Origin Broadband (Origin Energy) and Aussie Broadband

I've signed up with Aussie Broadband last year as recommended by ozbargain members and have been enjoying the qulity.

Few days ago, i contacted Origins retention team and changed my electricity provider to Origin and was offered $25 bundle discount on their NBN if i sign up with their NBN, which support staff mentioned is usually $15. During the conversation, he asked if i am currently with Aussie Broadband, then said that the Origin NBN's service provider is Aussie Broadband. So service and support will be provided by Aussie Broadband.

I found this news online which seems to confirm the details, https://www.afr.com/companies/telecommunications/aussie-broa…

https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/aussie-broadband-p…

Under the deal with Aussie Broadband, Origin will continue to do its own sales and marketing activity, while the telco provides customer support, service delivery, and account and credit management

If correct, this seems to be a great offer since i am enjoying the ABB's NBN quality. Does anyone know if this is correct? Anyone on Origin Broadband? How is their general NBN quality?

  • Thanks for the info. I declined not knowing which provider Origin were using. If you do sign up with Origin, would you please let us know if it is possible to opt out of cgnat by calling support?

    • The staff mentioned that all NBN plan comes with static IP when i asked, so i am assuming there will be no port forwarding issues. It would be great if someone with Origin Broadband can confirm this.

My NBN was successfully transferred to Origin Broadband. Contrary to the original response from Origin's retention team, the NBN was under cg-nat without static IP. I was able to contact Origin Broadband's support and opt out of cg-nat.
I raised the complaint about the static IP, and waiting for the response from their support.

So, Origin Broadband's nbn plans are $5 more expensive than Aussie Broadband's nbn for no reason.

Anyway, monthly price is still cheaper as they offered $25 bundle discount per month.

      • Finally got an update from support. Origin Broadband advise me that the rententeam gave me an incorrect advice on the fixed IP. So i can confirm Origin Broadband's NBN does not come with fixed ip.

They acknowledged the incorrect advice and gave me the fixed IP for 6 months. Although i was given incorrect advice in the first place, i an happy with the service and the way they handled the dispute.

  • The last time I was dealing with Origin customer service for a client of mine (I was reselling NBN services), back in June, it definitely wasn’t the ABB customer service.

Customer service was of the same quality as Telstra. Perhaps the transition had not taken place yet.

Try and give a call to the customer service number and see if you are speaking to local staff.

    • I wonder if ABB is providing a more budget friendly support system for Origin customers. Same techs on the back end but maybe not the same front end for customer service. Most people just need "can you turn it off and on again?" anyway.

  • So what was your net NBN cost?

    • I am on 100/40 plan with Aussie Broadband with Bolt on, so the cost is $114 ($109 + $5). I was receiving $20 monthly discount for the last 6 months, but the promo expired last month.

After reviewing the Origins Critical Information Summary, if Origin's NBN is indeed supplied and managed by Aussie Broadband, it seems i will get the same deal $25 cheaper as Origin's cost for 100/40 plan is $114 as shown on their CIS.

  • Can confirm that Origin is with ABB :)

  • Whats the number to call Origin Retention pls

    • I got the number of their retention team from this post
      The number i used is 1800 557 700.

        thank you. Got it sorted.

  • Thank you for everyone that contributed on this post, I have just called up to join as well. But I have only been offered a total of $20 off the normal RRP..eg for the 50/20 plan, I'm only getting $64/mth, so that's different to what others are getting??

  • Anyone moved from Exetel to Origin Broadband. Is there any noticeable difference.

My Exetel 50/20 plan costing me $69.99 and i see 55/18 actual speeds.

Would that be a boost from Exetel, or the fact i have FTTP?
