except is fkn OR chicken..WHY CANT THEY HAVE HOTNSPICY IN MELB 24/7

        • Last time they had H&S it was barely different to OR.

          • @smartazz104: Maybe every stores ard you have crunchy OR but every stores ard me are pos soggy Or so yea. I don't mind if it wasn't spicy. I need my crunch

      • Had this recently. Was not pleased. Quality seems down a lot since last yr.

  • Do people still buy RR?? Thought ever since people woke up to the fact that it’s cheaper to buy supermarket chooks would be the beginning of the end…

    • Free delivery

    • +12

Most meals are cheaper to buy at a supermarket.

    • +4

I tried 2 weeks ago and it was very nice actually. I love chicken treat, KFC is alright, RR is a nice mix of those two

    • +5

RR now sell crispy fried chicken like KFC and since we tried it, we loved it and never goes back to KFC anymore. You should give their crispy chicken a try

      • +1

        Will give it a shot!

        • I tried RR CFC, and it was incredibly salty! Could be my RR branch as it’s not incredibly popular I think.
However, it was crunchy, so there’s that. And good sized pieces.
Good KFC beats this, though Hot and Spicy KFC is better, and I have a Hot Star chicken nearby which is my favourite

      • Also rate their crispy pieces well. Was better when they were $2/piece upon launch haha

        • +1

Last time I checked, you can still get $2 per piece? But max 2 per order only…

    • +1

Yes the supermarket chooks are great value for money, however it lacks flavour~~

Nandos, oportos sell full size chicken for around $25 compared to supermarket chooks $8

      • yep nandos is so much more tasty. The supermarket ones are dry and boring.

        • But such great value, when they are half price.

    • +1

I also really liked the RR fried chicken (similar to KFC Hot and Spicy's crunchiness, without spice) and overall would prefer it by far over KFC. Some people compare it to Jollibees, not sure how accurate that is though

  • How does this compare to kfc, taste wise, not value wise?

    • +20

The chicken is more moist and crunchier, not as oily. It doesn't have that amazing 11 herbs and spices taste to it but it's pretty damn good

      • +1

Red Rooster should have made their spicy!
Its similar to KFC hot and spicy but without the spicy

        • I always buy the reaper sauce. Nice kick to it. They also had the szechuan wings which were meant to be like Korean fried chicken but the marinade was too peppery.

    • +5

Agree with Raebro, im a big KFC fan, that was until I tried red rooster fried chicken. The skin is always crispy, somehow never oily, and the chicken seemed better quality. Was never a big fan of red rooster but thats slowly changing

      • Indeed, there is no bad after taste, like KFC

Finally RR is inventing something that is competing KFC

        • -1

RR has been doing well for a few years now actually. I think a high up exec moved over from McDonald's, and it shows.

More info here. Sad that people still bash RR when it's actually been improving since 2016 (from my experience). Nothing is more frustrating than someone working hard and others completely disregarding their effort through ignorance.

          • @Ghost47: They need to change their marketing strategy then, as people still has bad impression about their products, something like free 5 chicken for ozb members :)

            • @BigLeviathan: They've changed their marketing strategy quite a lot actually. For example they've rebranded, updated their stores, introduced the fried chicken, introduced the Hellfire burger range, introduced home delivery.

A marketing strategy can only be observed if one chooses to observe it. I would say the people who keep bashing RR haven't actually paid any attention to what they've been doing the past 5 years, not RR's fault at all.

Free chickens would be nice though!

    • Always found it to be freshly cooked and crunchy. Pretty good.

    • i find it better. KFC has its taste in the batter while the RR one has it inside the chicken meat like their roast chooks with a crunchy batter. the RR one tastes more salty because of it.

  • -5

god red rooster is so shit, so expensive and not half as good as KFC.

    • -1

It really is. No idea how they survive. Last time I went there I had the parma burger and it was just terrible.

      • +1

It's a front. Thought this was common knowledge.

