  • just right time to join nrma to have the car battery replaced.
    thanks.

    • do they have bargains on batteries?

  • I used to use them in NSW when I lived there, is there much of a presence in QLD?

    • Each state has its own motorists association offering road services in only that state and in Queensland it's the RACQ. The associations offer complimentary service to members of other associations travelling interstate. Not to be confused with insurance services from the associations which are sold cross border, ie. you can take out NRMA car insurance in Queensland….in fact given that they guarantee to beat any other quote by 10% its probably a good idea (no, I don't represent the NRMA and I don't have their car insurance)

    Thanks.
They gave me the option of $99.00 for 1 year with no joining fee over the phone, so I took that offer up instead.

    • Thank you Bargainaholic… called the number and got 1 year for $99 as well!

    • you can do this today? on sunday?

    • Do you need to say you were at the motorfest ? Can they check if you were at the motorfest (did you sign up or give details at the motorfest?).

  • Wish RACQ had an offer like this :(

    • RACV might be nice too.

  • Can residents of Qld join nrma, then if we breakdown racq get sent anyway? Or is this only for NSW residents?

  • Ok i'm a member of NRMA and i live in QLD ;)

Funny when you ring for road service (RACQ) they must have to check with someone from NRMA cause they can't tell if i'm a current member on their computer in QLD.

(most of my long distance trips transverse NSW plus they gave me a good price on insurance NRMA (by doing the beat by 10 % bizo.) Y.M.M.V

  • If I'm not an RACQ member, can I ring up and join on the spot if I need service?

    • yep but they hit you up for joining fee etc so its very expensive all in one hit -otherwise we would all go that way when we happened to breakdown…
      (check their website)

  • did a bit of reading into this, the Classic Care NRMA option that this deal is for, would be no good to anyone interstate, e.g. qld. The package only allows for 20km free towing in Wollongong/Newcastle/Syd/Blue Mts/ACT.

The Classic Care via NRMA is normally $99 p/year, with the $55 joinng fee being waived for this deal. RACQ membership in QLD for a similar service (Roadside option) is $78 per year, plus $33 join fee (possible to get it waived). Roughly the same.

  • Looking at the NRMA website the join fee is $55. It's $99 for the 12 month membership. Isn't the saving only $55?

    • Yes… joining fee is waived.
When I called, I was given the option of either Classic Care or Premium Care… based on how far you usually drive.
If you drive interstate a lot, then you need Premium Care if you break down outside of NSW.

  • RACV's basic roadside assistance is only $89 for a year

  • i live in WA, so this isn't for me then?

    • I'm with NRMA on there basic package and live in WA.

I have just recieved the renewal notice to pay $260 for 3 years.

Whenever there has been car issues I just call the NRMA 13 number give them the details and then they contact RAC to come out.

I used NRMA as they used to have much better towing policies and other benefits than the RAC basic package. Having a quick look today, it does not seem so much different anymore. The better benefits have been moved out to the more expensive packages.

Guys. call me paranoid. But this information is IMPORTANT. Please read it and make your decision.
As a Uni student studying IT, I'm a little sensitive to security.

as you can see, the web address provided in this post is not original NRMA address.

    it's mynrma.com.au instead of NRMA.com.au.

now if someone, spam this e-mail to a million mailboxes. some of them will reply with their personal information.

they call you back, then my guess is they will ask for your credit card number.

I'm not trying to bad name this website as I read it everyday.
But then i did go through the trouble to register and leave this message.

If you visit MYNRMA.COM.AU, everything looks normal, but it is different to NRMA.COM.AU.

why bother having two different homepages?

My suggestion is to inquire with NRMA first if you are interested.

This is a common hacking strategy called Phishing, wikipedia it if you want to.

I apologize in advance to the poster if I made a mistake, I mean no harm.

excuse me if i made grammar mistakes, second language.

    • +2

this is what your uni teacher taught you? which uni is it? i will make sure my kids in the future will not goto that one. do your research thoroughly first!

        • i apologize if i made you feel offended. If you make comment, you will always get good response and bad response. You were trying to help people by telling ppl the possibility of scam, and ppl were trying to help you also in different ways. i was sincerely wanted to assist you to understand the importance to reading thru before making comments, as well as the structure, which i believe would be benefit for you.

