How to Make use of a bricked iPhone 5?

Ok…I didn't steal it.

Someone lost it at my work. Been 6months +.

It's a old iPhone 5 in a useable condition. I decided to charge it up and make use of it for QR code scanning function only for OLDer clients who come and doesn't own a smart device.

(I guess the owner didn't want it anyway as there isn't a sim card inside either when I open the tray)

So…..when I turn on, it says iPhone disabled.
(I am android user)

Any idea how I go about unlocking it and maybe even remove Apple ID?

Or I should just give up and bin it?
I don't want and don't need this phone, but just thought at least give it some life while it still is capable.

What if I take it to apple and say I found it and no one claims it for too long, they can either contact owner , or help me unlock it and I can keep it after they wipe the data completely ?
    Would they do it?

Apple can't unlock it or contact the owner.

      • Yes they can if a proof of purchase is in hand with identification.

I did it with a work mobile and an invoice from the company.

    • I found an iphone once and took it to the apple store so they could reunite it with the owner and they refused to even touch it. You have no chance.

Original owner is required to unlock and remove Apple ID.
Pretty much only good for parts

    • Don't think it's worth the trouble selling it for parts

      • Probably not considering it's age. You should probably check the IMEI too to see if it's blacklisted

        • +1

          Not blacklisted

  • Put it on Gumtree for $50 ono and accept the first offer you receive ~ $20. (Pickup/cash only)

And tell them this is a lost property ?
And buy at their own risk?

      • +1

Yes. Gumtree or eBay. People can use it for parts. For eg: I have an iPhone 5 that needs a new power button.

      • My iphone 5 has a smashed screen, cheapest legit screen spare to be had plus other parts as well.

How to Make use of a bricked iPhone 5?

Put it on top of a pile of papers so that the papers don't fly away.

iPhones are great in that there is no way to get around the activation lock on the device. But they are also terrible because there is no way to get around the activation lock on the device.

    • It's amazing how many customers say they have disabled it etc, and the service agent returns it, saying it needs to be turned off etc.

    • Clay Pigeon.
    • Paperweight.
    • Fishing sinker.
    • Kids toy.
    • Desk support for something small you want to raise the height of.
    • Device to throw or smash when your other phone isn't working or you get stressed.
    • Spare battery if you have another (change out for parts).
    • Lot's of good potential…
    • Battery explosion?

      • I wouldn't be sniffing the dust like that dude did.

Use it as a status symbol and pretend to browse it or have conversations with it when in public.

    • Then you look like a clown when it suddenly starts ringing! 🤣

  • There was an item advertised on Ozb, from the USA, which was a frame with a dismantled iPhone 4. The backdrop had explanations of the parts specs etc. You could do that?

  • Here is a guide. Not sure how reliable it is etc.

Carry it with you as self defense projectile weapon.

Ps: Make sure you dont miss.

  • When someone pisses you off, throw it at their head.

  • Can not flash it Manually somehow???

    • +1

      To what?

      Lollipop or Marshmallow

You did say you used Android, flashing is Android only.

As you say its not blacklisted, but someone at your work has probably already tried passwors etc and thats why its locked and left lying around.

      Whats the point of

QR code scanning function only for OLDer clients who come and doesn't own a smart device.

The QR code is designed to help the governement track customers who come to your establishment, so they can notify them if they need to quarantine. If they scan using this phone, then are you going to call the customer, and how will you know who it was. Its rather pointless.

    • Nah the iPhone is staying locked.

I have done that with an old 3g and installed older rom which worked.

I'm sure there is a way.

  • I have gave up on this phone.
In the draw it goes and collecting dust