    • -1

Every time I give them another chance, it's just as rubbish as last time

    • +1

I haven't tried their newish fried chicken yet, and plan to, but holy crap some of their standard offerings were just laughable. The last time I went it was a $5 chicken and bacon burger that was presented as this pitiful microwaved "bun" that had a few wretched scraps of shredded chook sparsely sprinkled, along with a couple of oblong discs of what looked to be the shit*est-tier supermarket deli-ham larping as the bacon

It was just astonishing. Years later I still haven't bothered ever going back.

  • +27

I assume the people complaining have never actually tried Red Roosters Crunchy Fried Chicken…

    • -6

actually I have, it's "ok", its just a crunchy coating, there's no actual flavour to it. KFC's coating is much better.

      • +4

I personally love it, and I love the fact there’s another mainstream fried chicken joint.

The flavor is mainly “salty” which would be boring to some people I guess. KFC’s skin is usually just soggy.

      • Try Chicken Treats (if you have one near you) Crunchified chicken. I rate them over KFC a lot.

    • +3

Yup. Always buy RR fried chicken over KFC now.

    • it's decent at best. better than KFC but that's a low threshold. many of local chicken joints serve way better fried chicken than this. If you happen to be from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne try Westall Charcoal Chicken, Winner Chicken, Gym Chicken and Korean Chicken @ Springvale. 10x better

Winner Chicken especially is GOAT. they deep fry the entire spatchcocked chicken. so juicy and tender.

  • +6

Look, I know I'm a pig, but 3 pieces of chicken is not much of a filling dinner tbh.

    • +1

In what world do you and your missus share 3 each lol
      Here it's always 4 and 2.
If it's for 2 mates, dont expect to be full for $20 with chips and soda

  • -1

Are $2 large chips still on at KFC. When does it finish.

  • -1

Bring back the “Half price Monday-Tuesday Chicken and Chips”, though maybe that was Big Rooster.

  • +3

Their fried chicken is pretty good, better than greasy KFC.

  • -1

    Is this only for today?

    • +1

No idea. T&Cs didn’t mention an expiry date.
Could be ongoing but just on Fridays.

  • +1

me and my mrs love the RR fried chicken. taste not as salty as KFC, and we feel like less oil… can feel the healthy. Always bought it when it is $2 a piece, now i think they increase it.

    2 pcs for $5

but i know some may not have the same opinion with mine.

    • -3

I found it bit saltier than kfc but you definitely can taste the spice and herbs more than kfc.

      • -2

It was crazy salty, but I’ve generally reduced salt in my diet so maybe it was just more noticeable. Cooked well, chicken actually tender and not dry, but needs more than 0 herbs and 1 spice.

        • I think it depends on the specific batch that's been cooked. I think the stores are supposed to brine the chicken for 12 hours (from what I saw on their website or something anyway) but it can be hit and miss. I've had some batches that were really salty and some that weren't as salty.

  • +3

    Better than KFC

  • +1

    Does it end tonight

    • +3

      We’ll find out tomorrow…

  • +2

RR is definitely my go-to for fried chicken nowadays, juicy chicken and crispy coat.
Better than KFC original recipe but it still loses out to KFC Hot & Spicy which unfortunately is limited edition in my area.

  • -1

    just had it (profanity) shit

    • -1

      what was wrong with it?

      • +2

bland and too salty. mashed taters was the worst.

        • …doesn't even come with mashed taters yo!

          • -1

@9hundred: yea because red rooster only sell this "Fried Day Chicken Dinner for 2" right?

  • +1

Is it me or does Red Rooters have the worse value for money on their menu

    • What, the $43 for an 18 piece bucket on their website doesn't strike you as incredible value?…..

  • +2

    Not expired

  • Sorry! We are currently unable to deliver to your address.

    DOH!

  • Not expired, but my garbage local at Blacktown isn't doing fried chicken, just has the boring Christmas in July ads in-app. Platinum loyalty dollars going to good use as always… 💤

  • Can we still use this code?

  • +3

Some ding dong expired this deal and it still works. I’ve unexpired it. Enjoy!

    • Is this deal only available on Fridays? All other days it won't work?

  • +1
