Anyone signing up to Paramount+ tonight?

Paramount+ launches tomorrow. Think I read somewhere it'll be at midnight. So many streaming options out not sure how many people would sign up..

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are. Worth singing up? Any good shows you'll be watching?

We're back to square one with all these fragmented streaming platforms now… This is ridiculous.

No from me. Sticking to Netflix and Prime only.

    • +26

Netflix, prime, and the seven seas for anything else.

      • +9

        Yaarrrrrrrrrrrrr

      • Add Disney+ (from the Mandalorian) and yup!

        • +7

I signed up for a year to lock in the price before the price hike, really wish I didn't. So far I've watched the marvel/star wars stuff and nothing else. Great for someone with kids, I imagine, but I'm barely using it.

Once this year expires I'm going to cancel it, then every december sign up for one month and binge whatever I missed through the year. Mandalorian is good, and Loki was fine, but it's not good enough to justify the price.

          • @freefall101: The mrs got a free 12 months with her iphone, I still thought it was overpriced and have cancelled the renewel.

        • It's like we're twins.

        • Not a fan of the premium purchase for new releases and their subservience to the CCP

      • Out there on the seven seas, exists a service that complies Ts neatly under the movie or show title and literally streams them like Netflix. PM if you cant find it.

      It is getting ridiculous.
We are paying for Netflix and Stan, and Prime as part of the delivery deal.
We also have time limited freebies from Kayo and Apple. We had some Fetch channels and Disney+ but cancelled them

I think the sustainable way for us will be rotating through the various offers with a different one every month or two, and sharing a subscription to those we want to have access to all the time.
And they are really set up for binge watching, so it is reasonable to have a service for a month or two, watch what you are interested in, then cancel it till enough new things are released.

I think I’ll just stick with Plex and my eye patch…

Might see you out on the high seas, matey!

    • Try Kodi + Real Debrid.

      • +6

I did, hence the reason I’m on Plex. Kodi is hot garbage compared to Plex.

        • these apps can be used in different ways
many people use Plex (or Emby or other media manager) AND Kodi - plex being the back end, and Kodi being the front end.
Kodi has so many different skins, and can easily be setup to look far better than Plex.

          In kodi they use https://github.com/croneter/PlexKodiConnect

      100% Plex + Radarr + Sonarr
      Im at 2300 Movies
      18500 TV episodes.

      • Yeah can't beat it

So worth the time to learn to set up

      • Jees how much storage space do you have? I'm at like 600+ movies with majority being 4k remuxes

        • 3x 12TB and 1x 10TB holding till HDD prices are back down to what they used to be before i buy more.
All my movies at 1080p and most encoded to x265
Wont be switching to 4k till HDD prices drop, And even then ill always use x265 encodes either encodes by my favourite x265 encoders or i do it myself.

          • @Axelstrife: Ah yeah figured it would be compressed up for that number

          • @Axelstrife: Is x265 better than x264 in terms of quality?

            • @OzFrugie: If the remux is x264 any encoding will mean some loss quality but if the encode is done right you shouldn't see a quality difference, x265 is better for storage saving but it takes a lot longer to encode x265.

              • @Axelstrife: I read somewhere that if the source is high quality like bluray, x265 will be ok, not if the source quality if lower.
While x264 has a better tolerance.

                • @OzFrugie: The x265 quality depends on two things, source quality (remux is best) and encoding settings

If you're single or lucky enough to live in a household with similar tastes, just sign up on a monthly basis and rotate your subscriptions rather than have multiple concurrent ones. There should be enough content on each for you to binge every 30 days. Or maybe have a staple (like Prime) and a secondary that's on rotation if you can afford it..

    Worth singing up?

Trying to think of a witty singing reply :(

    • Sign up to piratebay?

    • +8

Singing jokes musn't be your aria of expertise.

    • You're preaching to the choir

  • +1

Will there be a free trial?

    • +1

7-day trial according to their website. I posted it here since somebody else will anyway. I'm expecting many negs.

      • Jokes on you - no negs so far.

        • Odd. I'm sure all the other streaming platform deals were negged to oblivion.

  • +2

Will eventually be forced to get it for the South Park movies. Getting sick of having 500 different streaming services that don't even have every season of the things I wanna watch.

    • New Beavis and Butthead movie too

      "You said mount." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onk5Sqet6AE

    • +1

don't even have every season of the things I wanna watch

I find this the most annoying.

    • Ifind it more annoying when they DO have all the seasons but never play them in order, specially when they are playing the same shit for the 110,000th time

  • +4

Just signed up with the free trial, there is literally no content.

    • +1

I read a couple of newspaper articles and was pretty surprised they seem unable to name any star content.
Seems like the 99c shelf at blockbuster plus some TV shows you can see elsewhere, that are more in the "I guess this will do until the show I am planning to watch starts" level of desirability.
I suppose the A league will at least get them some viewers.

      • The problem is they've already sold off all the rights to the stuff that is popular in the US. The selling point has been milking the Star Trek franchise over there, I imagine from the next season of each show and whatever new series they come out with they'll move to Paramount+

They have Premier League in the US, if they get the rights to that here it'd be a massive win for them.

        • Pretty sure Netflix /prime have Star Trek for the next seasons too! Im sure eventually it'll all go over there.

Also they only have Season 3 of 80's Twilight Zone… The other seasons aren't available anywhere else..

  • It’s just the 10play app with a bit more content.
I think I’ll pass. Looks similar in quality to STAN.

  • Just sub one month for each service one at a time and rotate, that way you get to binge all you want.

    • On the paramount+ month after you finish with their content what do you do for the other 29 days if the month?

  • No Invader ZIM on Paramount+ here yet the US has it.

  • +2

I have a Netflix subscription, anything that's not on there I'll find some other way of watching it.

    Aarrr

  • +4

Netflix has been absolutely trash lately. What are you guys watching on there?

    • Animal kingdom.
      Rick and Morty.
      Ozark when it comes back.
First season of Locke and Key.
      Lupin, but it's terrible.

      • Queen's Gambit was great.

      • I enjoyed Lupin. Old-school unrealistic blind revenge plot.

First half was better than the 2nd though.

        • The first half way ok. The second half was terrible. Shot like a high school project, acting was even worse than the first half.

          • -1

@brendanm: haha not to mention the lead actor got fat between first and 2nd halves….made it a bit harder to swallow his debonair persona :)

    • Naked Director, Jojo is also interesting.

  • +1

    Binge for GOT and TWD.

  • Just a rebadging of the failed Ten All Access subscription service with some additional content that is still bleh tbh

  • +1

"The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting anti-piracy technology to work. It's by giving those people a service that's better than what they're receiving from the pirates."

    - Gabe Newell

On that note, I fail to see how another monthly subscription service that further fragments the streaming industry is going to provide a better service than the pirates already are providing right now.
A big no thanks from me, chief.

    • Well of course he'd say that. He earns so much from the gaming industry being the only place to go for so long. That's slowly changing though with the epic store etc…

  • Content: naff.
    Subscription: not happening.

  • Are there even subtitles available?

Also, the episode descriptions for the second season of Five Bedrooms is all over the place with wrong episode titles as well.
