I use this conditioner and my partner sent me this: https://www.webmd.com/beauty/news/20210719/johnson-johnson_s…

In a nutshell, it has DMDM hydantoin which releases formaldehyde (known to be an issue). J&J removed it from their products before 2015 but this was made by another company (which they purchased) and the change didn’t apply to OGX.

details only started being published a month ago, we won’t know more for ages.

I was just going to post this!

I was about to post this too!
I stopped using a month ago and noticed I've got less hair falling out now

I tried these OGX shampoo and conditioner too and thought I seemed to be loosing more hair and getting thinner.. good to know.. will throw them out. Overpriced chemical rubbish.

      • This whole time I thought there was something wrong with me. Now I can blame the shampoo.

    • Thank you. I've cancelled my order

    • Also from the same website: https://www.webmd.com/beauty/dmdm-hydantoin-what-to-know

While formaldehyde-releasing ingredients can be dangerous in high levels, these chemicals are found naturally in safe, small amounts in many foods. They include:

      • Bananas
      • Apples
      • Plums
      • Grapes
      • Onions
      • Carrots
      • Spinach
      • Seafood
      • Beef
      • Poultry

Many experts believe this chemical is safe in cosmetic and hygiene items, since they release only small amounts of formaldehyde in normal use. When you shampoo your hair, for example, the level of formaldehyde that's released is about equal to the amount found naturally in a medium-sized pear or apple. But others suggest that formaldehyde exposure from DMDM hydantoin could have some risks. These might include…

So there are experts that say it's safe in small amounts while others disagree.
You should avoid products with DMDM hydantoin if you know you’re allergic to formaldehyde.

    Any suggestions on alternative shampoo/conditioners?

  • Purchased the 750ml bottle at Chemist Warehouse 3 months ago, still has 80% left.

    Can I get a refund/compensation?

  • Pretty sure ALDI version is $5 and just as good even the same shape bottle !

  • thanks
    cancelled my order

  • Its also in the bargain bins at Aldi atm. They're liquidating stock after the class action made it into news reports in July.

    • I thought that was more because it was a special buy recently. Don't they also do clearance on these after a while?

About 2 years ago I stopped using this product after 10+ years of use. My hair was fine and my scalp was irritated/inflamed MOST of the time. I went to the doctor about it for some time and thought I was losing my hair and thinning because of lifestyle and genetics. 2 years ago I read an article on news.com.au about a shampoo called GrowMe and I changed to that. People say my hair is longer now, but I mainly notice I see my scalp less through the hair. It isn't a miracle shampoo but I feel bummed that I spent the extra $ to hurt my hair health.

My wife uses the Biotin and Collagen one: https://www.ogxbeauty.com/shop/extra-strength-biotin-collage…

    Ingredients are listed as:

I dont see a mention of DMDM hydantoin in it. Could it be sneakily listed under any other name?

There's 2 version of this shampoo and condition, one is the Biotin and Collagen one that you've linked to and does list DMDM Hydantoin as an ingredient on their website. We have the 88.7ml travel size bottles of this one at home as well, and I found that it did not list DMDM Hydantoin as an ingredient on the shampoo and conditioner.

The one that I linked to is the Extra Strength Biotin and Collagen shampoo and conditioner, also doesn't list DMD Hydantoin as an ingredient, which is why I was curious as to whether this ingredient goes by any other name.

    • Same, I have the Argan Oil one and it doesn't have DMD Hydantoin on the ingredients list
