Appears that Menulog has copied Uber eats in charging a Service Fee atop the Delivery fee.

Well, that worked out for AMP charging for service where there was none. (Not).

Says may apply. Not sure when it applies.

    • Seems to be applied to every place I checked.
Same as Uber Eats: 10% (min $1 - max $4)

      • It didn't apply when I tested (looking at checkout price) so I thought it may be something to get more drivers at certain times.
Will see what it is when I use a voucher I have.

        • Its there and I accidentally paid full price because its a shitty shifty app fffff

Inevitable when DoorDash and Uber already do

I'm not a fan of double charging. Charging the store then charging me as well.
Several months ago they where so proud of our low delivery fees etc.
Then today when I was checking a local stores menu (I was going there in person) told me. A delivery free of $4.99 and $6.99 + A service fee between $1.00 - $4.00 may apply. So between $5.99 and $10.99 just for something delivered.

So this is what my reply is
    Sorry to see you go.
Your Menulog account has been deleted.

Looks like the local chicken salad sandwich store will get me back. I wonder if they will recognise me? :)

also when they jack the prices up. I get why they need to do it! but I had a $6 off voucher, but was still $6 for delivery. They wanted $5.40 for a can of pepsi. Thats when I closed and uninstalled the apps. It was going to be something like 28.40 for a burger and drink delivered, with a $6 off voucher applied.

  • It defeats the purpose of free delivery now. Won't be a deal anymore unless you get a discount and free delivery.

    • There's no such thing as a free delivery

Stopped using Uber because of the service charge. I'll simply take my business elsewhere or stop using the services.

  • +4

Oh well .. we have to go back to the conventional thing and jump in the car and buy in person. Plus the food will taste more fresh.

Delivery services can continually raise their prices because they know that people will still pay it. They might lose a few customers, but their dedicated customer base will cover the costs.

A friend of mine got a McDonalds frappe delivered a few days ago. Just the frappe!. It would have been a $5-9 delivery just for a $5.50 drink.

    • +1

I'm constantly amazed hearing these examples and think to myself how could someone logically even decide to pay $15-16 for a drink delivered. Are you sure your friend don't have a voucher/discount to use?

    • Back in my day we got labelled spoilt for choosing healthy fats like avocado.

They are not a charity. They need to make money too.

    • +6

Boy, I will never understand people who defend companies' ability to screw people over. And on this site, of all places.

      • They charge a delivery fee and generally around 30-40% of the bill also.
The restaurant only collects 60-70% of the total price.

I reckon they make enough already ey?

        • The restaurants jack up prices by 25-30% so they really collect between 80 to 90% of the bill. I'm not sure when this started but back in the day Uber eats and menu prices in store were the same.

    • No one suggested they are a charity… But charging a service fee on top of a delivery fee and the fee they charge the restaurants is disgusting.

Either you work for these companies or you are an odd minority but I cant see any other consumer enjoying this extra tax

Went and looked at the Menulog website.

Had an online chat and they said the Service Fee was:
Menulog "It is an assurance that your order is will be served at the restaurants best."

    I said:
"Uh, isn't that included when I order the food?"

    Now Menulog are saying:
"Service Fee allows us to continue to invest in technology, support and other important operational elements to provide the best possible experience for everyone using Menulog"

    Sigh!

    Deliveroo or Doordash I guess?

    • +1

I've never had a Deliveroo meal delivered hot. Doordash has been much better.

    • I would argue DD is better in terms of getting your food quicker. Restaurants have a 'ready now' button for DD but not Deliveroo. Your order could be waiting for 10-20mins before someone picks it up. I've had a customer wait 2 hours before it was picked up on menulog

      • Just wanted to say that DoorDash has better driver accountability. If the driver is 10 minutes late (granted that it is their fault and their fault only, not accounting for restaurant wait time), then they will be hit with a contract violation. Too many of those and then the driver is deactivated. Another reason why DD is so good is because as soon as a driver is assigned, the customer is able to track them on the map - adding the need to be quick and to not mess about unlike Menulog and Uber.

  • I hate these services because just like with Netflix there are now 5 different places to get it, and all of them rip you off in different ways.