BTW, english is really my second, actually third language (which im sure it is quite obvious in my writing). i wasn't teasing u, but myself as i'm used to/ok with ppl tease my 'engrish' and quite often i even make fun of myself to make them laugh

    • Agree with alwayseric- Do some research first PLEASE….so so wrong

    • +1

Good intentions but your research is not thorough enough so I have to fail you on this "assignment". If you go to www.nrma.com.au, you will see on the right hand side that they have set up mynrma.com.au to handle membership.

Son, I am disappoint. :) You have the rest of the term to make up for this fail.

(Although one could question why they didn't set up my.nrma.com.au.)

      • i personally think having another site (mynrma) is more proper than having a subsite (my.nrma) in this case, because they seems to be selling completely different thing or even a different companies under different abn. i think nrmaInsurance.com.au and nrmaMotor.com.au would be more proper but these URL are just too long to type.
(this is just an opinion/discussion, not trying to argue or upset anyone again)

  • "why bother having two different homepages?" <- The answer can be found from the website's logo. nrma.com.au is for NRMA insurance, mynrma is for NRMA motoring + service. The NRMA website actually have a link to mynrma, it is on the top right hand corner. It is good to be security sensitive for websites, but doing your research thoroughly is also important. If not, as at least briefly go thru the 'genuine' (NRMA) website. Moreover, your post/comment structure also needs to be improve. you started with the comment about the NRMA website, and then complaint the difficulty of registration of ozbargain website (i.e. I'm not trying to bad name of 'this' website…), and then suddenly jump back to the nrma website would confuse the reader. It is better to finish one thing first before starting the other. Otherwise, at least specify 'ozbargain' instead of just use the word 'this' because not all reader would know what 'this' refer to.
Pls forgive my 'engrish', second language also.

  • @snappy1234 and alwayseric;

Why shoot down this guy for trying to give everyone a heads up? We've all seen these scams before and when I first read the email in the deal my reaction was SCAM!

Turned out he was wrong, but we've all been wrong before. Is it really necessary to berate him like a moron?

Take a deep breath boys…he's only trying to help.

    • thanks mate.

      I was shocked.

The .com.au domains are well policed anyway and it's very unlikely that a dodgy domain will slip past the registrars. .com however is a jungle.

If you really want to make a difference, write to NRMA and suggest they do one or more of the following:

        1. Use my.nrma.com.au instead.
        2. Set the website to use https throughout so that visitors will see the certificate owner in the location bar.

The NRMA homepage is a bit messy due to the split-off of the insurance business. They have a home page which asks you if you are looking for road service or insurance.

        • Hey,

          Just a little insight in this matter;

nrma.com.au is owned by NRMA Insurance ( operated by IAG).
mynrma.com.au is owned by NRMA Motoring & Services (a mutual organisation who provides roadside assistance along with other services for its members).

They are completely separate companies that share the NRMA brand after demutualisation in 2000.

Hope this clears things up a little,

          Cheers,

          Marc

    Hi again guys,

Hey Luyin - thanks very much for your efforts at:

    1. Analysing the offer.

    2. Offering your analysis to everyone.

    3. Allowing users the opportunity to carefully scrutinise and consider the offer.

    4. Realising that perhaps your analysis was a little off-the-mark. And that's okay - the most important thing is that you made an effort to contribute a point of view - and you should never be criticised for that.

(I may agree/disagree with a point of view from anyone - but I'll always welcome and defend their right to express it.)

You were also man enough to share a totally understandable error and thats great.

I love the fact that Ozbargain empowers everyone to analyse every offer and share their views and allow each user to come to their own decision.

The more views the better. So everyone please keep them coming.

And just to clarify - I know the original post is a genuine offer from NRMA because:

    1. I attended the NRMA Motorfest and entered an NRMA competition - that's how they got my email address.

    2. They emailed me the offer - complete with NRMA graphic design - and detailed contact information.

    3. Anyone with any concerns can call the NRMA directly - on the phone number at the top - mention the offer - and either take it up or reject it.

Very pleased that several forum members have taken up the offer.

And please everyone - keep up all the views and analysis.

But there's never any need to make any personal remark about anyone.

Please play the ball not the man :-)

Thanks for all the bargains - and I'll keep posting them as I find them.

  • Thanks Hello007, it's a good time for me.
