2560x1080x60fps

Not sure if this is actually a good deal so I'm throwing it into the arena to see what happens. It's not on sale but still $10 to $20 cheaper than anything else 10 seconds of googling found…

    Standard price.
    Centrecom $299
    Umart $298

    • Is OzRRP allowed here if its not GPus?

  • +7

Whether it's standard price or not it seems like a lot of monitor for the money. Plus it's under the magic $300 threshold for tax deducting in a single year.

    • under the magic $300 threshold for tax deducting in a single year.

No magic. It just means waiting an extra year to get your 30c in the dollar.

a lot of monitor for the money

I considered that. But it isn't more than 2x 1080p side by side horizontally.

      • +2

if it's over $300, u got to depreciate over 4 years. So you're waiting a long time

        • +1

Or you could live with an inferior experience for 4 years.

          • -2

@netjock: FYI - the assumptions on depreciation and write offs are all wrong. The ATO allows full expensing of business assets through until June 2022, regardless of value.

            • +2

@Gavinm: But you know we're all running businesses. Why are we not just posting HiLux and Ranger deals when it is instant asset write off.

Btw it isn't a write off. The ATO would like you to think that. You wouldn't put down those assets as worth $0. It is just for ATO tax assessment it is considered full deducted therefore $0 value.

I guess we're going into the "it is a deal because you can get a tax deduction" if you get sold a lemon for $1 and told ATO will let you not pay your marginal tax rate on it, it is also a deal.

            • +1

@Gavinm: Really? For non-business owners? You'll probably find that for the majority of people interested in this monitor, are buying it as a consumer who is currently working from home and therefore bound by consumer rather than business tax laws.

            • @Gavinm: Not for PAYG employees though. Which would be most people here.

            • @Gavinm: For individual you also have to apportion it…

            • @Gavinm: that's reckless to provide this "tax advice". I hope you're not a CPA or CA

      • +1

        It's actually 1.33x 1080p's side by side (2560/1920)

        • 1920 x 1080p LG IPS is only $148. So I guess this monitor isn't 2x FHD. So why paying twice the price?

        • I think netjock is thinking of super ultrawide (32:9)

    • You get what you pay for.

  • +4

Would only get this if you really need ultrawide (in saying that, these dimensions will look small compared to standard 27" monitors) - 2K/4K Dell monitors will be much nicer around this price

    • Got any particular recommendations?

      • +1

Any of the Dell deals - S2721QS/S2721DS for 2K/4K
        S2721DGF for gaming

        • Can vouch for the S2721DS. Excellent monitor picked up for $250 on sale last May. Not sure it is close to that price now though.

        • Damn can't find these at sub par $250 mark. Is the Samsung G5 comparable? I saw it on Centrecom for $300. Soz. Monitor noob.

      • I just got 3 of the 4K UHD Monitor - S2721Q and they are very good. I've had them about a week so far.

Aldi currently selling these for $249. I saw 5 of them at Aldi Wolli Creek store on Thursday 12th.

    • +7

The real OZbargain is in the comments

    • Not rare either, my local Aldi had them last month for $249 and i saw a few when i went shopping last night.

Feels like these LG Ultrawide's have been around forever, there is always a deal somewhere.

  • +1

is ppi same as 24 inch 1080 monitor? i can hardly bear any ppi lower than that

  • +2

I have an older version that's 75Hz and love it

    • Also have a 75Hz version and I use it for work. Does the job nicely!

  • +1

250 nits. Some HDR that is 🙄

    • +3

Its a 300 bux monitor.. what would you expect?

  • +1

I have this model and paid $349 for it, I think earlier this year. Great for work and gaming, (I don't game over 75fps). Bright enough, i only set mine at 24-30 / 100 .

Black levels are terrible on this always looking a bit white and hazy. At this price and if you need/want ultrawide it is good.

  • Kogan had 239.98(included delivery) before. use monitor arm instead for the stock stand.

  • They had this in Amazon for 249 during the Prime Day sales. (Grabbed one as a spare work monitor).

  • Good for Office type work Excel etc???

    • Might be a better option due to the wider aspect ratio for things like Excel. Although reading documents/webpages in portrait would be worse off than a 27”.

      • I don't know if it is worse off. the extra width means I often can fit 2 pages side by side, inc PDFs etc.

  • is this good enough for Photoshop use (graphic design)?

    • +2

      Not for professional use.
For the odd school assignment or family birthday card I'm sure its fine.

    • +1

it's good enough for ms paint hahahaha

  • +1

Thanks OP, Grabbed one for my partner as she had put off buying one for WFH but since we are now in extended in lockdown, she doesnt want to be hunched over her laptop anymore.

  • Good price, but not many pixels.

    • Plenty good, same real estate as a 24".

  • +1

What I need is a pricing error (which is still honoured) on the Sammy 49" ultrawide, please - around the same price as this :)

    • +6

What I need is to win the lotto

  • +2

I have the older version, size and resolution are perfect for productivity working from home. I've never wished for a bigger/better monitor, especially for this price

    • The stand that comes in the package is rubbish - better to purchase a monitor arm.

Otherwise its does the job ok, I would probably get a 4k 27” instead if I were to get a new screen with similar budget.

      • +3

I use this mainly for work, so I can have two Word documents open at once, and still read both quite comfortably, something a 27" standard width screen struggled with for me. I also had a 32" and I still prefer this one for work. The stand never wobbles for me, but my desk is quite solid also I guess.

  • The pizza is more expensive if you order for delivery, even if you order 3, and the minimum spend is $21.9. It dodgy how the prices jump around, the prices are not fixed, or even lisited.

    • +4

      Wot?

      • +6

hahaha ordering pizza and posted on the wrong thread hahaha

  • Can the desktop be arranged similar to having dual monitor setup? I teach remotely and having dual monitor has been useful as I can share 1 entire monitor (for powerpoint, word, pdf) while having the other one to change slides and check the live chat.

    • From memory, I believe so but it is software controlled rather than using two inputs.

  • Thought I'd add my two cents for anyone interested - I've been using the 75 Hz one for about 2 years, happy to report that it's been a solid workhorse for watching media, photo/video editing, uni assignments, and very casual gaming.

Changed my life when using spreadsheets and project management tools (Notion/Trello). Only complaint would be sometimes I feel it could use a little bit more resolution (though only started noticing after I got a 27" 1440p secondary screen)

  • after a 32"
    ips

seems only affordable ones are QHD
    any deals/recomendations atm?

4k would mean VA panels -and not sure it'll be usable on a 32/as would be moving head/eyes…

  • 29" and 1080p? This is the worst deal. Not to mention its selling for a similar price on several websites.

  • Glad you put 10 whole seconds of googling into your research…