Delivery fee, service fee, and more expensive item prices, while it sits under heat lamp for an hour? Better off just taking a break and driving in.

  • Was going to use Ubereats a few days ago, and noticed the delivery charge was cheaper than usual, only to find their service fee. Went back to Menulog.

Found this added to their site as well today.

I should be grumpy about it, but it will stop me getting fast food as often as I was.

During a time when half the country is in lockdown and reliant on things like delivery to stay safe. Classy, Menulog.

  • Menulog peaked at 1.99 offpeak and free maccas/subway. I actually regularly used it instead of uber eats, purely based on the savings, because the delivery service itself from menulog is VERY INCONSISTENT. Tons of cancellations, huge waits. Now their prices are 6.99 if you order under 15$ - it's just too much for a subpar service. Haven't used it for weeks so they basically lost a customer.

I have uber pass which is decent but uber seems to be struggling with delivery partners atm. I'm basically limited to restaurants only in my suburb + a few others. Everything else is just "no delivery partners available"

Grim times for food delivery apps.

  • These delivery aggregators can toss off. Friggen go direct to the place and pay then the money, not some investor conglomerate that's hoping to pay themselves before liquidating the company.

  • Just placed the order on Menulog and can confirm that the service charge is applied. No good and not happy.

  • +1

The only way to avoid this with Menulog is to click on Cuisines> View More> Restaurant Delivery.

Then you see the places that do thier own delivery, and there is no service fee.

  • Yeah uninstalled the app when i saw this

  • Which one screws over restaurants and drivers the least? Apart from ordering direct where available.

    • they're all pretty much the same. I would say uber & doordash are the best in terms of getting your food asap. menulog is the worst to deal with from a restaurant perspective.

  • I can’t wait for the inevitable consolidation and the remaining players charges when already when they are in competition mode what is happening.

  • Yesterday I went to order a few burgers and chips via Menulog. Extra cost of each item plus surcharge plus delivery, $16 more than if I bought direct and picked up. Uber eats was $21. Insane

  • Didn't go through with my order $30 order due to the new service fee instead uninstalled menulog. These apps already take commissions fees, why do they need a service fee? Greedy double dipping.

Thirsty camel charges 4.99 delivery fee and 4.99 dollar service fee.

    ***k that.

  • Merged from Delivery Charges on Menulog Increasing

Went to order something on Menulog last night and saw that they are now charging a 10% "service fee" (up to a max of $4) in addition to a $2.99 delivery fee. This was for multiple places that routinely had free delivery pre lockdown. So that's effectively a $7 price hike. Sad to see Menulog go the way of ubereats with the fees, but with a lower standard of customer service.

      • Haha im only 9 days late to this party!

Snoop Dogg got billz 2 pay

    • deliveroo has free delivery for most take aways here

      • Really so the merchants haven't hike food prices to compensate hehe :)

        • some are same price just as call and collect, better to compare the prices at Google Maps and deliveroo before ordering.

Good, maybe this will be enough to make me stop ordering junk food late every night. I hate that junk food costs so much and makes you fat when you eat a lot of it. Other than those two things I love eating a lot of junk food.

  • I just Buy from instore directly,
saves so much money already, and get the order fresh, if anything wrong with order, can get resolved pretty soon, unlike menulog which either simply does a full refund (my experience couple years ago when last used it) or doesn't take any action at all telling people to call restaurants (from what i have heard from people, sometimes got customers calling in restaurant saying about delivery order platform, and frankly restaurant cant do much that time, they cannot deliver to you, they can give you something complimentary next time you order or like take your feedback or Best case give you new meal when you come Instore, other than that restaurants can literally not do much)

  • Imagine if they charged you a 'service fee' for walking into a store to order food and take away. There would be a huge backlash.

They are banking on customers being too lazy to do something about it. Vote with your feet (er..fingers).. and just don't use their services. These days its just as easy to order online from a supermarket and get it delivered free if you buy in bulk and just make the food yourself

  • We shifted to Deliveroo when they started charging service fee on top of delivery fee.

  • Menulog Have increased the Service fee now

    From $1 to $4
    Now $2 to $5
