delivered (DX, FocalPrice) some reports of overheating but hard to beat for that price.

You should put the battery charger info in a separate post in the General Discussion forums. I found this very useful and I'm sure others will as well!

    • Links would be useful.

  • I actually had this on back order for about 2 weeks, then when the DSe deal was on yesterday, i was sick of waiting and decided to cancel this order and go for DSe 2 x 8 AA packs

    • and dicksmith is not honor my order, they just sent me an email saying too many people ordered the battery and they cannot complete my orders

      • That is crazy…they ordered they should complete it…what a joke.
